Too many needless restrictions

This game has too many needless restrictions that only hinder the gameplay experience for seemingly no reason.

Here are examples of what i'm referring to:

-Wait 24 hours after leaving a FC before being able to create a FC
-One time Item restoration
-Wait x amount of days/time between being able to change GC's
-Pay x amount of gil after changing GC's more than 1 time
-One time Character Restoration
-Wait x amount of days after the creation of a character before being able to transfer
-No option to manually demolish your own house to reclaim gil
-X amount of days after auto house demolition to reclaim items/gil
-X amount of gil allowance per character/retainer for server transfer (server gil is pretty even by now.)
-Obtain x rank in GC before being able to change GC
-No option to share housing with your alts
-No option to trade between alts naturally
-No option to send moogle letters to yourself or alts
-Must obtain level x / complete x quest to change classes
-Gear sets locked behind amount of classes unlocked



These are just some of the needless ones i could come up while writing this thread. Im sure there are many others that other people can think of or that I personally completely forgot.

I understand some are to "help prevent RMT" but clearly they dont prevent RMT and to my personal view point, only needlessly hinder the playerbase.

-No option to offer gameplay time to a friend as a gift

I understand things like "must reach level x to use party finder" and "wait x amount of time before using /sh and /s" but.... yeah the ones i listed i feel are completely not needed, and serve little to no purpose but hinder the playerbase.

My statement is, they shouldn’t have changed housing until they could address this. Or they should have thought about the problem housing would create when they created it.

One of the reasons they said 1.0 failed was because they would say “we’ll address the issue with the next patch.”

Grant it the severity of the issues in 1.0 they put on hold aren’t as severe as the ones they put on hold now, but still.

I’m sure there are plenty of people who quit the game due to housing issues. In fact there is a thread up right now of a 1.0 player who quit due to housing. “Forced to quit after 1,800+ days subbed due to housing”

Which this falls under 2 different categories of the list I made. (Item restoration restrictions, and limited days of item reclaim from auto demolition.)

I'm not sure if they're going to address this fatal flaw, but not only was it already possible to add your alts to your main characters friend list, but once they found out how it was being done, they went to extreme lengths to prevent it being possible in the future!

I actually understand why they have these in place and why they are okay. The FC one is to keep emotional people from doing dumb things. I agree with the GC transfer costing, but not sure why I do, same with the transfer stuff. The limited amount of time to reclaim items is to keep people from leaving for a long time and getting items when they haven't been playing for years. Which, to me, makes sense. It's the server's space they are wasting on a game that requires connection to them. Also, I don't want people going over to Siren to buy all the Materia up for cheap and re-posting it for kicks then transferring back to Gilga or anything after they have sold it all.

100% agree. These are dumb.If they are me and I play between the characters I should be allowed to trade things between them. Especially since I own them and pay for them. However, I'd limit it to just ones on the same server. Don't want anybody transferring millions and intentionally imbalancing entire server's market boards just because they can.

This is because of the original job system requiring 2 classes to make a job. Surprised this is still a thing, I can see why it's dumb and forgot it was a thing.

To my knowledge, the only way to buy a game card is through the SE store, which it’s like 5-10 $ for shipping on top of the card, and you then of course have to wait for the physical card to be mailed to you, which *then* you can give your friend the code. Which to me is extremely inconvenient.

Also cards are like 60 or 90 days of time. Which is.... restricting. Should be able to offer 30 days to a friend, or more. Without having to pay shipping. It’s an online game, why should I have to pay for a physical card to be physically shipped for an online game for online gameplay?

Every FFXIV account has an option to restore one item that was lost/thrown away and an option to restore one deleted character, but both of these you can only use once.

I used to pay for my sub with game cards my bf bought for me. I have no clue on which website he was buying them but there seem to be plently of those that sell game cards and you receive a code instantly or the same day at least.

I would rather address stupid little engine problems, like how you can't open certain windows while others are open, or you can't move items while having a vendor interface on-screen, etc.

need to add 'Game literally unplayable' after each of those. Not sure how anyone is able to even enjoy this game with so many needless restrictions.

@RuleofThree: Not everybody is a no-lifer who can spend 20, 30, 40 hours in FFXIV.

They want the casual playerbase to have a chance to be competitive, and the hardcores and no-lifers have proven that they have no self-control. Without the cap on tomestones, you would have somebody in full Genesis gear (sans weapon obviously) in 2 days.

