PAISSA. you want PAISSA.
Anything but Paissa.
Stone wall + composite roof + glade hedgewall
This is the exact combo that I used on my FC's house, lol. Dug around and found a slightly old screenshot of it. Some stuff has changed but those three things are still the same.

My neighbor has a chocobo house. I want to burn it to the ground but im thankful its not a paissa.
If you want a premade, I actually like the otter house. It can still be a bit kitschy with all of the otters, but it's not overwhelming like the other "themed" houses, and if you ignore the otters or look at it from a distance, you only see the walls and the thatch, none of which says "otter". You can dye it, too, so it's not just the original green. The otters also don't take up half your yard like the carbuncle pillars.
Odder Otter is my favorite and I have it on my personal small in LB - I think it fits in well with the forest, too.
Odder Otter House Wall is great for any location but looks best in the Lavender beds, I have an Otter wall set to my lavender beds mansion (Plot 6) and I can jump from the entry gate straight on to the roof trim and walk across on to the balcony!
Shirogane Castle Wall because it's so underused /s
All of the Lavender Beds exteriors are nice. When I was there, I used the Wood wall with Composite roof. I'm personally not a fan of the Wood roof, but my friend did a fun thing with it last winter where he dyed it white so it looked like his house was covered in snow.
Yeah, Lavender Beds exteriors are pretty good. I wish we were able to use whatever style we wanted regardless of which housing area we're in (Lavender Beds houses in Mist for example). But for now, Shirogane Castle is the one I prefer. It seems to fit decently in every area but Goblet, but that's just my opinion.
While I do love the odder otter house (because it's not Overwhelmingly Otter), I agree with this. The small arms, eatery, etc. skins are a good start, but how about some houses that aren't "Final Fantasy Creature" themed? They could start by applying the main thing everyone asks for - unlock all the housing styles for all the zones - and then we could go with an Ishgardian- or Ala Mhigan-themed housing shell next? Or even something generic that isn't wholly Ul'dah/Limsa/Gridania themed?
I realllly want to make my house in a gothic castle theme! I would love to live an a vampire mansion themed place; dark and elegant ^_^
Odder houses seem to require too many ship parts and I am not paying 7-12 mil for a simple house skin.
Ship parts? No ship parts or even materials that come from voyages are needed to build Odder Otter walls. Everything needed to make the Odder Otter walls comes from gathering or normal mob kills except for the Raziqsap to make the Platinum Ingots and that is purchased with GC seals. There isn't even that much that comes from timed nodes.
SE could artificially increase the amount of exterior skin options by unlocking the glade, riviera, oasis and shirogane housing skins to be usable in all districts. And they really should. The argument for consistency in the exterior environment is completely invalid now that there are so many crazy skins that don't fit in any of the districts' aesthetic.
Odder Otter if you want a creature skin. Otherwise the armory skin or any beds skin as they are all A+++
No piassa cause its awful ugly, same with choco and no carby or shirogane castles depending on your location because they are just too high. Had a nice view of the water from my house in Mist til someone blocked it with the 100 yalm high med carby house. Now all I see is the peak of their roof, which is also turned sideways so its like a big blue wall.
No clue what SE is thinking with housing. First they make these awful neighborhoods instead of instanced housing and impose furnishing restrictions that only exist because SE needs to be arbitrary rules on everything, then they add these nightmare skins that either destroy what view we had or are used to troll the neighborhood (ie Piassa). Wish they would give us more actual house options instead of towering kawaii sideshows.
Right. The walls themselves don't need the materials. They just need to be made in a FC workshop that has the prototype unlocked.
I don't want people to be discouraged about getting the things they would like to have because they think something is required that they won't be able to get. Sometimes it's just a matter of asking around to see if someone can help. I contacted Besame as soon as I logged on after her post yesterday, she gathered the materials needed for the walls and we made them in my FC's workshop tonight. Her house is now looking as sharp on the outside as it does on the inside. ;)
Yep. I literally gathered and crafted 90% of what I needed for my large castle walls myself and had some cool fc mates donate the rest. Then they sat around with me for the 15 minutes it took to put all the parts in and advance through all the projects. I helped another FC mate with his otter house. I may start working on mats for Otter Mansion Walls myself. The other two mansions in my ward have the same mansion skin, so I might try something different.
Just wish you could put stuff in there in bulk. Having to go through and click 15 times per item per stage gets tedious.
The other omni-crafter in the FC and I have put in mats at the same time for a few projects. Still annoying but faster and less annoying for the person who would otherwise be doing it all. It can spit error messages if you're both trying to add the same material at the same time so one of us will do the ingots while the other does the rivets, etc.
I understand why SE set it up that way (so multiple players have the chance to contribute over time) but I doubt many if any FCs take advantage of that.
