I think this means BLU Chocobo exp will still be nerfed a bit, but I seriously wasn't expecting them to increase the chocobo exp across the board. This was a wise decision because now the birds will actually be useful to a lot more people and won't be quite as grueling to level up. Plus, less people who don't care for BLU unlocking it just for that.

That's actually pretty nice of them to do. I like this QoL quite a bit. Was a surprise, but nice nonetheless. Good catch (I usually don't pay attention to hotfix notes, so this would've been missed).

The bird experience was nerfed a lot. Before the patch a lvl 30 BLU killing a level 36 mob saw the bird get about 7-8k xp. After the patch that same level 30ish BLU sees the bird get 675 xp. Switch to a lvl 70 and go kill a mob in the Lochs and the bird gets about 2k xp. So while the max level experience is better than it was before the patch the birds are back to being a slow grind.

I still say the bird experience should not have been nerfed. Instead the rate of getting onions should have been buffed with additional sources added.

Sounds like they’ve nerfed it so it’s back to being almost pointless to try to level by killing mobs in the world. Onions are really expensive for me anyway, and I don’t have a house, but I’m glad I got my bird to level 10 at least before the nerf.

Glad I busted my butt and got my chocobo to 20 before the nerf. Went up 6 levels in just a few days.

I think onions should be able to be bought with GC seals... since that's where you get your chocobo from.

I'd be ok even with the seeds being buyable from there, or with FC seals. Anything that's not... this monstrosity.

I'm glad I took advantage of this on my alt character and leveled her bird a bit. I'm not in a hurry to get that one to 10+, but it's still a nice gain, one I'm grateful so many of you were able to experience in a short time. It's such a shame that the BLU buff went the way of Foe Requiem damage buffs - from a high amount for a limited factor for people, to barely anything spread across everyone (my Bard used to loved pairing up with casters).

It's too bad that SE saw the activity level of birds leveling and Onions being bought/used, and freaked out, needing to "fix" this thing ten days after BLU release. Now less people will be bothering with their birds again, and, meanwhile, there are more pressing issues not being addressed.

Before BLU came out, we were organizing runs of the Dataqi Chronicles specifically to help players level their chocobos. I had been getting a total of 60-100k on my alt's chocobo doing the last 10 FATEs depending on how many players showed up.

It will be interesting to see how much it will be worth now. Sounds like for non-BLU jobs, they roughly tripled the XP so it could be pretty substantial.

As for the Thavnairian Onions, dropping the grow time from 10 to 7 days would be a big help if they don't want to increase the chance of getting the onions seeds over a different seed when we intercross.

Wow, so my motivation to bother summoning the bird just went out the window. Now back to reaching level cap on countless classes long before it ever will.

The "buff" to exp gain while on other classes is a joke as it's basically like having the bird get armory bonus + rested exp + a bit more.

Meanwhile BLU has gone from "bird trainer" back to searching for the meaning of life.

It's like SE doesn't want us to find anything enjoyable with this game. It's probably just going to make it that much harder for my wife to convince me to renew my sub the next time as I was fairly content after it ran out the last time to just leave it be.

I don't get why chocobo leveling has to be so much slower. Even after leveling several jobs and having it gain most its levels via stables it took 2 years with the inclusion of the BLU experience point bonus to get my bird to level 20. Why nerf the experience gain back to useless again? It's a boring grind that takes way too long.

I tested the experience difference at level 70 using the cave in the north area of the lochs. Before as a level 70 killing mobs in there, i would get somewhere around 984 experience, 1100~ish with curiel root while it was my chocobo's favorite food. This was before BLU mage came out. After SE nerfed experience rates back down, my chocobo gets a little over 2600 exp per kill and a little over 3000 with curiel root. So it's a about 3 times as much exp at before BLU at least. That's a pretty huge difference in the long run.
