yes it would be nice
of course they'd have to remove the spikes from au ra hair but its not that hard
Would be Great
no, we need MORE race specific stuff, not less
stop trying to destroy what little identity the races have left just because it's current year
I think it depends. Some hair styles are shared between races, but locked out of others. For instance, the long hair female Highlanders and Au'ras can have can't be given to Roegadyns or Elezens. Hair like that should be given to all races, but I still think some race exclusive hair should be kept that way
Not to be the devil's advocate but this argument works both ways, specially with the ludicrous foothold of "do you also do it irl?". The game already has "racial restrictions" and there is already one hairstyle that shows how certain hairtyles would need "racial adaptation". And that easily opens a whole other can of worms.
They already have issues implementing generic things and still fumbling (gear designed mostly for female characters) to expect a good outcome in asking them to "fix" something like this.
The only races with racial identity are miqo'te and au ra and that has nothing to do with their hairstyles. The rest of them are culturally homogeneous and living in mixed-race city states where their only distinguishing features are their size and naming conventions.
they should unlock SOME hairs at the very least. Such as stuff aldeady shared between 2/3 races. I can see some hairs being cultural but there are quite a few normal styles that are just locked for no reason.
I would like to have not only hairstyles but walk, run, stand, sit and sleep animations unlocked for all races!...
It would be up to each player to decide how to build their characters using a free combination of all those characteristics, from the cutest Miqo'te to the classiest Lalafell it would be a dream come true!...
I don't see any reason why this can't be done!...
I would love more race exclusive hair styles.
it's not about the cultural identity but the visual one, like emotes and stuff. Also race exclusive means that the devs can actually spend the time to make the haircuts truly fit each race, instead of all the new unisex stuff that often only really looks good on 1-2 of the races/sexes.
The basic models are already so distinct that hair really can't add or take away from that. They have separate emotes and body shapes, so even if they're fully covered in armor and have overlap in heights, it's obvious what you're looking at.
Also, I'm well aware that hairstyles have to be fitted to each model and that takes time, but that's a completely separate issue from the one you originally chained your position to and the one I was addressing.
My au ra looks like an au ra because he has the bodyshape of a coke bottle, runs like he's an action movie, and has horns that look incredibly impractical in day to day life. Giving others the option to use his ponytail would hardly invalidate any of the above identity.
As a male roegadyn I want access to the female miqote /pose.
Bald Miqo'te (including tails) and Bald Au Ra and Miqo'te with Hulk Hogan haircuts
Yeah I can hardly tell the difference between a miqo and a roe. :v
I felt bad just making this just a sarcasm post. Really I think there's room for both parties to be happy, there should be more racial specifics but maybe not so much in the hair, especially when there's such general hairstyles lock behind races. So many of them feel locked arbitrarily just for the sake of having locked hairstyles instead of actually being race specific. The best example of hairs that take their racial element a little seriously would be the Fem roe's unique hairs because it makes use of altered hairlines to add to the femroes features. Even then there's two shorter ones would looks perfectly fine on any other race as well.
More tattoos and facial features (Scars, accessories etc) should be added and be unique to each race, but hair needs to be pretty specially designed to be for a specific race or else you just have Au Ra having straightbangs/hime cut while other races have to settle for an altered style or not having it at all.
Our characters all look the same when they are from the same race (most of the time there is only one or two faces that look good, same for hairstyles), unlocking all the hairstyles would allow us to have more customization to make our avatar unique considering we don't have that much options compare to other games.
Plus, it fits the lore, we are playing traveler, it's logic that considering we are in contact with other races, we tend to adopt their codes (pretty much like how our stuff are based on the region we are in)
Seems to be about the limits of the character creator. Every face has five options in that submenu, which could be scars or makeup or earrings or thicker eyebrows or whatever other ideas they think of. Au Ra options are mostly taken up with different scale arrangements, which is why they miss out on other sorts of extra customisation.
Each race's animations come as a set for other races* ( no edit post button?)
Yeah we really need this. I find it odd that in an RPG, so much of your character is defined for you. Doesn't it go against the entire point of the genre, at least when you have customized characters?
Just imagine if reality was the same way. Only people from a certain city would do their hair in a certain way and everyone from this city would have the exact same mannerisms with no variation, while a neighboring city would have their own completely homogeneous mannerisms with no variation at all. It would be really really weird. Giving races their own unique identities is fine, and even preferable to having them all be bland and identical, but the way the identities are applied to player characters in the game isn't really interesting or convincing in my mind.
Might as well ask to remove races altogether. Maybe establish a point to have different animations per race to create certain "personality" types. Sleep already has a change pose option.
It isn't and there are certain cultural customs that are endemic to areas in the world that other places can't/won't imitate simply because its cultural.
Go ahead unlock the aura ones with the little horns. Think they a little weird on another race. Still don't see why they even have race locked hair styles.
A region/culture/population as a whole doesn't reflect the specific behavior of all the individuals that comprise it though. Most Miqo'te may live in tribes and be hunters, but that doesn't prevent any given Miqo'te from being adopted by Midlanders and raised as one. Racial identity doesn't imply complete conformity, nor should it if it's trying to be convincing.
Total uniform behavior makes even less sense when we're looking at player characters in particular because we don't live in a cultural bubble. We travel everywhere and interact with different cultures constantly. It's not unreasonable to think that we might take an interest in some parts of the cultures we interact with. It's the NPC's that should present racial identity the strongest. Players should get to represent themselves/their characters.
Its less about it having parity with the real world and more about fitting the setting. You're going into extremes to bring a point, and I understand exceptions are not out of the ordinary there is also a limitation of design relating to race. Like someone posted above, auri hairstyles have horns on them that add 'flavor' to them. Miqote ears limited certain hairstyles from looking as well as they do on other races.
We're outsiders, welcomed and accepted in the concept of 'hero' which is a carte blanche in its own right. We're the nameless, race-less, genderless hero and by design: an 'out of place' object. That's what it is, not what it can be.
I agree with more options to "express your character and its identity" but most of the suggestions here are going to an extreme that erodes distinction, rather than promote it.
