Alright, hear me out. Feel free to tell me if this has been proposed already...
I don't want world based PvP, but I do want PvP, and of course, there are those of you who want open world PvP. So how do we make both players happy?
Include a sort of "PvP guild" which will be open for 3 weeks out of the month, with one week of cool down time. Players will register for a team during the cool down time, or just register for the event and receive a team randomly. During the 3 week event time, players of each team(Red and Blu for now) will be encouraged to hunt down and massacre the opponents to get points. Additionally, Red/Blu will be able to accept special leves/quests/NM hunts to boost their points. The winning team will receive some kind of bonus during the cool down week; possibly access to a special dungeon, special quests, unique crafting material, and access to cosmetic-only winner's gear(the "hell yeah we won!" hat)
Well? Thoughts? Again, this would let those in favor of world PvP have their fun, and not disturb anyone else, and you could take a break when needed(at least, untily ou sign up again)
This idea was heavily inspired by Monster Hunter Frontier's(the Japanese Monster Hunter MMO) Hunting Festival event.

I would imagine people don't want to wait for special time just to do PVP. 1v1 or 3v3 PVP in a coliseum like they're gonna do in Diablo III sounds suitable and simple enough to implement.

Arena based PvP is fine also, and that's how I picture the implementation as of right now.
This little competition would just be a fun test of skill. Hell, it doesn't even have to be PvP, it could be quest and NMs for points, just like the Monster Hunter Frontier competition. -

Just bring back the Conquest system from FFXI, nothing wrong with it and it's PVE/PVP. Create stronger connections with your hometown. Make the Teleport Crystals available only if you control the area. Give Special buffs to the conquest leading nation.
FFS stop trying to re-invent the wheel when you got perfectly working examples of good, addictive game design.
Make the game about the PLAYERS! -

The conquest system was good, but it was pretty passive. I never felt the need to go out and conquer some obscure zone for Windurst, but I wouldn't pass up Signet either. I also never really felt the benefits were that great. Slightly reduced prices, and a few merchants that'd just be in the other towns aren't amazing rewards.

If it's instanced PvP, then go ahead, but world PvP of any kind will lead to many people quitting (one of the reasons why I hate WoW so much -.-)

You wont have to participate in it, combatants would have to register in that one week sign up period. If you didn't sign up, then you wouldn't be in any kind of threat, unless seeing players fighting players terrifies you.

Open World PVP will never happen in a Final Fantasy, SE has stated that multiple times. The Japanese playerbase is heavily against it as they feel it goes against the Final Fantasy Aesthetic which is a group of friends fighting together to save the world, Not kill each other.

There's plenty of other PvP games out there with a focus on PvP. You're never going to find the best PvP in a PvE focused game. I would rather see no PvP at all in FFXIV and allow focus on good PvE instead of trying to mix the two, then go play a PvP game when I want some PvP.
Any PvP that is introduced should be confined to arenas where battle is on even grounds. That's really the only scenario where PvP is a sport and not just a matter of fight when you have the upper hand or run away when you don't.
Edit: on a side note, I do like the PvP idea mentioned, but not for FFXIV. -

I am all for a Coliseum in the Gladiators Guild. It's already there. May as well use it. Nothing like a little friendly competition to get the blood pumping in the morning. Like OP said, if you can't run away that's more fair. Make the PvP instanced in the Glad Guild. Even if people could sign up as spectators, that'd be fun. There's lots of people standing around in Ul'dah that'd like some entertainment anyways. Hey they could even let you wager Gil on who you think will win. Your Buddies, or the other guys...

i think that 1vs1 or team battle in the GLA arena in Ulda is a great idea too .
Chocobo racing tournament could be a great stuff and the return of a craft class for chocobos who would give to the other players well trained chocobo for the tournament would be cool.
other player could assist to the event share ideas and bet some money etc... -

Would seeing two players fighting it out bother you if you were 100% safe? This is just like being a spectator, but the combatants have the entire world to roam. This contest system(minus the PVP) worked pretty well in MHF, as it gave players something to do for the month, outside of the normal grind.
This set up is essentially a 3-week, non-stop, Ballista match. -

While fighting other players. ffxi pvp was military training drills (well games based off military training drills) Only pvp that was more fighting/ dueling was brennar which no one did.Quote:

I've heard bad things about Darkfall, how is it? Arena PvP would easily fit in XIV, but I really enjoyed ballista matches taking place in the same areas I explored, and I also really liked the MHF contest system. Really, I'd be happy just to see the competition system implemented, with/without PvP.Quote:
