Yes, but Ascians are perennial bunglers. Next time they just need to slap an Ifrit costume on it and tell us it has shinies. We'll take care of that island for good.

Also, with the way the Eureka story is going, we may get some big revelations in future content that drastically alter our understanding of exactly what happened to it. Or we may not. It's hard to say, though SE is usually pretty good about tying up loose ends, including ones so old we had forgotten about them.

There's no real equivalent trade at work here. Most good things we lose in nuking Val are Gerolt and Krile; so if we evacuate them rq nothing of value is lost at all.
