Then... what emote you'd like to see?

So, in the wake of the thread (with controversial opinions) about a /smoke emote, I'd figured to make this one to ask what emotes you'd rather have implemented.

I've seen a couple that are used by NPCs but we don't have access:
1) Persistent emote eating dango (or chicken leg?)
2) Persistent emote writing on a notepad
3) Persistent emote yelling in the street with pamphlet (the roe NPC near Kugane's MB)
4) Persistent juggling emote (Lala NPC in Ul'dah)

Others that aren't in the game or are in, but doesn't look like an emote per se:
5) Persistent action of holding an umbrella/parasol (this NPC near Kugane's aetherythe)
6) A /ledgesit emote, but maybe that would be technically hard or impossible?
7) Emote to relax laying on the floor (not playing dead).
8) Emote sipping a cup of tea.

I'm greatly interested in persistent emotes, because they look much more interesting as you can idle in new ways.

Those all sound great. I'm a particular fan of the laying down (on ground) emote, since right now you can only do that on beds and beach chairs.

My feeling on persistent emotes is that if the devs are thinking about adding a new emote, persistent should be the default, and they should only make it non-persistent if the particular emote doesn't work for it. I can't stand that things like /converse and /elucidate aren't persistent.

To be fair, a smoking emote wasn't really controversial in your other thread. People just weren't sure how SE would handle it or if they'd be willing to. But anyway, I stand by an eating emote of some kind. I'd love to see something like that.

Also, a /curtsey emote - /bow isn't good enough, my character was raised in high society, a curtsey is mandatory! ;)

/sleep anywhere, like every other mmo I've played has.
No cash shop
Just let my character relax on the beach, or in the forest, or wherever there isn't a bed.

I don't have anything specific to contribute, but I'm all for the idea of getting more and more npc emotes. I think any almost any and all emotes that npc have should be given to players. Imagine how many unrewarding pieces of content could instead have a slew of fun rewards if all npc emotes, furniture (just look at the hundreds of furniture items sitting around in the game that players can't use in their own house), mounts (half of all the monsters in the game look perfectly designed to be mounts), etc were added for players. And that's with so much less additional work since they're all already created.

Honestly, I might get hate for this because the W word is a swear word on a lot of mmo forums, but I REALLY like how WoW has integrated emotes into a lot of their game interactions.

Like say, if you chat your character will do a short /talk emote. Further complicating this is if you used a question mark in your text your character would do a special confused talk emote, or if you used an exclamation
mark your character would to an excited talk animation. Things like "lol" "hah" "hehe" would trigger /laugh I think ":(" would trigger /cry, things like that
Or when you open your map or mail, your character will open a scroll and look like they're actually reading something.
Or when you've gone afk your character will take a seat and rest.
And what's even better is almost all of these (not the sitting of course) can be used while running, walking, sitting, and mounted.

It really adds a lot to the world and player interactions to have pcs actually talking with eachother (outside of virtually invisible mouthflaps) and interracting with the world.


I know they complained about this during fanfest, about making emotes being able to be used while moving, but I know their team is smart enough to figure it out for their engine (it might actually make cutscenes easier to animate tbh). I know it'll take a lot of effort to develop and test, but it would add so much polish to the (honestly very static, almost lifeless) game world.\

So yeah, instead of a new emote, I would like to see new systems for emotes.

All of these are persistent and allowed when sitting

Meditating/deep breathing
Sipping a cup of tea
Chatting (A friend and I can afk next to each other but look like we are talking)
Picking up a minion and holding or petting it (This might be too involved to hope for)

I just want all of Hildibrands poses as emotes. Like, literally all of them.

I want the /sigh emote.

Just because I look at my friends and type in /sigh all the time but the emote does not exist, so nothing happens :|

I'd like an emote where you blindly swing your weapon around kind of like the boss does near the end of the Knights of the Round fight.

Access to the male idle, sit, doze (lying on bed) and weapon drawn "stances".


And for male characters to have the female ones as well.

Still want a /sink emote that simulates 6 fulms under or have it added as an effect in gpose. I'd pay money for this emote. Though I'd rather it be a status effect in gpose so I could use other emotes with it.

That defeated slump forward from alphinaud would be nice.

I was really happy when we got the /confirm emote. It has probably become my used most emote in the game as I use it when I am in my menus managing my inventory and things to do.

This being said, one thing I like to do while in my home is sitting at my desk while getting my list together for the mats I need for my next big crafting session... but my character just sits there not actually doing anything. What I would love is an emote that basically does several things at a desk: Writing, reading, occasionally drinking from a mug, showing delight from epiphanies, and frustration from complexities and so forth. THAT is an emote I would pay good money for in the cash shop, run content I currently don't do, or shovel the gil to the MB to get.

Unfortunately, hardly ever is my vision of QoL improvements/additions made a reality.

Definitely a /read emote. Seems like something they'd have had in this game a long time ago, what with creating an arcanist/scholar and all, but apparently not. :confused:

Definitely laying down (a few different ones), juggling (that would be a fun side skill - the better you get the more elaborate animations).

I want an emote that does the pose of the miqo'te NPC we see during the Halloween event.

An emote that isn’t put into mogstation right away.

Crouch emote please. I've seen it from male miqote but also there's a couple of ladies in Limsa Lominsa who do it.

I want a haughty "oujo" laugh. I also want a sort of "banzai" or "praise" emote you usually see in anime when a character demands it.

I'm waiting on the Hildebrand Dance from Stormblood.

/rage I think could push in a really interesting direction visually depending on execution, but I think pushing past more restrained anger into a downright murderous expression could be fun for drama and humor if applied to minor slights. /weary is because whether standing or sitting, Warrior of Light has been through heavy stuff. Sometimes slumped posture and exhausted expressions are useful options but doze isn’t quite correct
