Proposed Wolf Collar System Update

Goal: To increase and encourage PvP activity through better long-term permanent rewards, as well as foster a winning mentality in players.

The Wolf Collar system has great potential but currently feels underutilized with the current rewards. With a few changes, as well as more rewards, the system can serve as a fantastic foundation to incentivize more players to participate and actively stick with PvP.

Many players feel that Top 100 is an unachievable goal. If they are incentivized with better permanent rewards through the Wolf Collar system they may be more inclined to stick with PvP in the long term, allowing for better player retention.

Proposals:

1. Allow wolf collars to be obtained from Ranked 4v4 Feast match victories.
10% or so drop rate on victory. (Maybe allow losses to give collars for a lower chance?)
1 collar on successful promotion series completion.
Potentially exploitable through intentional deranking / ranking up. Maybe try to only allow it once per tier? “Next available wolf collar for Plat, etc”)
Keep current end-of-season collar distribution by ranking tier and Top 10.
Bronze 3, Silver 4, Gold 5, Platinum 6, Diamond 7, Top 10 get 10.

This change will allow players to continually build up Wolf Collars throughout a season by simply playing and ranking up. It adds an additional sense of progression to PvP as you will be building up a currency to buy special and unique rewards.

2. Add more Wolf Collar rewards.

Hellhound weapons (What we currently have)
10 Wolf Collars each

“Wolf Collar Exclusive Edgy Armor Set”
5 pieces total. (Head, Body, Gloves, Pants, Boots)
5 Wolf Collars each. 25 Wolf Collars total.
Similar in edgy aesthetic to the Hellhound Top 100 armor but different in design. This is to ensure the armor from Wolf Collars matches in style to the Hellhound weapons.

“Dangertek” Orchestrion scroll.
3 Wolf Collars
Hype new Culling Time music. Who wouldn’t want this?!

“Victorious” emote.
7 Wolf Collars
Static toggle emote (like /stepdance or /sit) allowing for AFK and indefinite use.

Cerberus Mount
15 Wolf Collars
Boss in World of Darkness. Maybe consider his armored / chained version with Feast coloring on his helmets?

POTENTIALLY allow for Wolf Marks to be exchanged for Wolf Collars.
15,000 Wolf Marks = 1 Wolf Collar. Main idea is to encourage players to play Feast but also offer an avenue through general PvP to obtain rewards.
Might contribute to botting problem but offers casual route for people.


3. With the proposed changes and additions, players will now have a plethora of rewards to choose from when PvPing. It will encourage new players to pick up PvP due to the variety of rewards the Wolf Collar system offers, and will retain and reward veteran players too.

8 new Wolf Collar rewards.
50 Wolf Collars required for all rewards.
Accelerated Wolf Collar generation through winning in Feast coupled with already existing distribution methods.














NERF PLD

Honestly I like most of these ideas, but the wolf marks exchanged for wolf collars I'm not too sure about. My biggest problem with that, is that it allows people to earn wolf collars through frontline and not through feast, when the incentive should be to get more people to do feast. Frontline already has a healthy enough population to the point where matches pop every day.

The other concern is botting, you'd be able to bot the wolf collar rewards MUCH easier and faster if this were the case.

I agree, we defo need more rewards for wolf collars specifically. Also more uses for wolf marks would be great with a much higher cap, buying ventures for example would be amazing to exchange currency in.

A cerberus mount would be amazing! I'd love the one from Anemos. Also hellhounds. Can be different than the originals.

(Also, great idea. Have always discussed with others a way to make collars more useful and methods of player retention via challenge log or other methods.)

I really like the idea, I also was really disappointed when I réalised rewards were for the top 100 is a bit too much for basic reward. Il not against special unique reward, altough top 100 is very few people...

I however have the feeling people would quickly get al' the reward quite fast.

So unless they'd add new armor every patch or so, we will eventually run into the same problem.

I also kinda like the fact that every one start on an equal basis in ff14 pvp, but the lack of actual progression is a real bummer.

I'd also like to be able to specialize with unique skills. Unlike pve where you always have that one mathematically optimal rotation, pvp could definitely benefit from some sort of talent choice or something, and by that I mean proper skill, more than "recover mp / dmg reduction" once a minute. While these are nice they are quite bland.

I'm all for this.

I was big on PvP back when there were consistent rewards for me to work towards. It was the Garo event that lured me into trying PvP and I hunted down every last title, mount and glamour. Being able to do that again with a similar long term goal that isn't dependent on being part of the extremely high ranking players each season would be lovely.

Yeah i was thinking they should make the hellhounds for general public look a bit different so you can distinguish from the top 100 winner and the general public one

They should make the old rewards attainable by players that make Top 100 in the current season. That would be awesome. ^_^

Anyway, like the OP, I feel that the Wolf Collar rewards need to be updated. And I suggest it should be with items that will make others' heads turn.

If the future Wolf Collar rewards are weapons, MAKE THEM GLOW. I still have Wolf Collars on my alt that I want to spend, but nothing is there that I'm interested in. O.o I want something fancy. XD

Make Wolf Collar rewards that are very attractive to the general FFXIV player!

I think there would be more players queuing Feast for Wolf Collars if the rewards stick out. I think adding mounts, glams, and hair styles etc. would be a good idea too, but so long as the items stick out.

So now the boosters can sell 11 seasons worth of rewards in just 1 boost? Looks like they would have even more business than usual :p

Of course this won't happen if the team at Square Enix become able, efficient, and effective in enforcing their rules and regulations. Boosting in PvP is grey area, thus these players can get away with it. Grey area in a sense that the rules and regulations are not enforced, as it's difficult to prove any wrongdoing.

But if the GM's are enabled (or have the means to prove guilt), then they can do something about it. *I'm suggesting the devs give an ability for the GM's to GHOST QUEUE PvP after reports of cheating/griefing/boosting.

But that's on another forum topic here in the PvP section. XD

Also, winning previous Top 100 rewards, in my suggestion, can only be a decision for 1 season only. If you make Top 100, you can opt for the new gear... or instead choose an old one. Just 1.

Until they fix feast rewards i think imma not bother or not try during feast matches, putting effort into something and not getting anything out of it is one of the worst things i can imagine.. i agree with OP if SE wants people to actually STICK with feast games and TRY to win rather then afk or low effort (me) they need to incentivise it and make it worth actually trying in the first place or we will constantly get people that cheat or just don't care (yeah i just want the glam gear idgaf about feast, sue me.) and it will continue to be a problem as it has been for the past year.
