What is good about Eureka?

I would like to ask something so i finally understand. What are Eureka good points? Why people do it? I went there and tried a bit. But its the only content in this game that I feel neutral about it. Its like im washing dishes or sweeping the floor. It leaves me cold.

Why the developers did this? I imagine there are two things to consider. Rewards and fun doing it. But i dont understand either of them so i would like if someone please can explain it to me

This is my opinion on what's "good" about Eureka, but:

1) most of Anemos' landscape and aesthetic design.

2) when we are in there having fun as NOT INTENDED, you can see, in shout chat, how the best of the community brightens up, because we're making so many jokes, trying to keep one another alive when someone falls, and so forth.

3) puns, puns, puns, especially in Anemos (but Pagos isn't sleeping on the job either)

4) Vast potential for content that COULD be fun for most people, instead of "fun" for a select few. It's a shame that that's all it is, however - potential.

5) It finally provoked some people to say what some of us have been thinking since the end of the Animas line; enough is enough with Gerolt. Let the man pay his dues so we can move on without his damned bar tab. *Glares at Rowena* For that matter, it'd be nice to move on without her.

6) The Notorious Monsters, especially in Anemos, are a quick-ish way to cap weekly tomes if your level is high enough.

Aesthetically, it's beautiful.
It's also helping me get caught up on all the Netflix shows I've ever wanted to see.

But it's really the only thing that makes it slightly tolerable to me is that I can go in with my friends and we can all laugh and hang out together. I mean, we're all developing arthritis simultaneously from light farming, and we'd have fun no matter where we are in the game, but at least in Eureka we get to laugh at each other's deaths more.

I don't know about others, but to me it's the fastest way to cap mendacity.
Also much quicker to farm crystal and upgrade gear (at least in anemos, I haven't stepped into pagos) instead collecting tomes for 100 years.

I quite like the treasure hunting it bit of Pagos, not so much the overly-long fate you have to do to get the bunny though. (also, it needs better rewards.)

Anemos is a beautiful zone, once you can walk around it a bit without getting brutally murdered every three steps.

It looks pretty :]

1) Capping mendacity (in anemos on the NM fate train)

2) Socializing with people!! You shout for groups, and usually invites are instantaneous. Then if you have a particularly friendly group, you can have a fantastic time making jokes and chatting with everyone. I've made a ton of cross-server friends in Eureka. (I may not talk to them often since it's impossible to tell when someone is available if you're not on their server, but I remember them!!)

3) It's an adventure, especially if you're not at level cap. Eureka is incredibly dangerous if you're traveling. Coming from EverQuest, where one wrong move could end in a brutal corpse run on top of exp loss, I enjoy the challenge of exploring the map. Anemos wasn't terrible for travel but Pagos is even less forgiving, so I do find myself wanting to stay put even if I also want to help people who need a rez.

4) Scenery. So pretty!

5) Part of me hates it but I always hold out hope for some cool stuff from lockboxes. :<

6) Relic upgrades.

7) Bear puns. Or unbearable puns. Take your pick. I love puns. 10/10, would joke again.

8) I'm one of the people who occasionally conducts the trains in Anemos. It's actually quite fun to do with the right set-up. (Fellow train conductors, I salute you!) The FFXIV community has some tremendous coding talent and the tracker site is incredible.

Helping people has never been so important and fun. I could spend the entire session running around raising people and porting them from NM to NM.

I decided to give up on Pagos but I had fun in Anemos!

