This is a strait merge where a small world is merged with a larger world and there is no freedom to choose where you end up. Easiest most strait forward option.

②A + B - X ⇒A World to merge with B World, except people that would like to move are able to choose a different World


Very similar to option 1, this is a strait merge of 2 worlds but everyone has the option to move to a different world if they prefer. This is most likely to keep connections with people but still allow the EU players to group up on a set world.

③A + B - C ⇒A World to merge with B World, except people that would like to move are able to choose to go to C World


Just like option 2 except players on worlds A and B only get 1 other world to choose from rather then being able to choose any world.

④Prepare 10 Worlds, set a limit, and give everyone the power to move their characters to a World of their choice.


This is the choice that was chosen for us already and is currently in the works.

So that we can see if SE had given a poll what the response might look like? to find out what option most ppl want? to help SE make a positive change? I prefer all options 1-3 over option 4 that they chose I would like to see what others think.

Polling this forum doesn't mean squat, you don't have enough of a sample size.

All these ppl complaining about the server merge are insufferable. Its all about you isn't it? Not about the greater good or what's easiest for SE.

Ever think why they'd move everyone to new servers? They just did it to piss ppl off right?
How about they did it to retrieve servers so they can prep it for the new engine? Kill two birds with one stone, merge servers, reclaim, update, prep for 2.0? Could be any other number of things. But screw SE right, its all about you - you're the paying customer. SE should appease everyone all of the time.

This merge has near zero impact on how you play this game. If your friend won't follow you to your server he/she really isn't that close of a friend huh? Or you could make new friends? Wow that's a thought. Reading some of the hyperbole is stunning, like teenagers everything that happens in this game is zomg end of the world. Gimme a freaking break.

SE should just close the forums, near no good comes from it - suggestions can just be submitted to them via email or a suggestion form. This place is just an outlet for mob rants about anything and everything.

To me, none of these options mean anything if we can't see the server names.

agree, it is such an important decision, and they should force the poll before you log into the game. so all active players can see it. (same to how they gave out the warning about subscription)

The greater good would come from shutting this POS down and fixing it quickly w/o dealing with these crappy mini holiday events and 24hour primal release day rush's then 2 more months of nothing.

Haha this shows how little you understand from programming and server structure. This option does not offer them anything more then option A except a MONSTER headache to code. They chose the HARDEST option to deal with and the MOST work in the backend. Like Yoshi said option A is the easy one it requires almost zero overhead and guarantees the outcome is exactly as they plan.

I'm not an MMO expert but I was pretty sure the gold standard was option A and usually games allow you to server merge on request for a fee. Option 2 is basically option A + free server transfer ticket if you want it (so the smallest groups can all gather on 1 server German/French/EU).

This is the most activity in the forums since they were opened on day 1. That alone shows this is a serious topic worthy of discussion. Without player feedback we'd have no FFXIV at all as it would have ended with the abysmal launch from 2010. Like it or not many changes are direct ideas from these forums. The reality is this period were in is nothing more then a paid beta, I have no issue support the development of the game for 2.0 and I only hope they deliver something amazing and not the current casual POS we got right now.

Server 1 , Server 2, Server 3 , Server 4, Server 5, Server 6, Server 7, Server 8, Server 9, Server 10.

when you say "I play on Besaid" it's the same thing as saying "I play on server 8"

it's not like SE is going to present us with 10 blank boxes with no descprtion beside it, then makes us put a check mark in one.

Yeah they will get names after we're locked in, but in the grand aspect of things it doesn't matter what your serer name happens to be. You'll be playing with the people you merge with just the same.

What a surprise, the most logical option is winning in two polls.

Really, if Yoshi wants to make it option 2, all he has to do is make a recomended list for what servers would do best where, and default the options if a character does not choose.

Heck, half of that can be done out of the game. Just give us a list of where we're recomended to go so my friends and linkshells arn't randomly splitting up into new servers.

#2 Right, because development restricts merger and vice versa.

#3 ROFL! clone from multiple - copy to new is the hardest option? Right! So which part of server programing or server infrastructure do you want to discuss? Yeah I have absolutely no clue. Why did Yoshi opt for plan QQ instead if plan A is the holy grail?

#4 I dare say no one has issues with reading feedback and opinions. But is so much vitriol and disdain mixed into the feedback needed to show the displeasure? If its such a POS, if its so stupid, if the dev are so god damn incompetent, if Yoshi is so full of himself and the bane of everything he touches. Why stay?

Read Yoshi's post again. He mentions option 4 being the most difficult to pull off. He also mentions it was a last minute choice between 2 and 4. It looks like the majority of us think's he just made a mistake.

Because one mistake a ruined game does not make.

He's going to see if they can go with option 2 now and adding idea of 4 into it - guessing players can go any server if they want and not capped?? They will confirm this one early next week :)

I don't know why people keep complaining. The worlds are number, just pick a number and have everyone gather in that world. If you or your friends refuse to go to the same world, then you don't care about each other to be called friends.

And if you have LS A going to world 1 and LS B going to world 2, but you decided to go to world 1 with LS A and complain about getting separate. You make a choice to go with LS A, it's obvious that LS B is not important.

Ninesunz I have 10 years experience in server programming, I have a BS in computer programming, and a BS in mathematics. I am the lead DBA on a server with thousands of concurrent transactions and hundreds of users. Option #4 is a nightmare to deal with trust me I have no idea why they would put themselves through so much work.

And as already stated they are going to do option #2 afterall barring any major technical limitations

Obviously you do not understand everything either, some things you mentioned does make sense that they are freeing up servers in order to make room for the new engine but then why would they choose to use the most costly option of all of them ? they stated that option 4 would ultimately cost the most to implement so if they just needed room to get stuff ready for the future why not use one of the least costly methods ?

Could not agree more Nine. IF they change this based on "feedback" I will be pretty dissapointed. Especially since only a very small percentage of players use these forums at all. The only way to get an ACCURATE count of what ALL the players really want would be to have another player poll. Even then I don't know how accurate that would be. Be a leader for once Yoshi P, and make a decision and stick with it. Stop trying to pander to what every crybaby in the world wants and just do what YOU think is best for the community.

I don't think you really saw the feedback of the Japanese community.. They were going crazy over this decision. Every Post made on a thread had like 50+ Likes. I don't think Yoshi is just basing himself on this thread, nor the poll. The Japanese feedback is way bigger part then us.

I could care less which one they choose as it doesn't impact me at all, I was interested in what ppl thought. I had bias toward option #2 for the only reason being that I assume the ppl who I played with at launch would not end up on the same server as my LS choose. Even then its a very small # of ppl. I prefer the outcome is balanced # of players on each world that is important to me.

So Yoshida decides to re-evaluate the other option that he was debating ANYWAY and now people telling the complainers to stop complaining start complaining.
