Finished getting Lv.50 blue mage? Want more? http://archive.fo/L2RJv https://ffxiclopedia.fandom.com/wiki/Blue_Mage https://www.bg-wiki.com/bg/Blue_Mage
Yes, stopped playing with it (lvl 12) when i realized its all about mob grinding for levels.
I hit 50, got my gear and will wait and see what they decide to do with it. Spell grinding is kind of awful.
Wonder why they did away the passive buffs from spells. I realize that it sometimes created situations where a skill was picked just for it's bonus but like, right now I have spells picked just because.. because lol.
Beyond that I think it could be part of perhaps an idea Reynhart suggested where abilities become our "ilvl", our staff does nothing already anyways lol. Gearing up via abilities making us more powerful sounds a bit more fun at least XD.
I particularly liked playing blue mage as main in XI, part of why I had really wanted to main it here. Found SMN pretty neat too, well at least much later in FFXI's life span lol, but I only watched my friend play that (SMN takes a bit of prep work with all the avatars, like blue mage getting abilities).
Easiest thing I'd say here is to grab a copy of XI and get yourself a Blue Mage there for your fix.
The Ultimate Edition even gives you 30 days of subscription.
Yes, already deleted it
Playing both FFXI and FFXIV as Blue Mage atm and loving it.
FFXIV's lackluster Blue Mage has definitely made me consider going back and playing more of FFXI's Blue Mage.
I was just looking to see what gear I had for my BLU the other day but my FFXI inventory is a mess. Or like, 8 messes.
No not done and having a good time with it. Got to 50 with a friend leveling normally and have 26 spells. Going to take my time and get the others and will eventually do Carnival.
Yes i hit lv10 and my friend told me about the amazing endgame content for blu and how he grind Shiva and Titan all day and still didnt get their spells yet.
so YES i think i FINISHED blu :) my sub also finish in 6 days, ty SE
Once I get blue to 50 I'm done. I'm not gonna bother with any other spells since it's obvious that this was another attempt to recreate ffxi in ffxiv when no one asked for it. If 11 is such an asset to SE then just allocate resources to either update or reboot 11 proper. Stop wasting our time with mechanics that don't belong in 12.
I gave Eureka a chance. I wanted to like it but I honestly hate it. Krile and the relic are literally the only reason's I even tolerate doing it.
Blue has become more of the same sadly. Non stop Acorn Bomb and 1k Needles. "enjoy the world we've built" yeah sure because preventing things like side quests from giving good exp is totally a way to let players immerse themselves in the game. I wanted to believe that blue had potential but having done some extensive grinding with little to no reward I have to say that both Blue and Eureka have been extensive wastes of resources that could and should have allocated towards main content like dungeon's and ult content.
Heck SE could have taken all the funds from Eureka and actually made Blue a real dps class that was centered around getting it's bread and butter spells from unique and powerful monsters like how summoner was with it's egi.
EDIT: after writing this I realized blue's story isn't even worth the trouble. I won't spoil it for anyone but let it be said that I have some very strong issues with how the story is being told.
Not even close to being done yet and still having fun with it. My friends and I got to around level 30 between us all and got all the open world spells unlocked. Were not pushing it and the rest will come in time but were still enjoying it.
I'm not :P
I just need Leviathan, Ramuh and Titan to finish my spells, but spent hours doing the last 2 and nothing happened. Finished the Carnivale as well. I didn't wanted to make any opinion until I actually played the class, but after all that and the "solo-non-solo" content, I'm done with this trash. Will get those spells when they fix the drop rate. I ain't throwing more time to the trash can for it.
I'm finished leveling it, for now, I've yet to start grabbing skills for the job on either of my characters, and I'm waiting for there to be a point to the solo content portion aside from Allied Seals, for which I see no use, personally. Well, I mean outside of what I earn from weekly hunts already, because of aetheryte tickets (and a sliver of bonus gil). It doesn't help that I'm not subbed right now, but that's an aside to the little use or legitimate fun I'm having with the job. When I come back I don't see myself hurrying to put any work into BLU, "Skinner Box" the class or no.
Leveled my chocobo up to rank 20 and quit playing it over the weekend. Don't plan on playing it any further unless they lock a mount I want behind it or something in the future.
Let's see...
Lv.50
130 Geared
49/49 Spells
25/25 Masked Carnival
3/3 special Carnival completion condition achievements.
Yep. Definitely done. My Blue Mage is shelved until it gets updated again. It's not even worth taking for Wonder Tails content compared to one of my 70's, so, yeah. That was my minimum expectation for how powerful Blue Mage should be at Level 50. Comparable to a Lv.70 unsynced in Lv.50 content. At the very least making it worth taking into WT's in the PF.
I got BLu to 50, completed the Masked Carnivale, got 2/3 achievements (missing Perfect Blue - auto attack keeps preventing me =_=), and missing 4 spells (Mountain Buster, Veil, Look and Snort).
Husband is under the impression that BLU is being unfairly compared to higher level jobs at higher levels/ilevels and not compared to them when they were level 50. Especially with how incomplete BLU feels. He says there's no reason to make the class be able to one shot the bosses or dungeons - what would the class bring then? It'd be no different than the other jobs currently sitting at 70 (to which I conceded his point). The Japanese players are definitely being more 'fair' from what we've read.
To me, I feel I was mislead ('designed for solo content' I did not take to mean level only through open world and only for Masked Carnivale) and could at least do level 50 dungeons solo (maybe not primals). Or at least a whole party of BLU could do primals and dungeons, but even that is not possible.
