Housing Woes

It feel unfair for the first time house buyer when trying to buying a plot, camping outside with other hopefuls , only for them to be dashed by someone relocating to it or having to wait the rng timer to decide it you are worth yet for a house.

I understand the reasoning behind the timer, but couldn't they come up with a system like a waiting list so if plot does pop up you given a chance to buy them(or something like that i don't know), since it is clear that housing is still a problem and many people still want to enjoy it

and yes I'm aware of the apartments, and there not the same, esp if you want your other half to be tenet in one.

Despite that people saying that "fans asked for it", I surely didnt ask for random rng hidden based timer to have people fight over it.

It's very important and sad to know how a minor content of the game is more stressful than the main content of the game.

Honestly... first-time home buyers need to just buy whatever plot is open first, then worry about getting their dream plot later. Relocating is really the only reliable method to getting the plot you want.

As Numenor says, don't wait for a specific plot to open. Buy whatever is available. That way you can relocate when something you like better appears.

If you're on the high pop realms where getting any property can be difficult, relocation doesn't change the number of plots available since that player's old plot now goes up on the market. With the way the timer system works, it might actually be available for purchase before the one you were camping would have been available. Just chat up the old owner and find out what plot they used to own.

I don't think most people believe the system is "doing fine". I think they believe the system is an improvement over what it was before.

Without the timer, that house likely would have been snatched up by a reseller the moment it became available and then people would have to checking reddit to see who's willing to relinquish their property for tens if not hundreds of millions of gil. At least this way it has a chance of making it into the hands of someone who's actually going to use the house and not just flip it for profit.

You want a house? We've got over 600 available on Coeurl right now. There were a dozen mediums available when I did my census last week, including a couple that had bottomed out on price. You don't have to spend 12-24 hours of your life fighting to get a house. You just have to be where they are available in the first place. Somewhat like real life - you want to own a house instead of rent or you want a real job instead of unstable part time work? You move to where the houses and jobs are available.

You are the architect of your own misery when you will not do what is necessary to get what you want.

If you honestly think the system is not working properly due to being able to relocate, you clearly haven't been around for a while or you just don't get it. Being able to transfer an FC house to someone else has been around ever since housing exists in this game and nothing's changed. You can still have 8 FC houses per account on top of 1 personal house. How is that supposed to hinder reselling plots in any given way? ;)

On the same server? I thought it was one personal and one fc per server.

The restriction on the amount of FC houses you can purchase on a single server lasted two weeks.

Honestly its not. You can autosynth lvl 50 green items using items your retainers collected and turn them in to the gc and literally get an FC high enough to buy a house in a couple hrs, if that. If you have some lvl 50+ dungeon gears stocked up to turn in you can speed that up incredibly.

Hours? I've done it in two minutes lol.

Best way to go about this is this...when a plot opens up that you want buy a cheap small and then relocate to your desired plot. Or maybe have a small plot owned as you wait, that way you can bypass the timer with little to no risk of others beating you to it. That's what I did when I was looking to buy another house after losing the one I had after a 5 month break. Plot opened up in Shirogane so I went to take a look. When I decided I'd buy it, I went to Mist to buy a 1.4 million gil small. Then I went back to Shirogane and transferred instantly. You just have to be persistent and keep checking the wards. If you can't beat the relocaters by camping a plot, then beat them at their own game.

Last time I checked Coeurl for census, (this was 3 days ago). There weren't 600. I'd have believed you if you said Goblin because that's actually the amount there.

That isn't what we are saying. Getting the house you want takes either great luck, time or a combination of both. However, getting into housing by buying ANY plot you find gives you a large bump when it comes to getting the plot you really want.

So what you do is this:

- Buy a small plot anywhere just so you are on the housing ladder.
- Watch the wards of the plot you really want a few times per day or so. This is where patience comes in. Use your current house to buy furnishings or as a starter base, or don't use it at all. Just have it.
- When the plot you want opens immediately travel to it and relocate. This is the reason you bought the other house, because you completely bypass the timer via Relocation.

Can you still get screwed? Yep.
Will it take time? Absolutely.

But it is lightyears better than trying to camp a spot and hope for hours. It took me two months before a spot opened at LB 29/59 for me, but I moved there instantly when it did.

Get your foot on the ladder. That is the important first step.

