Come 2.0, what will happen to our Companions?

Will they they vanish without mention? Suffer a tragic, but forgettable death during the transition period? Will they remain integral to the future storyline? I'm real curious, since they are more or less the deuteragonist of the game.

I believe they've said the existing storyline will continue once the 2.0 business is taken care of, so... I'm rather sure they will continue to exist as normal.

I'm bumping this. Since this subject hasn't seen much thought or mention and we are slowly approaching 2.0.

I'm hoping my companion will continue in the story.

But on top of that, I really hope they will become an Adventuring Fellow like in FFXI. With it's own side quests and battles.

i hope companion become like npc in FFXI where you can use them for soloing and have them as a tank if your a mage or if your a tank a healer or dps :)

My companion's announcement to avenge her allies in an assortment of animated adventures and aggressive altercations against imperial authority allude to her alliterations surviving the armageddon to come.

But... I suspect many have a miqote companion.

They will sacrifice themselves to save us in a cutscene of epic proportions!

....and then we'll get a REAL companion to replace them.

I did hear that they intend to make the Path Companion callable in the field, but it feels like I heard it a year ago. Maybe we'll see it soon.

I'm more interested in Minfilia. She intrigues me because she's such an important figure without ever showing up in battle. I want to see her again and see her endeavors bear fruit. They ended the Main Scenario on such an incomplete note it'll haunt me not to know what's next.
