Just give us new server names

Dear SE,

Let's face it, the reason you're hiding the names is because you want the community to spread out evenly among all servers, which is understandable. But as you can see, no matter which way you handle it, the communities will always try to stay together. So why are you hiding names?

I understand that if you kept them hidden there would be less of a chance for all players from one server to move to the same server after the merge. But you're forgetting that for some people their server name is as important as their character name. Some people chose their server specifically because of what its name meant to them.

Solution: Make all new server names and keep them visible.

The communities will still try to stick together, that's inevitable no matter which way you handle it. But at least with new server names we can choose our servers by name and not by chance.

You won't please everyone no matter what you do. But if this problem is solvable without any real casualties, why not?

I think new server names would be good. The past should remain in the past, and that includes server names. With new server names, there will be less of a reason for people to do this "5elbina" and "7rabia" crap. In with the new, out with the old.

I agree i think new names would be best then i be less mad if other world get selbina and i get stuck with a name i don't like because it not selbina.

Server 10 should be named after a Mystic Quest town, I bet that place will be a desert.

They could use the names they used in Beta!

I agree: New server names please. It just will semi-solve the 'but I love my current server name!' problem. However, it won't fix the 8esaid-ish kinda things. People are still going to try to 'claim' a new server as their own. Human nature.

Also, can we make the different names of the 12 God/Goddesses the current server names? (yes i know it currently leaves 2 out...but those can be added back in at 2.0...SE can even set them aside as 2.0 growth servers). I mean, I know it's a crazy idea to have the server names stem from something that is part of THIS FF's lure but hey, I'm willing to go out on a limb :P

I disagree.
But that is my right.

Well the whole point is so that people can choose their servers by name, not by random chance. By changing the server names, whole servers would be less likely to move together which is exactly what SE is trying to prevent. Hidden names work for this, but it sucks for those of us that choose our servers for their names.

It may not mean much to you, but some people do care.

Ah! Didn't see this topic or I woulda destroyed half of mine. Transit and work at such an interesting time.

Since i don't think SE as a company could possibly go back on their decision to merge this way now that they have announced it, the best way to fix this biggest yet deboccle of FFXIV would be to name the servers ahead of time anyways.
Then all the (example) Lindblum players will flock to the new Lindblum except those who CHOOSE NOT TO.