I just did the census on the census on the 24th. Check the census thread. It might be a little lower now but not significantly so. We've been running 500-600 available houses pretty consistently since the wards were added at the start of the year since we're usually marked as a preferred world (lost the status for about 6 weeks then got it back). The number of available mediums can vary a lot though there's usually at least 3-4 open.

It also stinks we cant just trade our house in. I don't want to keep my mansion since idk if I am going to stayed subbed at this point but I don't wanna loose 40m gil in case I don't so I am just sitting on it, not only does the timer need to tick past 45 days but also I need to wait til it starts again since they shut it down for the hurricane.

There is no logical reason housing should be this convoluted…

To get an FC from 1 to 6 requires the FC to earn about 86,000 credits. The FC doesn't get that much for each hand in (you might get 1400+ seals for handing in level 70 items, but the FC only gets a few points, even if you're getting the bonus for being the only one online) so even if you had an absolutely massive stockpile of items ready to hand in, that's still going to take more than a few minutes to actually hand them all in, as well as all the preparation time it took to acquire all those items in the first place.

I know that raising an FC to 6 can be done in a few hours, I've done it myself in 6 hours, although not something I want to repeat any time soon. For me it was a combination of HQ crafting/hand ins, but even then I'm not including the time taken to gather materials to craft with before I started (which with hindsight maybe I should have done while in the FC as HQ gathers would have earned 3 points each time too...)

But what you're saying, that is just not possible. But hey, I'm happy to be proved wrong! (and it'd be useful if I ever needed to level up another FC!)

Step 1: Ditch the guides that tell you to gather thousands of items and craft militia chokers. It's 2018, not 2015 my lala.

Step 2: Fill your inventory with ilvl 220/ ilvl 170 items on the market board that players have obtained from ventures and therefore don't have any clue what they are actually worth. If you know your way around the market board, chances are you already bought these HQ 220 items that were being sold for 5000 gil but since you're here...

Step 3: Ignore the /tell you just received about this player who's trying to lowball you on overpriced vintage items that nobody crafts, because you know he's gonna buy them anyway.

That's a lot of prep work aka more than 2 minutes, but it really does just prove that it doesn't take long if someone knows what they're doing.

Prep work? You should already have these if you look at the market board. And even if you don't, it takes 10 minutes to purchase the items you need. Top.

Saw this thread and just needed to vent so just let me okay? I play on Mateus. Houses come up 1-3 every 3-4 days. Only S plots normally. Once a M in the 3 months I have been playing. I am a big RP player love the FC im in etc. I want a house for story reason between GF and I IG. Won't bond till we have a house. S comes up. sat for 10 hours. Relocator comes up and takes it. S come sup. Sat for 5 hours. Relocator comes up and grabs it. M comes up. SAT FOR TWENTY HOURS to get it. Relocator comes up and takes it. This has been my days off from work to do this. Housing is ridiculous to the Asheron's call level. For those who don't know what they did they announced housing then released about 400 houses for the entire server when at low they had over 700k accounts not counting duplicates. We have 600k accounts on one server! Let's release 600 houses should be fine right? I also want to include the jerks with the grandfather clause who still own several houses but only log in to keep their houses from house release. Having the ability to own a house and a FC house is stupid. FC housing should be instanced like apartments were in 11. That would free up houses for other people (maybe)

Having invisible timers is useless and infuriating. I can't even buy a house from someone willing to sell it cause of the timer. Having relocation as a FC only option is also making me hate this game. Okay my vent is over sorry just had yet another house sniped from me after waiting hours.


Edit: Also discovered people running bots to sit and click for them to try to buy the house every so often. Easily done as I was informed with a simple mouse repeating 3rd party program allowing them to sit at an available house when not at the computer and try to buy the house without having to sit there for hours on end.

Relocation isn't an FC only option. If you had a personal house, you could use the relocation option to transfer to another plot (as you're not over the item limit). And it would free up more houses to make personal houses instanced instead of FC houses. Sorry that you're now on one of the more populated servers (Mateus sat mostly empty before the free transfers from Balmung), so it's a bit harder to get a house. I agree that the invisible RNG timers make it super hard to get your first house on a populated server, but I don't see that changing any time soon. I wish you the best of luck in trying to get yourself your first home!

