BLU potential skills & enemies

Been putting together a list of the potential enemies you can learn blue magic from, using my knowledge from previous Final Fantasy games.

Just speculation for fun, but i hope this helps some people looking forward to BLU. anyone have anything to add to this list, feel free to do so. I also added the game in which the blue magic originated, to help you narrow down your search, should you wish to help expand this list.

I don't know the individual moves but I'd say the A/S ranks are good candidates to learn from.

They said Mighty Guard was added as the Tank LB2 is being renamed to Stronghold. So I'm guessing one of the Iron Giant type enemies for MG!

I don't recall any Iron Giant in this game actually using it, which means it could not be gained that way.
It was also stated that BLU would be gaining skills "through combat, as quest rewards, and via other means, not by increasing level", so we can probably expect 7-8 of their spells to come from Job Quests at 1, 15, 30, 35, 40, 45, and 50, and that those quest given ones are iconic ones that lack an enemy that uses them.
The "via other means" bit is the part that has me curious though. A thought I had on this was to learn some from items, as in Final Fantasy 8. Add Triple Triad cards to Desynthesis, give them a chance at breaking down into an item to learn the skill from. So you could, for example, farm Shiva EX in hopes of Glass Dance getting learned or break down her cards as they drop or are earned through TT Tournaments in hopes of getting it that way.

Blue Mage progression will involve fighting enemies in public areas. Defeating monsters has a different EXP curve for Blue Mage. A new calculation formula for the experience points had to be created in which Yokozawa says was really tough. You can also pre-form parties and undertake instance duties but duty roulettes are not an option. Blue Mages will gain more experience defeating enemies in public areas.

Upon attaining level 50, you may use the many abilities you have learned to undertake unique challenges in this blue mage exclusive arena. To triumph in the Masked Carnivale, you must employ abilities which exploit the weaknesses of the enemies you face.

The abilities you use will have different properties like elemental properties that you will need to use. The point is to find out which abilities, or combination of abilities, will get you to think on what is best to use. Each entry will consist of three rounds and there are 25 different encounters in each of the three rounds. If you don’t have the blue magic required you’ll either need to go get the magic or figure out how to complete the stage with the magic you have. For example, usually bird monsters in Final Fantasy games are weak to lightning — this is the type of properties battles in the Masked Carnivale will have.

Some of the different magic includes a cactuar’s ‘1000 Needles’. To learn an action, you need to ‘see’ the action but you don’t have to be hit by it. For a morbol’s ‘Bad Breath’ you don’t have to sit in the AOE marker and suffer the status effects. You can learn an ability from Shiva too.

By defeating enemies after witnessing them performing certain techniques, blue mages may “rarely” learn new abilities. How rare? The team says when you see the Action Learned” text on the screen it’ll feel like an exciting moment. Unique abilities gained through combat, as quest rewards, and via other means, not by increasing in level. These abilities consume MP upon use in battle. More powerful abilities more MP. Upon release, 49 unique abilities can be learned. Once they raise the level cap, there will be an increase in the amount of abilities there are. Up to 24 abilities can be equipped. The abilities will be recorded in a Blue Mage Spellbook. When you hover over an empty entry, you will see the location of where to find it — therefore you’ll have to predict and work with the community to find where it could show up. For some duties, you could queue as or with a Blue Mage to help them learn an ability.

Other blue mage spells include: ‘Eruption’, ‘Mighty Guard’, and ‘Aqua Breath’. The tank’s level 2 limit break has been changed to ‘Stronghold’ to acommodate this.

I wasn't singling you out, I was replying to your comment on the Iron Giants before moving on to my own speculation based on the Live Letter confirming that it's not just killing monsters after watching them that gets us skills.

I imagine the second boss of autumn vale will give Glower

I'm not sure we'll even get staples like Blaster when we already have seemingly immediate access to Bad Breath for generalized status application.

Well, its possible, but bear in mind, SE said that some of the magic you learn, will be replaced with stronger and better blue magic as you go

I just felt it was worth adding to the list, just in case

I'm liking this, but I really hope they don't make any elite marks actually needed for Blu skills.

I was looking for some monsters with healing abilities, the only monsters I know who heal are the ones at the Azim steppe , it's those bush shrubs monsters, they use cure.

White Wind is a blue magic healing spell from FFV.

Lv 5 deat from Angra Mainyu in World of Darkness though gl getting 23 other people in pf XD

Enkidu, Battle in the Big Keep. Do the fight wrong by focusing on Gilgamesh first to get him to use the heal.

the difference between blaster and bad breath could be several things, from potency vs statuses balance, to the type of spell like cone or single target, to cast time, to mp cost, to cooldown

Exactly! Plus, in the live letter, it was said that some blue magic spells can become stronger when used in combination with other certain BLU spells.

Atm though, we won't know till January, but still fun to speculate!

There is a signature blue magic healing spell called "White Wind". It first appeared in FFV. White Wind is already in XIV, it is used in "Battle in the Big Keep", and used by "Enkidu". This can be accessed via the ARR Hildebrand quest line.

This was from the discord translation so just posting it in here for BLU

Mighty Guard-Take lesser damage. Enmity obtained will increase while in this effect but dealing damage will be lowered.

Water Cannon
Water Elemental Damage on an enemy. Potency : 120

I noticed there's a skill that's learned from Copperbell Mines.

If it's going with the trend of making the skills learned from bosses, I'm thinking it might be Boost from Gyges, since that could be an introduction to the concept of using a skill to power up the next.

I hope not. No job needs a Dark Arts ability.

Going with the assumption that every Primal gives an ability, Garuda would likely give Wicked Wheel.

I would bet actually money on Mighty Guard being the level 15 quest ability. By having us get it from there, we will have in available just in time to start running dungeons as groups of 4 BLM.

I wonder if we will also get a healing stance, to go alongside Mighty Guard. If not, hey, at least the community will finally have a use for the role action Drain.

I think it would be reasonable to expect the healing and tanking stances to be quest rewards, but maybe it would make more sense for the healing stance at 15 and the tank stance at 30? Even tanks don't get their tank stance until 30, and lower level parties can probably manage without tank stance as long as the designated damage dealers use Diversion.

I agree with this. This makes the most sence, given that it is inline with how the other jobs learn their role stance skills. I did not consider a healer stance, but i think that sounds like a great idea! mu only thought then, is what other healing skills we may get. White Wind is of course a given, as it is already in game, but I'm curious to see what the dev team has come up with.

Angra Mainyu uses lv150 Death.
They confirmed that lv5 Death will be learned in the Great Gubal Library after they raise the level cap to 60.

Lvl 5 Petrify is also in game. It can be found in the Labyrinth of the Ancients. Its cast by the Rotting Eye adds from the first boss, Zombie Dragon.

There's a ton of "Improves next ability" actions like DRG's Life Surge, BRD's Barrage, and NIN's Duality, but with cooldowns so you're not having to spam them.

I'd assume BLU's will be the same.

Sorry, I misinterpreted your post to mean a spammable booster like Dark Arts. A booster with a cooldown would be fine.
