I'm rather glad that it is becoming a thing again. Along with that there have been plenty of new legitimate players to enter the server breathing life back into FCs and the server itself. Things had gotten so horrifically stale there for awhile that I wondered if it might not be better to start checking out other servers. Now it's far more like its old lively self again, and I've even noticed the MB moving quite a bit faster again on the lower end mats.
This. I'll gladly take a few RMT tells over going back to the months long drudgery with no new faces, staying only because I had too many friends to leave behind and a genuine enjoyment of the community we have on the server. Particularly on the roleplay side of things, which yes har har you can get the 'erpmung' jokes out now. Some of them might actually be funny. Besides unless they did something drastic to the servers or made it so they could handle more load, the biggest servers are bound to close eventually once more and eventually all the RMT bots will have been reported. Let us have a few more weeks to get some fresh blood onto the server before that happens however.
Welcome back to the world of regular servers, get used to it.
Balmung asking close up?
Is this real life?
IMPOSSIBRU!
RMT: Showing you that your server is finally stabilizing!
Whoulda thought that could ever be a somewhat good thing?
It was closed before?
I've heard stories about Balmung. Heard that there are bodily fluids everywhere, that people rut in the streets like pigs, etc etc...
That's not even a fraction of it. Still missing things like a brothel on every housing block, furries running rampant, and you don't even wanna know what they do to us lalas over there....
Honestly though, Balmung isn't too completely terrible. Just don't go to Ul'dah. Ever.
I still haven't seen any RMT spam since I transferred to Balmung towards the end of HW. We really need to stay open so we can get some new blood and help keep the markets lively.
So far I've blocked about 1 RMT shouter from Limsa daily (don't really linger in the other towns, so not sure how those are). I've not had any direct RMT /tells, and that's with me staying online/afk a good portion of the day. Not saying the RMT spam isn't there, just my personal findings.
I'm happy it's open - even at the cost of letting some RMT/bots in. The place feels so much more lively, and those who wanted to join friends/family, or maybe just give Balmung a try, can finally do so.
I'm sure it'll close up again soon though, so get your people over here now :)
Aaaahhhhh yes, yes... A symptom that the server is resurrecting. I'd love to see Balmung in its former glory.
Oh no, not an RMT spammer!
Only time I encounter them on my server is in Limsa. I barely notice them anymore. Far cry from when I started playing the game and would get a whisper every 2-3 mins (if not more).
God no, keep it open and don't hard lock it until the server is literally about to melt.
I love seeing actual new players in the world again. Feels like I'm actually playing one of the most popular mmos instead of playing on a dying server. :T
Keep it open, I LOVE how actively our server it is once again and the market board is booming.
For the love of the gods, keep Balmung open!!! We need fresh blood onto the server, especially within the RP community. Last time it opened we barely got an influx of fresh faces before it was locked again and the community remained completely stagnate.
Most of the characters made then were just alts for the people who are already on the server. Leave the server open and let us deal with a queue if we must! It's worth the lifeblood of the community!
for love of god close it again keep it close you know that ppl that are in other servers can move theres with good gil buy anything they want then take the items back to ther server sell it for more it bad keep Balmung close that why the market board are booming lol
That's $36 dollars and change, USD, to do that even once. Balmung is not a preferred world and thus it costs money both to come here and to leave. Not to mention the hassle of first converting all your gil to items for transfer to get around the 10 million limit for the character and 5 million per retainer, sell them, and then repeat the process. If someone has that much money to burn I'd question it why they're bothering on such a convoluted process that isn't even guaranteed to net them money in the long term.
but everything in balmung is lower pirces (U_u-) so it easy to do most ppl will do it
It still costs $36 to do it, as we're not a preferred world. People aren't going to throw that amount of money around for something so convoluted unless they're whales and a whale likely isn't going to bother with it. They'll just find an RMT seller and put that money towards simply having more gil instead of sinking it into a transfer fee.
but i have the money if i want do it i would lol
Given how low the gil caps are on transfers, you essentially have to exchange not-balmung-gil for balmung-gil by buying and reselling items. This will take their inflated value of not-balmung-gil and reduce it down to its equivalent purchasing power in balmung-gil. Additionally, as a seller, even if someone actually did what you suggested for some ridiculous reason, I'd be all for it. After all, it expands the market I can sell to, increasing demand and raising prices. The only people who would be hurt by something like that are people on Balmung who barely interact with the player economy to begin with and only buy things when they do, but their game poverty is a consequence of their decisions anyway, so there's no reason to care about their inability to afford items. They aren't entitled to said items simply because they want them.