Not done and probably won't be for the foreseeable future. But it's not because of how much fun I'm having, but because the fc and I refuse to spend hours on end in there for the Primal skills. Gave Shiva a go one time, 10 runs. Nothing. Came back tomorrow, we were out in two runs.
It's rng without failsafe; we refuse to burnout over it.
Not only is it possible but people on Aether have been doing it. Hells they've even been doing all BLU runs of the ARR 24 man raids. Last I saw they had already taken on LotA and ST while now working on getting a WoD going.
Honestly I'm having loads of fun leveling with my other half. We goof around a lot and I think that's more of what the class was designed for. We got a lot of ridiculous abilities that serve no real purpose aside from the humor factor. Not going to lie, watching two people play hot potato with a mob by using sticky tongue is one of the most amusing things I've ever seen in this game.
You can technically set up dungeon runs in PF for XP, but it seems most of the dungeons I ran across were running unsynced in order to try and get the spell. I would imagine an XP party wouldn't take too long to fill up.
But yeah, overall...the mob grind is real. I made it to 50 last night, and now I'm just slowly picking up spells when I feel like it. Due to some farming horror stories, I probably won't push too hard until things are nerfed a bit.
Gave up at 40. I suppose I could force myself to grind to 50, but the chances of me getting into aurum vale to learn the last skill for the carnival is slim to none, so no point continuing. Dead end, basically.
I'm betting any beta testers (should they exist) don't sit around for hours trying to form parties and getting nowhere.
Completely finished here, got every spell, every battle, every title. My final opinion: It starts out fun in every aspect (leveling, learning, carnivale, being OP), but quickly each of those ends up becoming boring or nonexistent. So many things are immune to the OP spells, leveling on enemies gets boring, learning primal spells is downright painful, carnivale looses its luster when you learn a particular gimmick. My biggest complaint is that when it's over, it's over.
Each of those seemingly useless abilities ends up being a schtick for a Masked Carnivale match. So, there are uses for them, just not in standard gameplay. Of course, if BLU were a tank, Sticky Tongue would be a nice tool for picking up strays. If it could do regular content it would also be a good tool as a DPS to move a trash mob away from a healer and toward the tank's AoE, as a reverse Fluid Aura.
Grinding Primals’s spell is no fun.
I feel ... waste of time somehow.
Even Atma 2.0 or 1st Eureka still have reasonable rewards at the end but not this BLU spells .....

This one is 24 Blue Syrcus Tower
I think I'm done with grinding skills, since I have enough to do the full DPS rotation properly. Probably will just go back and get them later if they're needed for future carnivale battles.
All the achievements are done, too.
Overall, I felt the experience was pretty enjoyable outside of the skill grinds.
I am at level 42 i think? Would still love to try it in coil and such but man the job is weak.
I find that levels 40+ does feel like a big chore rather then fun which is a shame as i liked it in the beginning
Level 50 and 46/49 on my spell book. Only thing I'm missing is Glass Dance (seriously Shiva EX, give it up). Haven't really been able to figure out some of the Masked Carnival stages, though I did get this week's Silver star target (Sticky Tongue + Glower are your friends), but look forward to getting them done.
Can't be bothered to grind EX primals, so I guess I'm done, aside from the weekly challenges. And that'll only last until I finish collecting the riding maps and minions. I like the ideas behind the class, but the implementation left a lot to be desired.
I got all the field skills along with Mind Blast and Glower, and got it to 50. I enjoyed the experience of running around the field finding and learning those skills--and I even enjoyed Tam-Tara the first few runs. But after getting to 50, I tried a few dungeon farms and I just can't keep banging my head against the wall hoping to get all 25 or so of these skills with their awful RNG drop rates.
Really hoping they change something about this--not saying they need to make it a full job or whatever (though that would be cool as BLU is one of my all-time favorite FF jobs)--but I'm very disappointed by this grind-centric implementation and lack off OGCD skills (which makes for a very clunky feel to me). Having to continue to re-queue for a 15-20 minute (or longer, in my experience) dungeon run only for a % chance of learning the skill from the 2nd or 3rd boss (which can take an astronomical number of runs) is not my idea of fun.
They could make Off-guard, Bristle, Peculiar Light, and several other non-damaging moves OGCD with a cool down timer to make the class have some more synergy and IMO, a bit more fun to play.
Asked a friend if he's touched BLU since he got all his spells.
Answer: LOL No.
Replay: Me either.
Okay, so here's a quick review from me.
49/49 spells
25/25 masked carnival trials
3/3 achievements
I honestly felt the carnival itself was rather shallow. Quite a few of the enemies were weak against wind so it was basically spam glower with the occasional feather rain. Those who weren't was basically spam the element they are weak against. A few trials at least stood out. The claws that reflected physical and magic damage made for an interesting situation of hitting one without hitting the other while still damaging the boss for example. Only 4 trials really stood out to me including that one out of the 25. The last achievement was a nice challenge but the other two could be cheesed easily with final sting or self destruct. Now to get to the elephant in the room. Whoever decided that BLU's burst should be locked behind RNG should get a good smack in the back of the head with a paper fan. Or stepped on by Yotsuyu, take your pick. That was probably one of the most painful grinds just behind the Atma quest of 2.1.
As a class, I see Bluemage as having potential that is being held back by the wall of being a limited class. Which is honestly a shame. If anything, I can see it's very underpowered apart from a few spells that is easily solved by some tweeks to the spell itself. Making White Wind only healing for half the user's HP or having a large cooldown for example. Funnily enough, a lack of a basic wind spell also makes Carnival a bit more annoying to complete in it's own right.
