I don't SEE any horses! - The Lore Team Responds!

The Lore team has been keeping busy and responded to a few more questions since we last heard from them. A player pointed out that there exist horse stables, but there aren’t any horses around. I’ll let the Lore team take it from here!

So while it may seem like there are no living horses in the currently accessible areas of Eorzea, there are in fact horses when you consider the entire planet of Hydaelyn.

Hyur and Lalafell travelled to Eorzea long ago and it is because their ancestors utilized horses as mounts that you can see remnants of this in their speech and crests.

So… why aren’t horses imported in modern day Eorzea? The reason is that trustworthy chocobos, that are better suited for the weather and environment of Eorzea, exist.

Yeah, who needs horses when you can have unicobos anyways?

I guess this COULD explain the prospect of rare mounts Yoshi mentioned.

It would be nice to see like, an ancient unicorn/horse type creature as a mount.

I don't remember if there is another instance of it in the game, but one of the leves mention draft horses being eaten by giant toads, so they must exist in present day Eorzea, right?

To the lore team and design team please don't make the mistake that was made in ff13 and 13-2 and give Sleipnir only 4 legs.

Would be nice if [the pre 2.0 subscribers][players] had a choice of mounts. I would have picked up a horse type mount over a goobue ahriman or drake. Nothing wrong with putting a bit of reality back into the fantasy.

And? Odin never had one eye in any FF games anyway.

While we are on the subject, i was checking out the concept art and it looks like Odin's horse Sleipnir (or however you spell it) is missing a few legs. Someone should get on that.

Give him a thousand legs.

Like the meaning of roegadyn's names. Voidkin explanation previously stated in other threads.

Unicobos... like I said earlier.

First addon expansion called "Horsefeathers" will go into more detail about the war between the chocobos and horses. This war has become known as the Steed War.

FFXIV is probably a larger scaled project than we all assumed.