Well thank you for your reply and explanation, but you've just said exactly what I already said about handing in items in bulk to level up the FC. You just went into more detail about it. My point was that it's not possible to do this in just a few minutes as you claimed and you've just confirmed that I was correct in that statement.

I also can't help but notice that the economy on your server is considerably different to mine. We don't have an abundance of 170+ items on the marketboard, and certainly not at prices you'd want to pay in bulk (nothing like 5k each!). However, we also have a lot of available houses/choice and from what I understand that's not the case on your server.

If you want a true tip to levelling an FC fast, just buy one from another player who's already levelled it. There's always people moving server who have them to offload and even with the marketboard prices you're paying, it'll be cheaper too.

I agree! When the new wards came out I settled for my non-dream small plot. When I saw the plot open up I relocated ASAP. I think it's all about helping the veteran players get what they want as they have been playing longer, Im not saying newbies can't but they need to go through stages we did. I know on Lich the small plots are abundant.

I wish they gave more money back to those who want to give up home so as to make more available. I know many who dont want to be part of the seller problem - but really want some money back and to transfer to a small (which is what I want) will loose me over 10mil.
I know it is a money sink- but it shouldn't be this much of a ding.

well its been a few days and still no luck, with 2 of us waiting and hoping for a small house anywhere only for it to be taken by a faster clicker or a relocater :/
just be nice to actually get somewhere so then we can actually get on the housing scene.

Also no were not making an fc to get a house since were happy with the fc we in. :)

A FC would have the same problems getting a house anyways.

Best of luck on your house hunting, I know it can be frustrating. Just a small reminder for when you do actually get one if you're sharing it, the person that buys the plot (for personal plots) is the owner. The owner is the only person that will reset the 45 day auto demolition timer by entering the house (tenants will not reset the timer). Keep this in mind if you're splitting costs or adding furniture together and one of you tends to take long breaks from the game or has less interest.

I feel sorry you cannot comprehend that I got enough FC points in that video to level up an FC to rank 6 in minutes. Nothing lost since you didn't understand that I can spend 160k GC points to make more money than what I spent on those unwanted high level items. Cheaper, right. :rolleyes:

I think at most you proved that sure, you can do this very specific thing, on your server, with some amount of prep work before hand (that did not have it's time added into the over all time, so the results are skewed).

This worked for you, specifically, but it isn't likely to work for everyone. It's not viable. Every server has a different economy/MB selection. Not every server is going to have easy access to these things that made this so easy for you.

So, cool, good for you for being able to level a GC super fast (although I'd say it took more than the 2 minutes you originally claimed).

The fact you can do this though isn't helpful to anyone else, and just feels like a statement made to either brag, or to mislead people on what they should really be doing to reasonably level a GC. Back on topic, the housing situation is pretty awful. Best you can do is find a way to make the system work for you until they change it, and in the mean time, keep fighting to get them to change it. Upgraded apartments and instanced housing would fix literally everything, they just seem to be sitting on their hands refusing to try either of these things.

Already went over this. If you don't already purchase various items on the market board that are way under priced, that's on you. If you want to waste 6 hours of your life leveling up an FC non stop by using archaic methods, sure go ahead. If your server's economy is in shambles, what are you even doing there leveling an FC on your own? Just move elsewhere already. Anyway, the lala said it wasn't possible and I demonstrated that it can be done. How argumentative of me~

That being said, I do have to agree with the last part of your post. Housing's in a terrible state right now. The plots are way too affordable and the auto-demolition timer is way too long. Bring back the original prices from 2.1 and shorten the demolition timer to a week at most.

Pricing and the demoltion timer are hardly the problem when it comes to housing. How about they increase availability through more plots/wards or add instanced housing? You know, solutions to real problems.

The real solution is going back to how things were when nobody complained about not owning a house. Housing is quite literally the only gil sink this game has. Oddly enough, they lowered the prices twice and dramatically increased the amount of available plots despite having dead/empty servers. No wonder everyone and their lalafell want feel entitled to own a house. :rolleyes:

I've mentioned this in a similar thread, every single day on Gilgamesh you can spot new empty plots. It is safe to assume that most of these are the result of the auto demolition. Avg that number of available plots on a daily basis to 5. That's 5 times 45 days. Talk about a waste of time for people that are looking into purchasing a house. Drop that timer to 7 days, no one will be able to complain about other players keeping houses they "don't use"
