Seems to me like now would be the time to get some sort of movement going to maximize our time and money spent in ffxiv. I am not really one for proposals but after perusing this forum tonight I'd almost want to say the community should take this opportunity to make sure land on a server best fit for you. Obviously there's a few ways to do this but here's a decent suggestion:
World 01 - EST #1
World 02 - EST #2
World 03 - PST #1
World 04 - PST #2
World 05 - JP #1
World 06 - JP #2
World 07 - JP #3
World 08 - mixed-/international groups/Spanish-speaking
World 09 - RP server
World 10 - EU server
Something like this would at least make sense and provide direction where SE does not. Anyhow, discuss I suppose.

They said that server #10 would be recommanded for european players. So far, Spane and UK are parts of Europe.

It just provides direction for the masses. Doesn't force you to choose that server.
Timezone != segregation. You'd be narrow-minded to think that way.
It's much better to have an active primetime than anything else imo. Linkshells with vastly mixed languaes are by far in the minority. Plus they were alotted a server in my outline above anyway :p -

The timezone thing is 'good' in theory but it practice would just cause WAY more problems than it is worth. The sheer amount of people who'd be online and active and trying to do the same things at the same time would just force less people to actually be able to populate the server than if it were open to all timezones. This doesn't even get into the whole timezones=localization and loss of playing with other cultures thing.
Right now, my server stays 'busy' because it has an NA peak time/ JA peak time/ EU peak time. Usually when one group is logging out, the other is logging in. This allows 3 times the amount of people to play on a server without huge lag or over-camping issues. (not that we have anything to camp but you get the idea)
I like the thought though....I mean the whole 'as a community we could organize ourselves instead of 'grumble,grumble' over this' -

Yeah, this idea won't work. If you group up everybody based on time zone, you'll have huge times when nobody will be on.

02-10-2012, 03:50 AMDelsusOk lets say someone sees an EST server, but does shift work, so sometimes they work 9-5, some days they work nights and sometimes early mornings, thier play times could be erratic, servers based on time zones will segrigate them because sometimes they will have alot of people to play with and other times thier server will be dead, its the main thing I dont like about DCUO, because that has EU servers and US servers giving alot of time when the servers are dead.Quote:

I am aware. The reasons for being against it are completely unfounded, irrational, or plain stupid. It's just another remnant of the "it wasn't in XI so we reject it" mentality. If FFXI used regional servers I would never have met half my friends on FFXI. Regional servers should never be in MMOs, you dont wanna play with American's then dont. Lets say for example someone from America suddenly starts to suffer from insomnia, after having no sleeping disorders in thier lives because they had no problems they join a US server, thier sleeping paterns will make them play erratically, so why should they play on a dead server.
Regional servers even unofficial ones are illogical and just cause problems. -

It doesn't segregate anyone. it places you where there are more people playing in your prime time than otherwise, allowing you to play the game to the highest degree each night.
Insomnia? really? That's a strawman argument. Regional servers are imo the best way to organize servers to get the most out of your playtime. That doesn't mean someone from EU can't play on a EST server, it's merely a label, a guideline, to allow players to gravitate to where they will see the most action in their timezone. That is all it is, do not blow it up larger than that by throwing around words like segregation. -

I think people are more concerned about maintaining their current community and friend base over a larger "segregation" concept. Let's face it, at the end of the day I think a majority of people would agree they won't just rather NOT move, or move their server as one.
I fear located here this topic will lose its purpose as all topics in General do. I recommend representatives from each server go to their respective World forum, and there determine where your major LS and player base is going to. Once you have that, come back here to say "The majority of world XXX will be relocating to server 5!"
This is probably the first real thing on Lodestone I believe we need to do right! Saddens me to see efforts here always get transformed to BS. I look forward to hearing what the communities as a whole decide. -

I think in the future, these guidelines may help facilitate new players into time zones according to their availability.
At present, because SE did not begin with this move, it makes it more difficult to propose it.