- I liked the map design, I thought it was beautiful and odd/bizarre but in a good way!
- I loved the fact that the whole instance had common goal, instead of breaking into small groups and camping.
- I loved that my level didn't matter and that I could take lowbies with me without damaging my gameplay.
- I loved that no matter in what forgotten place you died, someone would come to res you, me included :) That was always so heartwarming.
- All the shouts and chats going on!
- Bear puns, all the puns!
- The truckload of lockboxes. I play a lala, I'm a greedy lala. I like treasure.
- I could easily cap tomes there, so I didn't feel like I had to sacrifice a weekly in order to do Eureka.
- I loved that I could idle... -hides from a tomato!- Wait, hear me out! As someone who works full time in the art industry, I found that active play in Eureka caused me a really bad wrist pain in roughly 2 days. I couldn't afford an aching hand the next day when I needed my right hand in perfect shape! I hate being idle in game but yes eventually reached a point where I had to be one of those idle ones who /cheerjump while their hands rest. Despite going as healer, I loved helping collect mobs or throwing dots around but I learned to take it easy and I loved that I could take break without damaging anyone's gameplay. I would stay aside and heal/res, throw aeros where I could or go save some unfortunate dead soul somewhere in the middle of the map.

Well, Anemos gave me three minions, a barding, and a mount from a bunch of lockboxes. I also got a fancy Pazuzu decoration, some XI glamours, and a bunch of shiny weapons for each of my Job Classes, which I'm still working on getting the last four of. I already have the feathers and necessary crystals. Just gotta get those last four Jobs to 70.

Basically, what I'm saying is that Anemos rewarded me for the grind. It was long and boring and honestly, I fell asleep a number of times, but it at least felt like I got some nice goodies for investing my time, and I appreciate that.

In contrast, I have literally nothing positive to say about Pagos. You are not rewarded for your time, even though you're expected to invest far more. The layout of the area and enemies is spiteful. The story hasn't progressed an ilm with only mild adjustments to revelations we obtained in Anemos being added. It is a significantly worse experience and one that feels as though it was made that way intentionally.

Worse yet, there are Triple Triad cards only obtainable in Pagos. If you're a collector and haven't been keeping up with the Relic Grind, congratulations, enjoy grinding up at least 33 levels just so you can get a chance of getting Louhi's exclusive drop. Maybe. If RNGesus feels like you deserve some mercy.

Pretty sure Rowena is going to be here to stay. They've already established she has a wide Aetheryte network, so we're likely always going to be going to her for Tomestone related matters, and she'll always have some stranglehold on Gerolt until he makes the Relic Weapons for the last expansion. Maybe even after that point.

That's just how the joke goes, like Gerolt becoming a super awesome blacksmith once he's had a few drinks. It's kind of like how in Dragon Ball, to use a different Japanese series as an example, Bulma can basically boss Beerus around by virtue of knowing some foods that he would like to eat.

I ask myself one question to see if I consider Eureka a success or failure. That question is, "Would I be here if the relic wasn't tied to it?"... and that answer is no I wouldn't. As nice as the place looks it's a god awful grind where the reward is barely worth it as it is. Though it IS something to do at least I suppose.

I like the story. I was really curious about the island of Baldesion and it has Krile. And the weapon is kind of nice too I guess. Other than that its pretty much just a scrape away what enjoyment you can with others and give feedback and hope SE doesn't automatically think that the western audience is just challenging their authority like a grade school teacher and do the exact opposite of what their customers want.

Anemos was fun in a way because people worked together. Pagos was a shit show because Yoshida had it in his head that if we didn't play the way he wanted he'd make it hell. Which fortunately didn't last long since they buffed the train.

Eureka was a great idea.... but its execution was an enormous waste of resources that hindered the rest of the game. I pray SE never tries something like it ever again.

Yeah, still find the story interesting here that I keep myself working on the progress.
I am curious of what happened to the Isle of Val in its full extend after it disappeared during AAR.

In Anemos I liked:

1. The social aspect: everyone was friendly and chatting and helped eachother out. There were jokes upon jokes in shout chat which promoted a healthy gaming environment.

2. Common goal: In anemos everyone had a reason to do the train so everyone had a common goal in which we worked together to accomplish. Sure the actual gameplay of Eureka was boring but the fact people worked together to accomplish something as little as spawning and defeating NM, that is what made it tolerable.

