How the app should have launched.

No app features locked behind paywall. Everything but chat should be locked behind having an active subscription. Our sub + mogstation purchases should be more than enough to pay to keep the service running.

Premium plan should only lock the Saddle Bag expansion and additional retainer. Pricing should be adjusted to reflect what it offers(even in it current state), $3~4 max. What is currently offered for what is asked is just ludicrous.

Remove ‘Kupo Nuts’ and ‘Mog-Coins’, freemium and F2P gimmicks are not welcomed in a subscription based mmo.

New system for auction house:
Daily Limit of 100 actions per day, you can not buy more. (list, buy and adjust prices. Removing of listing doesn’t count towards limit.)
Allotted limit does not carry over. Use it or lose it, resets on daily reset.
Each listing cost: 10,000 to list, 2,000 to adjust, 2,000 to unlist. (Gil sink of 1 million gil per day if only list.)

There are alot of missing features in the app that just screams it was rushed out the door.

Ventures, character switching, FC integration, proper search function, live server communication, etc.

Or just no app at all really...


I mean, the game has so many limitations that should get looked at beforehand, inventory issues being one of them and yet what does SE do? Release an app with an extra retainer service.

So yeah, no app is the best app, atm.

How the app should have launched:

By the time they announced it... it should just have launched by now.

But I'm not a fan. I don't think they should lock a saddlebag behind the fee (we have a truckload of achievement points gathering dust, let us buy something USEFUL like a Saddlebag with it), the character limitation is bad, and maybe it could have updated info a la Libra Eorzea.

As it is, it's pointless IMHO.

Everything it does it does poorly. It's like the devs don't even know what point of having chat in the app is. It's so you can contact people in game when you can't be in the game (e.g. letting your FC know you can't make it to the raid tonight). It should interact directly with chat in the game and not require people to have the app.

Extra saddlebag space should not be locked behind another subscription.

Semi-related: How much you wanna bet additional glamour plates and dresser space will be locked behind a paywall, possibly an additional fee related to this app?

That's no bet. It's just a matter of when. They'll probably do a first "free" glam dresser space increase as a show of good faith, then lock extra space for a monthly fee.


After all, why invest more money in a game to improve its core engine and infrastructure when you can slap some f2p services on it and call it a good day?



Especially when your playerbase metric forecast shows there's a great chance of players who will take part of those services.

imo they already did more than I expected to help inventory during SB. they increased inv/armory space as much as servers can handle, added a saddlebag for even more space in a less server stressy way, changed the max item stack from 99 to 999, added a dresser for gear, added a storeroom to apartment/house for furnishings. If all those things and having retainers isn't enough then I think people would just always run out of space no matter how it is addressed by hoarding too much. oh, and they moved ventures, tribe tokens to currency window. they've done a lot.

When I mean inventory issues, I'm not talking about global space here. Inventory issues in ff14 encompass alot of things but I'll just point the first three that comes to mind

-Bloated token currency. They started with some. They need to take it up further. A good move on their part would be when 5.0 comes out, all raid tokens are given their own space.

-Speaking of glam dresser, it'd be a nice move to code at the very least mogstation outfit to be put in armoires. As for ingame gear, I'm thinking at least double the inventory space we have but for each gear slot.

-Mat bag. There's been 1001 and suggestions on how they could implement that, ranging from organizing by type of material to having separate space, etc and etc and seriously,etc. Basically, the ideas are there and they are good.


And I have to stress this again: the inventory issues are just but ONE of the MANY limitations SE just seems to love to use whenever you ask for basic improvements. Improvements that are already mainstays in other mmos either from the beggining or at least added within the first, oh idk...FIVE YEARS?

So yes, I agree, they've done some good steps. But every time they say they can't do something basic because "limitations" and then they release something like an app with retainer service, I have to question these "limitations".

I think at that point you have to wonder why a Triple A company struggles to get servers to support constant actions? Anyways like someone else said its basic deflection. The fact of the matter is they have never addressed their rushed ARR reboot and have left many systems to get worse and worse over time with each patch compounding what should have been a small hill into a giant mountain. It should have been expected that they would slowly try and hammer out the kinks over time to eventually get to a point where basic wants from the community shouldn't have been riddled with limitations but as the App proves that as long as there is a way to monetize it they'll find a reason to not do it for your meager sub cost.

FWIW, it's not servers, it's the netcode and data storage structure and methodology. That's why it's such a "mountain" at this point - so many things are built on top of the shaky foundation that it's the highest of high risk jobs to change now. It's basically "tech debt."

WoW had a similar issue with its inventory and glamour system that took nearly 12 years to entirely fix, so it's not actually that uncommon a problem. Of course it's incredibly frustrating and nobody likes to hear about the reasons a company you're paying can't accomplish something. (If anything, the problem is that the staff here have been more open than many about the technical limitations they face to the point where it just frustrates people since it sounds like "excuses" -- even if makes sense to the few software developers in the audience.)

Tbh I forget I even downloaded it half the time. My only soul use for it is keeping up with free company events.
