FPS Drops over time, especially after instanced duties.

Hello, I'm having this issue with the game where I am losing FPS over time as I am playing FFXIV. It only happens in this game.

Upon logging in, I get 142fps(because of my 144hz G-Sync monitor). After queueing for a few instanced duties for dailies, my fps slowly drops to around 100. This is without moving myself or my camera from the exact same spot which I logged in, and in an empty area.

Is there a fix for this? Thanks.

I am sorry to hear that the FPS is dropping. How often does the issue occur and what have you tried to solve the problem? Also, I noticed that the drivers on your graphics card drivers are not updated. Please update the drivers.

The issue occurs every time I am playing FFXIV. I have tried lowering graphics settings, updating graphics drivers(currently on the latest driver 417.01), disabling G-Sync, re-installing FFXIV and even Windows 10 but the problem still persists. The only temporary fix is restarting the game to "reset" the fps back to normal.

Do you have a way of monitoring your GPU? Is the GPU usage always at max, or is it dropping in accordance with the FPS?

Is the GPU overheating at all? It sounds like it could be thermal throttling.

I have capped my FPS at 144(1/1 Refresh Rate) using the in-game setting and my GPU usage is at ~60%, GPU temperature is ~60°C. GPU is not overclocked.

GPU usage stays the same even though the FPS drops.

Hi, get this problem after restart pc today, yesterday everithing work fine. Today after restart i get FPS drops, at inn my FPS is 60 (cap) in Ul'dah get 45 (reasonable this is normal FPS in town) then i teleport to other zone, still 45 FPS, then i teleport to Camp Bronze Lake and FPS drops to 19, after few minutes FPS drops to 9. This isnt the first time, last time this happened was around end of 2017. Driver and Windows 10 PRO is latest patch.

Hello,

I am having the same issue. When I log into the game I get stable FPS, but the moment I go into a Duty (dungeons) my FPS drops. I checked my CPU and the temps skyrocket to 103 Celsius. It doesn't happen in Eureka, Open World, or Cities. I tested other games, namely GW2 and Black Desert Online and have gone into intensive battles and experience no temperature spikes like in FFXIV. I am not having this issue elsewhere, except FFXIV. Never had a problem with FFXIV until this week (probably after latest patch?).

Hi,

I'm having the same thing. When I start up the game it's fine but as soon as I log into a character my FPS drops to 9 or 10. I have tried reinstalling FFXIV multiple times now, reinstalled my drivers and even did a laptop reset but nothing so far seems to work. I never had a problem like this until yesterday, on Friday the game still worked fine. When playing other games no noticeable drops in the FPS happened.

I seem to have found my culprit, the newest driver made all my games in fact massively drop in FPS

Hi, after latest nVidia drivers, problem seem go solved, still if occur i post it here. And i tried all thing from check temperature CPU, GPU and HDD, also check load on all tree, nothing unusual. And during FPS drop i mined near Camp Bronze Lake, after drop stop i went to potd, and after return to inn room, another FPS drop to 9 FPS. Maybe problem was with nVidia drivers from 26.11.2018.

Even after installing the latest nvidia driver update, 417.22, I am still getting FPS drops after doing a few instanced duties and it still gets worse over time.

Good afternon Pigcy,

I apologize for the delay in my response to this issue. Have you tried rolling back the drivers or doing a cleanboot? I also suggest disabling full screen mode by doing the following:

- Right click the launcher and select "Properties"
- Select "Compatible" and then check "Disable full screen"

Have you tried changing the compatibility mode? If not, please do so by going to the "Compatibility" tab, and change the compatibility mode to "Windows 7". Also does the FPS drop when the game is ran on DirectX 9 mode? Try switching to DirectX 9 by selecting the ‘Config’ button on the launcher.

In DirectX 9 mode, my performance is terrible from the start. In the same scene, I get 70fps at the lowest graphics settings in DX9 upon logging in, as opposed to 142fps capped at maximum graphics settings in DX11.

In compatibility mode for Windows 7 and Windows 8, FPS still drops over time.

If you have not done so already, please try a cleanboot. This can be done by opening the task manager and select the 'Start up' Tab. Disable everything and then restart the PC.
