Please don’t shift Midgardsormr to the new DC. :(
Please dont separate balmung and mateus. :(
It will absolutely shatter my static and friend group D:
I'm not entirely sure how I feel about being shuffled around, but my hope from this announcement is that they're finally fixing some of their server issues to be able to handle the added strain.
Yeah, because we have friends that aren't in the static that have friends on our home servers, and they have friends, and so on. Either way people are going to have to be abandoned if we go that route.
My FC is pretty much made up of transfers to balmung, and saying "lol jk you wasted your money" freaking sucks
Not to mention that most of us have houses that we won in the housing wars that we'd have to give up.
Being uprooted is not a solution to SE's poor foresight when it comes to server demands.
From what it sounded like they're going to be offering free world transfers to people so they can stay with their friends.
I love my Leviathan family <3
Please be east coast.
I feel like if you do have a cross world static you may be effected if you want to play with same people. But they did say there will be free transfers.
Wonder if years of people complaining finally paid off... Will have to look at the details when they are posted. Hopefully this is a sign that "server limitations" will become a thing of the past just like "PS3 limitations" did.
They are going to add new worlds too right? Having each dada center have half the number of worlds the current ones do wouldn’t be ideal.
Adding new world's wouldn't be ideal either the population isn't big enough to be split across even more world's..
Selfish me would like to see my server shifted back east though I've been on sargatanas since it was created when saronia is and lindbulm merged in 1.2 And ever since the data centred latency has been horrible for many of my friends. So I'd be happy if they put it back east.
Not sure if it's a good news for EU, with the population numbers that have been estimated by players. If SE want to dissipate any doubt, they better start communicating official population number instead of bs "14m adventurers"
Sounds like they are going to pull some servers from the existing data centers and put them in then new datacenter, which means you could end up split up if you have a cross world group. World Visit is nice and all, but it doesn't allow you to cross datacenter boundaries AFAIK. (Primal can't visit Aether can't visit w/e they're calling the new one). So the problem then becomes housing. Guess we'll find out.
There will be total chaos for sure when it's implemented as I'm reminded of the server merges in FF11.
Leviathan too. Population is heavily lopsided on NA servers so they probably want to bust that up (for good reason). I expect a lot of pain and complaints when the details are announced. It sucks when your friend circles are broken up so I hope SE is ready to ease the pain if they try to even out the population by shuffling the servers around. The community might not recover if they handle it poorly.
Levi isn't in Aether though, the main problem here is Aether, it has quite a few thousands of players over Primal.

5 of the 6 top populated servers are in Aether, also neary every Chaos server is more populated than the remaining aether/primal servers.
What you should expect for aether is that at least 3 of those 6 top servers will be moved to the new data center to balance the load. Lower pop servers don't necessarily have to move if they plan to add new servers to the new dc.
With chaos they only have to move the top 3 and mix it with new servers and the load should be fine.
No thanks, aether and primal can stay west coast.
Ill gladly switch to the new data center and so will 95% of my fc if its on the east coast, but it won't happen, I already know they will keep all 3 in cali because of this beautiful lie they told us over a year ago.

I mean cool, continue to screw over east coasters on those DCs who also have friends on the west coast, because it's completely normal for mmos to have communities span a continent.
Or we can compromise like every other MMO and place the servers in texas or somewhere close to the center of the continent.
Not to mention that this dramatic delay is an XIV problem specifically. I live on the east coast, and every other mmo I play has me at 40-120ms on average play with virtually no feelings of delay. None of these games have servers on the east coast.
Not nearly enough houses will open up even if we're being generous. Bear in mind, a lot of people still have multiple houses due to the whole grandfather system. Which segues to my next point...
If they're smart... they will add additional wards alongside what looks to be Ishgard housing. Furthermore, I would like to see them remove the aforementioned grandfathering and officially make housing locked to one personal and a FC. This would mitigate at least some of that pain. If they offer nothing but 80% compensation for your house (this should be increased to 100% btw), then they deserve a fair amount of backlash.
Good thing I don't have friends on the west coast then. since I don't play on Balmung
Chicago would actually have been for the best a year ago, but now I would rather have an east data center if they are going to make a new one.
Either way is fine really, just don't keep them in Cali. But they will because I have no faith in them.
I could actually see this data center thing all working better with world visit, free transfers and instanced housing. As it stands right now, though, it's a hard sell any way you look at it. Definitely going to shake things up.
On a side note... The mention of farms makes me hopeful they may have looked into FFXI's instanced island feature. (Wishful thinking.)
I thought they said additional data centers, not just moving them. It's heresy no east coast servers yet.
To be fair, there's plenty of reason for another datacentre even without putting it in a different location - shift them around so that you don't have most of the populated worlds on one datacentre, and lighten the load a little by shifting a couple from each and adding a couple of worlds to the new one. Less load on the actual hardware.
I’ll have to find a new static if they split Balmung and Cactuar... Pretty worried about this to be honest, because I’ve finally found a static that I really like and get along well with.
That’s out of the question for anyone who doesn’t want to lose their housing on their home server, or who don’t want to lose their other friends from their home server. For me, a transfer is out of the question because I’d lose contact with my friends that got me started in this game and I would lose my housing...
