connection problems with MMORPGS and FFXIV

Looking for some help concerning my problem. I have 60 mb fiber internet for about a year and up to last week i didnt have a single problem with it.
But suddenly since last week i have been having trouble with it. I cant log into FFXI anymore, cant log into Rift anymore, WoW works fine and FFXIV does let me log in, but the connection does not seem to be stable. The S in the upper right corner keeps going down to 7 every few seconds. I have contacted my isp and they say that everything is working as intended on their side.

Does anyone have an idea what the problem could be:confused::confused:

You didn't get a new router by chance did you, or are you plugged right into the modem?

run several tracert to the game server too see if its a network/isp issue

Nope i have been using the same modem for a year.

sorry for the noob question, but how do i do that?

press win+R, type in cmd, press enter
enter tracert <server IP> into the command window and let it run by pressing enter.

I don't know where to get the server IP though.

Looks fine so far, try doing more of them and look for any lines with an * (which means it times out)
On a side note, i'm kinda happy to see you have the same latency as me even though you're on fiber. I kinda thought fiber had much smaller latency.

Let me guess, you are from the Netherlands, have UPC as your provider, using a Thomson TWG870 router and the problems started around the 1st of February when the router got a new forced firmware update to version 01.41?

More and more people are reporting this problem, but UPC is still ignoring it. People are having trouble with FFXI, FFXIV, WoW, Rift, LoL and even games like BF. I called them twice today, explained the problem, did some tracing, pinging and taking screenshots and lots more. They made me trace the servers of both FFXI and FFXIV and both gave insane packet losses at the last few hubs. That made them say it is not their problem, since they are responsible for only the first few hubs (up to aorta in your tracert) and the other ones are not their responsibility.
They keep claiming its server side. So I asked them if they seriously think all those game servers are all of a sudden gone bad, while it is obvious everyone started having trouble when they forced the damn new firmware onto the router.

I beg you please call UPC, post on their forum (UPC.nl and also Chelloo.nl) and use their webcare twitter service and simply keep calling them daily .... That is the only way they will maybe, just maybe, understand it is on their side and this has nothing to do with WoW, FFXI or FFXIV.

Edit: When you startup POL to login to FFXI you can press network settings and then ENABLE network check (or something similar to that). That does not solve the problem, but it makes it able to login more often at least.

Thank you very much for your reply, now i know at least where the problem lies.

You are correct on everything. Netherlands, UPC, Thomson TWG870 router, problems started recently.
I will call them again and check those websites out.

I just called UPC and the dude told me to look for a CD that came with the router which lets me configure the router, like opening ports and stuff, but i doubt that will work >.<

It has NOTHING to do with forwarding ports. The problem is that they refuse to understand this is not a problem with just ONE game.

I have reports from people playing FFXI, FFXIV, WoW, LoL, BF. It happens on PC and PS3, all those people have in common is UPC, the Thomson router and the new firmware update. Yet UPC refuses to sort it out, since it is not their problem according to the helpdesk.

They were going to call me today since I made a complaint yesterday, but they didn't so far. So I am going to call them tomorrow again to see whats going on.

Did you try the trick with FFXI? It seems to work for me, still have some trouble sometimes, but its better at least.

I just called them again. They finally accepted the problem. They are sending a tech guy with a new router (CISCO) tomorrow.

They was that I also mentioned FTP problems. I am not really using FTP at the moment, but it seems like that is a problem they seems to accept. So I told them that I am having trouble staying online and/or connecting to online games and that I have trouble with getting timeout when I use FTP.

Just tell them you read that the problem is accepted by UPC and that is why you are calling again. Good luck.

You welcome! Hope this fixes our problems! They even called me a bit ago saying they are trying to find out what is going wrong, so I am tracing/pinging the servers and taking screenshots for them now so they can trace the problem :P

i also having the same problem....suddenly i cant log in to ffxiv...got stuck in version check and also aion free to play cant log in but weird starwars working
