As much as I love my NA-based linkshell, I'm not going to deny that it would be tempting to join a more european based server. Sucks going to events at midnight =/
I feel sorry for European players. From my side, they really do appear to be getting the short side of the stick.
Which is ironic, because I'm (Australia) used to getting screwed in MMORPGS with our outdated internet.
i would like a server physically located in europe
400ms ping sucks
I'm from the UK, and specifically won't be joining an EU server. I suffer from insomnia and play at strange hours. Having a mixed culture server with people from many different time zones makes FFXIV an enjoyable experience at any time of the day. Also, why would you want roaming NM's and other things packed with people during peak times? I like it being quieter during 7-9pm GMT.
I'm Swedish on Selbina, and meet the odd European GMT -2/+3. I think it's weird they didn't just slap a EU tag on one server, but instead tagged one for FR/Ger. It's not like those two language groups have some way to understand each other anyway, besides using English or <Miqo'te> <fun> <Do you have it?>. More appropriate to have settled with EU.
I don't think I will change servers, but will stay wherever the LS' I'm in will go, or stay where the LS I like the most will go.
But... If there are Scandinavians out there (SE/NO/DK speakers) that want to congregate on one server, I'm more than up for it. Speak up in this thread if you know what Dalahäst, Pölse, or Osthövel means! Let's organize!! O_o
Im Oceanic and i'll be happy if/when i meet up with the Thanalan Alliance crew
Hi, I started a similar thread...
World Merge - UK and English Speaking EU Players
I'm inclined to just gather on 10 with Germans and French. Many of them speak English anyway and are great people. I lived in Germany for 3 years and had a great time with them. However, the problem is that EU players need to come together if you want to have any chance at having enough of us on to make a successful on line community. I will, again make attempts to form a new linkshell on what ever server I end up on. For now I'm going to plan on "10". If I Chang my mind I'll post. IF the majority of EU players end up going somewhere else then I'll follow. I just figured someone needed to start it off.
Where do French-Canadians go? ^.^;
But I feel that (hopefully) many EU people will also go to 10. This would be a great mix of English, French, German (Spanish!) all together happilly at the same time!
Meh, I am not bothered at all. There are plenty of EU players on my server at least (if you don't burn your bridges with them) and I know there are on others. People don't absolutely need to be consolidated into one server if you like playing with multiple people.
I am sure everything will turn out fine.
Unless something changes and they tell us server names TA are looking at Gysahl = 6ysahl atm. :D

Nuuu!! Finns are awesome! Brotherpeople ftw!! :D
I was merely pointing out I'd love to also play with people that are mutually intelligible through the Scandinavian language family, since we wouldn't have to use a secondary language to communicate and idle. Nothing about ethnicity at all ;) . Of course Finns should join in this movement! It will be good practice for your Swedish lessons. <_<
Finnish people don't exist!
i would be staying away from world 10 because it will limit the number of ppl i could talk to i don't speak french and German
a lot of them know how to speak English , but more cant or refuse to
+ communications are even more difficult if they run the game it self in french and german because they will have other names for most things
This !!
I would consider joining server 10 if there is a decent English speaking community.
You are somewhat missing the point, its about finding people in your time zone to play with, nobody wants to stay up til 4am to do Moogle and Ifrit.
I've purposely stayed without an LS since my raid group left for Star Wars in mid December in hopes I would find a new EU server with the mergers. This is kinda disappointing to find out the EU server is only being labelled FR/DE. Hopefully I can figure out a plan.
At the end of the day all I need is a hardcore raiding EU based linkshell which is up there with the best on the server. If those fail to materialise on the server I end up on then I'm as good as done with this game. I've no intention of joining an American based LS again. Raiding from 1-4am is incompatible with working life.
Well, first of all I'm German but I am not happy about that SINGLE EU Server!
I also don't want this one to turn out as one of those servers where you read those "JP only" etc. shouts...
As I said on the German Forums, I don't want to live with that solution of 'server merge'. What if you and your friends choose a server, which happens to be full later on and just a few weeks later another friend wants to start playing FFXIV with you?! Is he screwed then?
I really hope they won't do it that way. Still want the solution of picking two low populated servers merged into one...
We might join another server instead of #10, but actually I don't want to think of it yet.
One of the charms of XI and XIV is no matter what time zone you play in, there will be people online to interact with thus having a designated EU,asian, us etc server population would be a terrible thing for me since my playtime can wary alot between weeks.
Which is one of the reasons I dislike this server merge system as it will segrate the population alot and there will be very dead servers outisde of peak times.
Actually I'm trying to find all the Finnish players in XIV to gather around in one server. There's about 6 active players in Kashuan and the rest... I have no idea where are they.
Edit: Well not just me but my LS overall are looking from all different places to find enough active finns to do stuff.
In certain servers you can't find people in your timezone at all, having to join NA Linkshells for example... Which is what Jinko said, what's the fun in all the variety if for your timezone there isn't people at all and you are nearly forced to play at horrendous times?
I'm EU but I definitely won't go to Server 10 but is easy to understand the problem of certain people like Jinko.
Yah but doubt ALL EU will go to that server, there is many EUs that will go to others for variety due to prefering that and others that prefer much more europeans to play with and give priority to that over everything else will go to server 10, is just a matter of preference and opinion about this server I think.
This issue really needs to be covered by an official devpost, it might kill the whole purpose of server #10 if not done. Most of EU players are already turning away from this server because they see it tagged as FR/DE only.Quote:
Then you would see that people have stated that is more then likely for all EU and not only tagged as French and German. ^^; (Translation mistake, etc etc)
I am aware of EU shells being on international servers but the fact is that on an EU server the majority of shells will be EU, so i don't have to go looking through the community pages here or shouting in Ul'dah for hours to find a decent one.
People vary just as much in one region as they do all over the world, we aren't mass produced ya know.
I wonder how you EU players put up with this kind of thing in every game you play :/. Seems annoying.
Do we know if the #10 server will remain tagged as EU after march ?
In the NA Lodestone letter, the server is very clearly tagged as FR/GR. It's not like someone mistakenly typed France instead of EU.
They are clearly catering to a linguistic minority (albeit, one significant enough to call out), not trying to create time-zone based servers.Quote:
New World 10 is recommended for German and French-speaking players. German and French-speakers form a minority within the total player population, and this should improve their playing experience and make it easier for them to get together and form parties. However, it is a recommendation only. The World will not be restricted to German and French speakers, and players from other regions are free to transfer to the World.
