Looking for Sch 50+ tips

Hello all. So I took on sch and I must say, this job is amongst my favorite. It feels really strong and I've gotten into the habit of placing my fairy. Unfortunately because I've restarted from square one with an alt, I did too much, and now I'm level 58 in patch 2.5.

I'm worried that I'll get overwhelmed with the new skills when I unlock HW. How should I tackle healing? Is it much different from how I've been treating it so far? Follow up post incoming because I can't edit on mobile.

Up to this point, I've been mostly going by precasting Aldo before a pull, then when I'm not dpsing, using aldo for every two physicks (in general), throwing out lustrate under 30% hp. That's just my general guideline, not what I do all the time. Can I get plsywr cliff notes for the skills between 50 and 60 and how best to use them?

Level 52: Indomitability — Restores own HP and the HP of all nearby party members. Potency: 500. Costs 1 Aetherflow. Recast: 30 seconds. Has a radius of 15 yalms. - This is your burst AOE heal. Weave it between GCDs the best you can. Best to try and use Indom if you have stacks over AOE healing with Succor, because Indom is much stronger, and repeated Succor usage is costly for your MP.

Level 54: Broil — Deals unsuspected damage. Potency: 190. Replaces Ruin. - This is your new main GCD skill. Use it for DPS between DoT upkeep/healing.

Level 56: Deployment Tactics — Extends Eye for an Eye and Galvanize effects cast by you to party members nearby the target. Recast: 120 seconds. Has a radius of 10 yalms. - Use this for spreading pre-pull Crit-los, or for spreading an Adlo instead of casting a Succor mid-fight. Pre-pull Adlos are best spread from a WAR in Defiance/tank using Convalesence for the potency boost, but can be spread from anyone except yourself; in-combat Adlos can be spread from anyone but yourself (including Eos), but make sure the Deployed Adlo hits as many party members as possible. If they aren’t stacking, I wouldn’t try to spread.

Level 58: Emergency Tactics — Transforms the next Galvanize status into HP recovery equaling the amount of damage reduction intended for the barrier. Duration: 15 seconds. Recast: 20 seconds. - Usually used with Succor (“ET+Succor”) for a Medica-style AOE heal (the Succor leaves no shield, but instead heals HP for the potency that its heal+shield would have been). Can also be used with Adlo for a burst heal on someone.

Level 60: Dissipation — Orders your pet away while granting you a full Aetherflow stack. Also increases healing magic potency by 20%. Duration: 30 seconds. Recast: 180 seconds. - Use this when shit starts hitting the fan, or you need more healing power/Aetherflow stacks available to keep your party alive. Probably won’t see much use out of it in dungeons unless things are really going south.

The thing about sch is, it’s a job that requires planning. Especially with the nerfs they got when 4.0 came out, it’s soemthing you have to know really well to play well. Along with how the fights go and such, you need good timing. Like in one fight before we my group gets hit with a attack that can do 30000 damage I make it where I get a 60% heal boost before I hopefully get a crit Aldo then use spread, the shields take all the attack. So it’s a fun job but one you need to know really well. Experimention is my best advice for sch

Thank you. So I take it that Eye for an Eye is a must-have role action? I've never actually used it for any of my healers, so I will have to slot it and start getting used to using it. I think my cross-up will be knowing the difference between DT and ET, kinda like how I initially struggled with the differentiating Fey Covenant and Fey Illumination before macros. I haven't found a use for Selene yet, except for the pre-pull Fey Wind on trials and dungeon bosses...is that all I would be using her for?

Yeah, I'm noticing that as well - does no one any good if I'm reacting rather than being pro-active. The last trial that I did for my current level was Leviathan normal, so I imagine I still have a ways to go towards being pro-active and knowing how to put SCH to the best use. Still, I'm enjoying the flexibility that I'm getting with this job. It's different from AST.

Forget E4E, there are (imo) much better role actions to bring than one that has a 1/5 chance to reduce target damage by 10% and only procs from physical damage. Even if it's still deployable, E4E has really lost it's place just by being a role action now.

Fey Wind isn't going to see much use outside of trials I'm afraid. You can bring it with you in 4 man content but only when you're certain you don't really need Whispering Dawn in said content. I like to bring Selene anyways to the Heaven-On-High 4 man instance as I see the value of having Fey Caress to cleanse silence debuff more value over Whispering Dawn. Fey Wind and Silent Dusk are bonuses.

One thing to point out that SCH's playstyle dramatically changes once you hit 50, 52, 62 and 70

Lustrate(50)
At 50 you're introduced to Lustrate, which at first many people will treat it as an "Emergency Heal" instant cast ogcd when they really should be using it as their actual main heal source for single target healing. This means you should be using more Lustrates than physicks/Adlos in content that don't require any crazy planning (most outdated content). Of course it's still a great skill to use in actual emergency situations, but most of those stems from someone stepping in an aoe when they shouldn't be anyways and even then, knowing if they'll die in the next 3 seconds or letting your fairy embrace them back to full health is crucial to being a good sch. Btw, this does not mean you shouldn't be using Adlo/Physick anymore..

