Derplander appears to have kept his newbie gear from 1.0
Maybe that's just glamour. :3
Yeah, they showed Derplander's progression in order from the 1.0 days. Was great symbolism on their part.
Now back to square one for a new path?
Also, when did the WOL go and get all hawt.
Funnily enough, that 'ARC' gear from 1.0 was not even real - he only originally wore that in an Echo scene! in 1.0 (he was technically GLA in 1.0's opening). But yeah, definetely a reference to Derplander's 'journey' from 1.0 to the present day.
Derplander still never bothered to replace his Warrior helmet from when it got shot off. Don't be that guy, Derplander, repair your gear!
WoL really bringing sexy back with Shadowbringers trailer....I think I have officially tossed Aymeric aside for him xD
That tousled hair and beat up dark look really suits him, umph! :o
He did look good in SB trailer but....his hair was a bit too short for my tastes. I love the new look.
I loved that small detail so much.
Ya know, the poor guys been getting beaten about left right and center since his (presumably) early 20s. It's been 8 years LOL He's growing up and growing old. 10 more years, he's goina be going grey. Least they're not mean enough to give him a receding hair line... I hope.
I love that this has become a "recognise WoL's hotness" thread.
Shouldn't we be calling him Warrior of Darkness now~? ;3 Warrior of Dark Hottness, let's go with that for the sake of this thread. XD
Derplander has evolved into Danklander!
Reading this thread made me realize... I only started playing at the start of HW, but why did we choose to call him Derplander?
Yeah, I agree. And more ironic is his original class was GLA (both in the opening movie and the original propaganda art for 1.0), which, given it upgrades to PLD, and it's whole 'holy' thing.... would have been a better fit for the 'weary traveller' look.... but then that may have been too blatant with the symbolism. ;)
It's a really old meme from the late 1.0 era, a couple of members here on this forum started calling him that as a joke in regards to the silly faces he seemed to make in the original 1.0 opening and the early ARR teaser trailers, however the final ARR trailers improved on his facial expressions so it was no longer appropriate, but the name stuck and now we call him it fondly rather than with any ill intent. Some dislike it, but I keep finding myself calling him it endearingly. :D
And yes, I would totally have him in my party if I could. ^_^
Derplander's account was banned for botting. He's on a new account, having flashbacks of his past life. Him changing swiftly into the other jobs is him using multiple jump potions.
Often companies use real life models to base a character's face on, anyone know if they used one for the cgi WoL? Or maybe it's a question that can be thrown up at the fanfest Q&A.
Another sneaky piece (imo) was them using Kuribu and Winged Lion in the trailer. I was a little surprised how little people realized they used bosses from Lost City of Amdapor (hard) in the trailer. Possibly Amdapor is related to this or it is some pretty good symbolism for him fighting light.
Personally I'd say that it was probably that whatever people worked on the cinematic was pulling from existing "Light" enemies for the trailer...which we don't currently have a lot of. The Gremlin probably ISN'T Light-aligned, which I'd say supports my point because it DOES appear in the same dungeon as said Light enemies.
Well don't forgot that derplander and crew are the Warriors of Darkness so we are really see him struggle in his world being over taking with Light.
While I really can't say it means anything, when the flashback at the begining is happening, it shows one glimpse of each era (ARR, HW, SB) but shows a frame from the 1.0 opening in between each and every one of them? Also if you look back at the 1.0 opening right at the end of the part the new trailer pulled from (the echo vision) it almost gives the impression of him being consumed by the light right as the vision ends...in fact that frame is the last one shown in the new trailer. Food for thought maybe?
