Freedom with our characters

I know this would be a massive undertow and not that easy for Square, but I wish they would give us the freedom to do what we want with our characters.

Now here is my suggestion.

1. Give us the glams of the previous expansions by that I mean with HW and ARR done with we should be able to get the glams from them and at least with the armor be able to use it with any class not be restricted. The only restriction should be on weapons and we should still have relic choice but only if we finished the relic of said expansion. This would give players the freedom to make truly unique characters and it would be wonderful.

2. Get rid of dyes and give us a color pallet to use like in the hair selection so we can make unique color schemes of armor and weapons.

All of this should be in like a central hub that everyone has access to and can make a truly unique character for themselves.

Tell what your thoughts are and this is an open discussion not a way to attack anyone just a way to open up thoughts on how to approve things for us.

Less freedom means more money from mogstation sales. It's all about the money.

1. I don't personally mind some gear being locked to certain roles, because having a caster in heavy armor or a Dragoon set (which is stylistically specific to the job, more often than not) might seem a bit awkward, but I feel like some pieces could stand to be made into universal glamour pieces with different default color schemes or minor alterations ala the Anemos/Pagos gear or the Uraeus Coat.

I'd personally like to see more waist length jackets (the Anemos Jacket isn't bad but its length is very very strange.) Perhaps there could stand to be a bit more "casual formal" attire. The Scion Adventurer's Jacket was awesome, so maybe something akin to that only a bit simpler.

One thing that I could definitely get behind is making the race specific starter gear universal. I'd love to have my Hyur in something like the Miqo'te Vest, because I personally like that the most out of the starter gear.

2. I feel like it would be a lot of work the make such changes to the clothing color system (having dyeable "parts" rather than a preset dye pattern,) but it would be awesome if something like that could be implemented at some point. I think that part of it is that currently clothing on each character has to be loaded along with the dye choice, which is essentially loading two pieces of data. Adding in dyeable "parts" would mean that the game would have to load whatever clothing model is selected but also read each part for whatever color is being used. That probably wouldn't put too much of a strain on the system, but I could see altering what's in place already being a lot of work. I'd love something like that however!

Perhaps if something like that is added then maybe a tailor could be added to the major cities. You could visit them and alter your gear for a fee or provide dyes to do it for free. That way there would still be a market for dye on the boards.

As far as dye channels go, they've technically already got it set up for at least a 2-channel system, since certain parts of the gear will automatically dye a darker or lighter "matching" color to your dye. (High Allagan healing coat, I'm looking at you.)

The gear is programmed for different parts to display different shades of the one chosen colour, but that's not really connected to the ability to store two pieces of dye colour information on the gear.

Right now the instructions programmed into the coat would be something like:
- Apply standard shade of [colour] to bodice
- Apply pale shade of [colour] to sleeves

To implement a two-dye system you don't just need to change those instructions to [colour 1] and [colour 2] on every piece of gear that does it - and there are lots - you also need to add more data to the items so they can carry the information. Which boils down to more character customisation (which means more data to transmit to and from everyone on your screen) PLUS tinkering with the sorts of coding that they apparently can't tinker with very easily.

Job specific gear, like relic sets should be locked to a job. So a pld, for instance, couldn't wear dualist attire. But outside of that I don't see any reason to lock styles. I see jse kind of as its own special thing and comparing it to a bikini isn't the same. I'm ok with racial attire too, a lil bit of uniqueness is a good thing as long as they don't go overboard with it.

I would definitely like to see less robes for mages and less gear with 1 weird, out of place spike or piece of cloth jutting out of the shoulder or hanging from the waist. They keep adding these weird attachments to clothing just so they are asymmetrical and it just makes a lot of them look ridiculous imo. Just look at the ala mhigan crafting top's weirdly inflated belt bag that hangs to the shins, the gamblers jackets shoulder spike, the chimerical felt tabard of aiming and the awful flower petal skirt attached to it or every other piece of gear we get. You can make things look good without adding a big steel spike to the left shoulder. /rantover

I actually really like the male version of the Garo mage coat and would love to see more things like that for other jobs. It flows nicely too.

Dyes should definitely be changed. The fact that I try to dye a shirt that is 5 separate colors and every part turns a weird variant of my dye is just off putting on many pieces. Like the aforementioned High Allagan coat of healing. I just wanna make the red parts blue man, that's all.

the gambler coat looks that way because setzers coat looks like that in amanos art, and hes pretty big on asymmetrical outfits

The symmetry thing really throws me off sometimes too, honestly.

I've also often questioned the weird hanging extra bits on some of the gear, such as the WAR artifact gear for Stormblood (why do they need a massive blade chained to their butt?) or the weird ring of spikes on the bottom and back of the last Omega scouting piece that I imagine clips through the ground when weapons are drawn. The Strife Vest is another major offender, with its sheaths for eleventy hundred swords on the back.

why do you have to use one of the cooler ones as your example?
the thing hanging off the back of brutal lorica is a spare blade for the farsha.
It's possibly the only example in the game of an armor set that ties directly to a matched weapon


and to the original post, I am greatly in favor of some gear having limitations.
Limitations just make things more interesting, but maybe that's just me being old enough to remember trade-offs being the norm

I get that. Setzer was a favorite character of mine from VI, but in full 3d modeling it just doesn't look good and it was an easy target for an example because I didn't need to double check the name lol