Indomitability(52)
Strong AoE heal ability to compliment Whispering Dawn. Like Lustrate becoming the main healing ability instead of physick/Adlo. Indom is like Lustrate in that you want it to try to replace Succor for just general healing. The same rules apply, whatever can be regened through whispering dawn should be regened and not indomed. If there's no dawn available you can indom instead. If you have neither then you'll fall back to Succor.

Excogitation(62)
Your new Lustrate. Pair this with Lustrate to use even less Physick/Adlo on single targets. Take note however that this skill applies a buff on a target and will only heal the target when they fall below 50% hp. If a target was on 50% and takes damage that one-shots them anyways, the excog will not help.

Fey Union/Aetherpact(70)
It's like focusing embrace on a single target, so even less healing you have to use on single target. It's not crazy strong but it does a good job of keeping the tank alive in big pull situations. Pair this with excog and lustrate and you really shouldn't need to use physick/Adlo at all.

Special Mention given to Dissipation which gets rid of your fairy and refills your aetherflow stacks back to 3. In end-game content there are places where this skill can be used for min-maxing your damage output but as you're leveling just keep it somewhere on your hotbar in case of emergency where you really wish you had aetherflow on you right then.

All the above I mention are how a sch gameplay changes from 1-50 and through 50+. Eventually you'll stop having to cast heals and use instant heals instead to replace them. Still there are times when you still have to cast Adlo/physick/succor and that's fine, but by aiming to reduce the number of heals you cast, you can use this time to do other things... things which I shall not mention here less it sparks another debate.

They didnt mention DPS which is something you will want to do if you get a chance and your MP allows. It can help dungeons move faster and save your tank from taking a beating longer than they have to. Shadow Flare also has a slow effect on any enemy within the effect so remembering to use it on large mobs will actually help your tank survive. Both Sacred Soil and Shadow Flare can be seen as useful damage mitigation. Although Sacred Soil has very few places where it is the optimal use of an Aetherflow Charge.

ABC : Always Be Casting.

Oh I didn't mention DPS, because I do it when no healing is required. I can understand those skills pretty well. Learning sch on the other hand was a different story, but with the information that was given here, I have a pretty good handle on the job up to level 58. Using aether flow for helping was different, but I like the feel of it.

Treat eos as an extension of yourself and use her to cover as much healing as possible; frequent use of rouse and proper timing with dawn, covenant and illumination will help with this. If eos is unable to handle healing on her own fall back to your OGCDs. Scholar OCGDs paired with eos should cover for almost all healing done by you in 90% of the situations you're in. If both eos and your OGCDs aren't enough, fall back on your GCDs, but make it your goal to use as little as possible. When you get fey union and excog this becomes extremely easy; with union being the strongest regen in the game lasting as long as 30s (heals for 10k+ per tick) and excog being your strongest single target OGCD heal.

Dps-wise don't use ruin 2 to weave a single OGCD, it's actually more potency to clip a broil than to ruin 2; it becomes a potency gain when you weave 2 OGCDs with 1 ruin 2 though. If Mana allows it always weave with miasma 2 unless you're clipping it with itself. Always keep your dots running but never clip them earlier than they fall off (in most cases); if you clip a dot with 3 seconds left that's one dot tick and one broil you just missed. In AOE situations get your flare down, bane out and straight spam miasma 2.

Sorry if I'm straight regurgitating information but just listing things to consider off the top of my head.

You won't get overwhelmed so long as you give yourself a good amount of time to become proficient with a new skill. As an example, there are some fights that will force stacking together right after a mechanic that separates you (eff you Zurvan), so the pre-emptive tactic is to cast succor and place Sacred Soil right in the middle of the platform since that is where everyone is going to end up anyway. This allows you to dodge everything and not have to worry about mitigating the last incoming hit because you, as smart and conniving as you are, decided to place pre cast Succor and place Sacred Soil before this set of mechanics even starts, knowing that the duration of each is long enough to stay up through all of it.

Playing SCH optimally requires already knowing the fight. Simple as that. If you don't know what's coming, then what separates you from the sheep SCH is recognizing that a mechanic you don't know is familiar with one you've already encountered, and adjust accordingly.

If you haven't already. Learn to place your fairy and not just leave it on heal. It makes a rather big difference in many cases. Yet dont often see people do it. And then watch the tank die as the healers are too busy running to cast.

Fairies however are immune to most mechanics so a well placed fairy will still quite happily stay where it is and cast embrace on the tank even if the scholar is running laps around the arena dodging mechanics.

A fairy on heal can't do anything if you're moving because it moves with you.

It's probably been said before, but Always Be Casting. In addition, you've got to really learn to trust your faerie, know exactly what she can do, and be able to rely on your Aetherflow cooldowns. Scholar is at its strongest by far when you're using your tools to bypass the need to heal. Just remember that Adlo and Succor are there for a reason as well, so don't neglect them completely. It's all about balance.
