Random question about your button mashing.

I never even noticed I do this until a friend was watching me play. He asked what exactly am I mashing if my character is methodically casting. (as in, the mashing doesn't coincide with what my character is doing). And it got me thinking. Does anyone else keep hitting the action they want as the visual timer counts down to usable again? (the little second 'clock' that spins around the icon)

I even went and watched a Mr. Happy video and saw that he does it too. An action will be down and he will hit-hit-hit-hit-hit-ACTION. I asked a friend and they said they don't button mash but see the cue for usable action on hot bar and will hit it, like those timed dance games Parapa the Rappa or Bust A Groove and time it like a song rhythmically. Apparently i'm a button masher until skill is available. Anyone else?

I'm not, I'm a double tap kind of guy. I'll press the skill about 0.5 seconds before it's back up, just to queue it up, then will press it again when it comes off CD. Really, the second tap isn't necessary so long as the ability queuing works, but it doesn't always work so I've kind of just gotten used to double tapping to ensure I get the optimal timing of the queued skill while alleviating any queue issues with a timed press anyway.

I know a fair few people are button mashers though.

Heck, I used to raid with this guy who'd be playing the simplest class in the game that would spam literally 1 button for 90% of the optimal rotation and it was hilarious whenever he'd talk on Vent, since you'd just hear him tap-tap-tap-tap-tap-tapping away in the background.

Also, when you'd see him stop casting his spell during a raid and then he'd yell in vent "GUYS, MY NUMBER 2 KEY IS BROKEN!" xD

Overall i press on the timer, or a split second before, because of rotations and timers i'll push regen a little earlier, and Aero the same since they are instant cast.

I mainly reserve mashing for the "oh Crap" moments, like when a DPS eats a tank buster and walks away with 5 HP or when a tank pulls 12 too many monsters when all of their cooldowns are gone...

I sometimes mash, it's usually that I see something I need right now is coming out of CD in second, and I need to also be doing something else that takes heavy attention, so I smash the one thing I know I need while looking where I'm running, for example. If I don't need to multitask such way I usually press the button right before for the queuing in pretty fluent rhythm.

I always mash up until the gcd is almost over then I mash the next skill I want to queue. For healing, vbecause I use macros I just mash as much as possible to get the skill off as soon as possible after the gcd.

I always mash my hard Astro dmg combo when there is no healing and card. Or the holy button in dungeons or stone 4 so my voice partners can hear it.

I start mashing a tad bit before the skill can be clicked again usually, or shortly before a cast goes through. I feel like this helps with actually getting that skill through some times. But I'm not button mashing constantly.

The worse latency is, the more I mash.

All my skills are macro'd so I don't see the timer unfortunately, I just mash until it does the actions.

i never really mash except for when im playing mch, that or in panic lightspeed healing

like how others have said, mash it around the time it ready or just after it goes through....just to make sure.

I have high packet loss, so I'll just sort of repeatedly twitch the key with some 5-10 presses over the last .6 seconds or so. I used to just double-tap, but even that let some losses through.

I don't really see myself doing this in instances. Maybe a little bit as a monk, but only due to the entire hotbar going on that minor cd between weaponskills, but as a primary scholar, not really.

If you were to ask me on other games, especially games like XV2, then yes...yes a ton...

I mash only so I can get the skill out on frame 1, plus it gives me something to do.

In HW, I used to play on a PS3, running on wifi, 2 rooms and a bathroom away from my router that was outdated and could only handle 50/5mbps.

I've mashed my buttons due to horrible latency for so long it's just a habit now.

Sometimes i panic if the tank starts melting faster then i can heal, so i slam on that essential dignity while GC is up.