3. The Relic Weapon: realistically this is what most people are in here for, and tbh if the relic was not apart of Eureka the content would surely be dead if it isnt already.


However With Pagos I gave up on Eureka because it highlights everything that is wrong with Eureka . Instead of making things better they instead made everything worse.

It looks pretty. Anything else was unintended by design.

I like the FFXI glamour. And minions.

Missed opportunity there's no "Frozen Dead Body" title for Pagos.

1) Role skills and Crowd control (except for knockback...? ;-; ) become extremely useful. You get to use skills that dont really see the light in raids, like Erase (cleanse rustbite for spawning louhi), leg graze and stuns from Low Blow/Leg sweep. Sleep and repose are godly.

2) Its a great place for learning mobility and damage upkeep. Northern Dragons are like a bootcamp for BLMs. Generally good for learning rotations and how to execute burst on alt classes.

The Exploration aspect. I love how the world is dangerous. I like to explore maps but in the regular world danger isn't a factor because we can fly and whatnot. But in Eureka, things can kill us once again we no longer have our 'God' power thus the feeling of struggle returns. Especially if you like to explore the map ahead of time. And if you die and no one comes to rez you, tough luck. Even when maxed, you still aren't safe. I've deleveld from 35 about twice so far. I know this is probably a very personal Point of view But it's definitely one of my top reasons why I like Eureka.

It's what final fantasy xiv 1.0 should have been from the start. I get happy..... But then get sad cuz it was scrapped in the end.

Nothing. Honestly I wish they'd just stop making relic weapons if this is the best they can do.

And this is someone who made a 1.xx relic. I know how to grind.

It's pretty and Anemos had shout chat. Someone might say that the relic is a good point, but we're forced to go there for the relic. So that's not really a point in its favor since we have no other choice.

It looks nice and some of the NMs are fun to fight, but visuals and boss fights have always been strong points in XIV to me.

None of the things that make it unique compared to other forms of content are very interesting to me, and most of them are tedious and/or annoying (Monsters having insanely long leashes and dealing ridiculous amounts of damage if even one level higher just make it annoying to navigate the zones and discourage soloing and exploration). As some others have put it, it's basically everything people hated about old school MMOs with none of the stuff people liked.

Beautiful place to visit, death at every side, plenty of targets to practice your DPS ...and not much else.

Pagos make some effort to segregate the train, but everything else was utterly lackluster.
Especially the ilvl of the elemental weapons, at Level 370 it will be superseded by Genesis tomestome weapons by a good 20 ilvls.

It's also missing a lot of the tools. I roamed everywhere I could in EverQuest. But as an enchanter (or my druid) I had run speed increase, levitate, invisibility, and mez (sleep/repose here). It was still dangerous, but the game gave you tools to help mitigate it and still get around if you were smart. Pagos fails on that entirely. Though some of that is on the players. Sleep and repose would be more valuable if other players would allow it to be used. But they often don't and just attack the mob instead since FFXIV has conditioned them to burn everything down.

I, well... I like the furniture and barding from Anemos I guess. Never got the mount after probably thousands of loot boxes, though. Despite my FC/raid linkshell mates attempting to run it the last few weeks, I'm still far too apprehensive about Pagos to subject myself to that instead of doing anything else in the game that could be more productive, or at the very least more fun. The only reason I would continue with Eureka is the possibility of eventually upgrading the relic weapon to its final form when the last map comes out later, as apparently it's supposed to be better than even the final raid weapons of the expansion. But for the time being, it's just a huge, mindless time sink for what will essentially be glamour until that point, and I'm having a hard time motivating myself to bother with it in the first place.

I’m actually really enjoying Anemos. I like how there’s an incentive to make parties with random people you wouldn’t normally, and just how much more communication there is in general. I like that the world feels dangerous; you can’t just waltz in to any area you’d like. And if you’re playing like me and mostly doing CL/mob grinding, I like that it takes a bit longer to unlock things; makes it feel more rewarding when you do.