Genesis gear is better than Alphascape IIRC, so if you can get that kind of gear by spamming roulettes, then why run Alphascape?

I'm a no lifer with a 40 hour a week job, who gets to play about 4 hours a day. 7-8 on weekends. But I can't blame your for trying the assumption, it is the standard go to insult for stuff like this, isn't it? posting this at work now, in fact.

Anyway, post deleted mostly becuse this seems like a threat regarding restrictions on the actual account and any alts made, not in game restrictions

Even still....

5x4 = 20
8x2 = 16

20+16 = 36 hours per week.

Just like I said. 30-40 hours per week.

Not all of us have that kind of time to spend.

But I'll leave it at that.

If you buy from the SE store they should send you the code via email. At least that's for the NA store.

I know the transfer is to stop people from jumping server to server making massive amounts of gil, used to see people buy tons of low stuff leave server, then they would be back right after. Some of the others are supposed to stop rmt, we know it doesn't really do anything. Also some of the wait times on certain things are due to an outdated data server, the one they use to constantly keep our items the way they are no matter what, you crash look items still there, your not rubber banded backwards ether. Fc thing was originally to stop people from selling fc's every other day, but people still sell capped fcs and wait the day so that doesn't work ether.

Wow, I did not know that.

I'm still playing Wow, so these restrictions seem weird. They let you restore characters if there is a legit problem, always. Well, there is an "unwritten" rule where if you are someone who ALWAYS has problems then eventually they may say "no." Also, they have a pretty liberal "automatic" item restoration. They cut to the chase, making it automatic so you can do it from the site restoring stuff you accidentally sold, disenchanted, etc. It simply restores the item, exchanging it for what it was taken for (so if you sold it to a vendor, it will restore it for the amount of gold it was sold for.) I'm not sure what it does for something you disenchanted? I guess you'd have to have those shards/whatever currently (or get new ones, of the same shards.)

HA! Yeah, the thing about not being able to open some windows, while other windows are open, is also odd. There are many such things which are hard for me to get used to; They just seem purposefully backward.

I also did not know about the not being able to mail your other characters thing, that is pretty backwards considering Wow has had that forever. It makes a bit more sense in FFXIV, since you can do jobs yourself (making alts not as needed), but it is still weird.

My biggest gripe with restrictions is how cumbersome Retainers are and the shifting of inventory/selling inventory/trading for GC seals, etc. I have so much garbage in my retainers that i've been sitting on for years doing nothing because I dont want to spend a literal hour running back and forth between a summoning bell and my GC.

But these last 2 points you bring up I dont understand, you have to get to lvl 10 to change from your initial job and if you're a new player, why would you want to change classes within the first 10 minutes anyway? As a seasoned player, you can hit this soft cap in literal minutes so I dont really understand. And why do we need more gear sets than jobs unlocked? I cant imagine having different gear sets for the same job, is that a DoH/DoL thing? I dont craft/gather so I wouldnt know.

For example when you want to start the game as rogue you first have to hit level 10 as marauder or arcanist. Or when you just want to try different classes. And you can't try out crafting and gathering either.

And having lots of gearsets is nice for roleplay reasons, so you can have lots of different outfits you to easily switch into.

As stated already but to go into a bit of depth and restate my reason for posting at all.

There is no need to lock us into a class at the start of the game.

Here are a few reasons it’s pointlessly restricting:

-if you’re a new player and decide you DO want to change jobs. You’re likely to think you’ll have to create a new character. Which most people spend quite a bit of time doing so this could be quite discouraging.
-you might want to start crafting/gathering immediately.
-you might find a guild that isn’t your starting job and not understand why you can’t join this new guild, then feel like you’re restricted to one class per character. (Which I have seen a few new players say that they weren’t aware they could change jobs.
-you are locked out of NIN/Rouge longer than needed.
-you can’t instantly create gear sets to role play on a fresh character


Basically what I’m saying is the restriction serves little to no purpose, where as un-restricting it allows for a much more fluid and enjoyable experience. And this specific one you are asking about, wasn’t a restriction in 1.0, so it was added in 2.0. For what reason I said beyond me.

I’m also not a fan of being able to buy 3.0 and 4.0, and not being able to unlock the jobs or travel. Sure, some of it is story based, but Yoshida himself said when creating a super easy weak monster open world that he wanted people to be able to explore without restriction. The obviously went back on that by restricting locations even when starting in Limsa not being able to travel to Ul’dah/Gridania and vise versa. Yet another needless restriction.