Having given some thought to moving to Balmung lately (decided against it due to the gil transfer cap and the state of housing on that server) I looked into the prices of items and the general value of gil on Balmung vs Midgardsormr. At least in my case Balmung gil has roughly 2x the purchasing power of Midgard's. I think you can get back for free if Balmung is still classified as congested and you move to a new/preferred world but I don't know if the 90 day transfer restriction would still apply. Long story short, it's not worth the hassle because of the price to move in the first place, the chance of being stuck for 90 days and then no guarantee that the items you're loading up on will even be worth the gil you expected them to be when you get back.
Keep it open, lmao. People in novice network and shout chat were saying yesterday it felt good to see new characters run around and that the marketboard was moving at lower levels.
Balmung can have all the players it wants. On the condition those asking dont come here and cry about being stuck in a 4 hour que during the relase of the next expansion.
Actually, please make Balmung a preferred server so I can giggle over threads like these. I look forward to this thread's sequel: "non-rp names are ruining our server."
I've enjoyed seeing all of the new players flooding into our server. It's a great change of pace and I feel like we can all breathe again. Lol.
On the other hand, I haven't received any RMT whispers for a long, long time... currently, I've just noticed bots either appearing/disappearing in hoards at the aetheryte crystals in Limsa/Ul'dah/Gridania, or some slight /say and /shout RMT spam. From there, I just tend to report the infraction and move on.
Balmung is like a black hole at this point. Virtually no one leaves, and the more massive it gets the more people are drawn to it.
I'd like the doors to be open to let some new faces in, but I also know they can't be for long. Every time the gates open, tons of people flood in. Many just to be 'part of the meme' that is unfortunately our server's stigma.
Ya, SE auto kicked people for being afk to long at one point didnt really hurt the long que times much. Problem will exist so long as more people are trying to log in then log out. Like with Heavensward and Stormblood it is going to be a problem again for servers like Balmung.
I started this as a joke thread as I haven't gotten a tell yet and my hubby only one.
But ya I agree with most of what has been stated.
I forgot to log off the other day. I was afk for over 2 days which service no one.
There is no reason a auto afk kick at me 1 hour should be in this game.
They don't normally have the AFK Auto kick turned on.
They usually activated during like expansion launches.
They had it enabled for stormblood launch, but people were exploding flaws in the system to prevent them selves from being booted off the server...
The servers have a maximum capacity, after that they have to wait for someone to log off for another player to log on.
With people exploiting the servers were constantly full, or at least the biggest ones were.
You'd have queues of four or five thousand people that didn't go anywhere.
There were times I would login to the launcher get into queue, then go off with my family too go eat and do stuff like shopping or cleaning up at Grandpa's house, and then when I got home for 5 hours later I've been online for 15 minutes.
When Square Enix started forcibly logging everyone off the server before primetime, there would still be queues of four or five thousand people but those queues would go through in half an hour or so.
Because the people who were exploiting have been removed from the server and the people who had gotten on the play got off when they stop playing.
Tbh I don't get the hype surrounding it. I made this alt back when Balmung first opened up earlier this year I believe and tbh it doesn't really feel all that welcoming in comparison to the other servers I'm on. It feels very "cliquey" to me. But I assume that's mostly just how the RP community is in most games. Idk I'm not an RPer. So I'm not exactly sure what the draw to the server is other than population. But even so I feel like I see more people doing things on Cactuar and Sarg than I do Balmung. Then again I feel like half of the people I do see on Balmung just sit in Ul'dah or their private houses so maybe that's it lol.
There is RP on Balmung? I left, because I could not find RP on Balmung...like...ever. Saddened me, cause I believed in the comments.
We are usually stuck in here together staring at each other with no new people for months at a time so that is why there is no welcoming committee. Sprouts are usually an alt of someone you already know unless it's the rare time they actually open Balmung.
I've never even heard anyone on my server complain about a log-in queue. Most if us are just afk standing around fashionably hoping for something exciting to happen and would much rather have new players and meet new friends.
I will say though... The novice network is always pretty chatty lol.
This is it, this was the whole problem. Once they started the rolling restarts of the server, my longest queue was 15 minutes, quickly being reduced to ~5 minutes and then eventually to no queue at all.
Balmung hasn't had a real queue since the last housing rush, and that was like a 7 minute queue if you were still attempting the race but weren't really on top of hitting that play button (sat in the queue, and still got a house for our FC), and even then it was only for that window at like 5AM eastern.
I'm freaking terrified of my server being quarantined off because a bunch of people are creating alts (has no effect on server load), or because the bots are trying to capitalize on the availability (taking server access away from legitimate players).
So yeah, please no knee jerk closures, SE. Let me meet new people, and invite friends who are looking for a new MMO to play with me.
Protip: if your queue is less than 100, it is a fake queue. Leave it and try to log into that character again. It'll bypass the queue, and save you from complaining about how there's always a 10 person queue at peak hours.
Yes please close Balmung. We need a new "open Balmung" thread!
