I want Blitzball!!!!
Many do, not sure it would work out though how would it tie in to story? or even Gold saucer?
The last thing I heard was that they're still trying to figure out how to actually implement it in the game as far as it being similar to FFX as a team simulator or having our individual characters form teams with other players. This was a little bit after SB was released...I forgot which article I read that from.
So I think it's definitely a thought but nothings been made official.
Last thing we heard was they were contemplating on making where we as a player play or we do the whole squadron type deal and just be a coach of a team.
Last it was mentioned, they still have no idea how to implement. Hopefully, it remains in development hell instead of taking up resources for something that'll die within two days.
YAAAYAYAAHA, BLITZ BALL BABAY LET ME HAVE IT
I can tell you the one way it won't work, which is if you just never attempt it in the first place.
If you have multiple ideas, then you go as far as you can with each without having to commit, and then if you don't have a clear answer then you put it to some kind of vote.
Unfortunately they just don't have enough confidence in themselves as developers for Blitz. Yoshi has said they have no idea how to implement it successfully and was contemplating the "safe" option of making it a squadron table to click. FF14 has far too much "safe" content. If that's the best they can come up with I'd rather they didn't bother.
If it's just going to be another 'menu' game then I'd rather they not implement it at all. The main Final Fantasy games have a wealth of excellent mini-games to choose from. I'm baffled at the reluctance to simply implement them in FFXIV in their original forms with the only difference being making them 'fit' into FFXIV's game world.
Take the Chocobo Hot and Cold mini-game from FF9, for instance. That could easily make for a neat attraction within The Gold Saucer. We could use our Chocobo to dig for treasure and earn things like allagan pieces, materia, minions, crafting materials and special treasure maps that lead to rarer rewards such as unique glamour and mounts.
I want Blitzball yes, but the real one and not the manager-type they were thinking about!...
Blitzball doesn't really need to fit into the game's story as nothing in the Gold Source does, at least most of it doesn't, they can give away bountiful rewards to keep people's interest but it has to be accessible enough so casual players like myself can have a chance to get the best prizes too!...
I found the original Blitzball from FFX really fun to play, it became trash in FFX-2 with the manager-type change so I really don't want that to happen again, SE can include both game modes if they can't decide, I don't even need to play with others as long as we can play against NPCs like in the old days!...
IF you want real Blitzball go play FFX otherwise would help giving ideas on how to incorporate it maybe help giving a story.
Example; maybe finding ancient ruins of with a magicsphere recording the game or exploration of Zanarkan and being found by the pirate confederacy. A quest were you collect a small story kind of how you did in FFX and having a NPC in game requesting for a new sport for Doma.
PLEASE LOOK FORWARD TO IT.
I would rather the SE developer team look at fixing the content that's available right now (eureka, old area gangreen, vertical gear progression, potd, hoh.....) rather than spend time making a Blitzball game. Contract it out to some indie developer and throw it on a mobile app.
this was the latest news about blitzball https://mogtalk.org/2018/03/31/mogta...ews-yoshida-3/ under Misc.
I think Yoshida is right in what he says, most ppl will get tired after one play. I think he knows us more than we give him credit to
Make it feast type competition xD 6 vs 6.
Should Blitzball be 2 dimensional (x-y axis) like in FF X or 3 dimensonal (x-y-z axis)?
Should a player controll the whole team like in FF X or only a single character in the team?
Matches against NPC or against other players?
With a own level of the player/team to level up?
I can't imagine it being fun.
I imagine it with a lot of limitations, lag, long queues, a thing that we can't take a laugh of.
Even the "snowboard" mini game that they want to implement. If the chocobo race was that thing... I was really expecting a "mario cart/Crash team racing" vibe, but meh.
I have to echo those who have said they would rather the developers focus on either fixing content that needs it (e.g., Eureka), or making something with some longevity to it; something not so incredibly niche. Stormblood has been full of niche content in most patches that, if you aren’t one who enjoys the current niche thing, you are left with very little to do during main patch cycles until the next update that features a major type of content (e.g., Deep Dungeons, Eureka, Ultimate, new Savage tiers, etc.). A patch cycle with MSQ, a 24-man, a new Ex trial, and then a piece of niche content just doesn’t last long enough for those who don’t enjoy the niche content, or who cannot make use of it.
The last time we had one of these threads, it basically went down the "don't bother with it if it's not going to be an actual minigame, no more menu ventures"
As it is, I'm someone who tended to skip all the mini-games in the FF games, part of that was that they never felt like they were part of the game (remember that FF8 chocobo world thing? I had the PC version and let that run for a few days and then never opened it again.)
I didn't care for the triple triad and the FF9 CCG either. I didn't care for the Blitzball game in FFX, but at least there was a reason for it. Still didn't play it.
Like there are things in FFXIV that I don't bother with, because either I see the time-sinkiness of it being deliberately wasteful, or people won't even attempt to play it and they rather win-trade (LoV, PvP) to get the reward rather than play it.
Like I know I rail on cheats all the time, but good grief, why do people bother paying for a subscription game, only to suck the fun out of everything so nobody else can enjoy it. I hope Yoshi-P puts some serious thought into how to combat "win trading" type of rubbish gameplay in the existing mini-games before rolling out a new one, because otherwise it will be suffer the same fate.
I agree with the beautiful Lady Park. They need to focus on fixing content. Shake things up maybe. Eh, I hope things may be different by next expansion at least. I honestly wish they would add the Merit, and that other system, FFXI has, but I guess that would be a content balancing nightmare if they did, unless done right.
Blitzball would be another thing I don't invest time into just like Chocobo Racing, Lord of Verminion and Ultimate.
That's just my opinion on it though.
Nostalgia be damned, blitzball sucked then and it would suck now. That game was never fun and having it just to have it is pointless.
Hence why, like some others, suggested to add strategic turn-based mini games in the gold saucer instead of blitzball. That seems far more doable. It could have bi-annual updates to it and the rewards could be mgp-based.
