(RMT) Boosting Is Becoming Quite An Issue

Hello everyone.

Recently, an issue of players boosting others to high ranks in the leaderboard has become apparent. These boostings are typically done by the user giving their account info to the booster after a RMT has taken place, that player will then play on their account gaining them the ranks.

For example, this season in Aether it has become especially bad. It is fairly obvious that one user is being boosted to the top 100 ranks. This user is brand new to PvP, people playing with in custom matches too where they played solely DPS and Tank. All of a sudden, they started playing SCH at an incredibly high level overnight, gaining +687 points in a single day. Something which is not achievable by any average player, much less one that only started doing the Feast this season and playing suspiciously like a user who publicly advertises himself as selling these boosts.

As a community, I hope that there would be some more clarification on these boostings being looked into. If you cannot catch the booster, then at least doing something about the person buying the boost to unfairly gain ranks in the competitive Feast mode, making the ranks worth less. I imagine this could be done by checking IP login locations, especially the differences between when they suddenly have a huge rise in rank. Punishing the user who would buy the boost by banning and surrendering the rewards would help immensely in discouraging these purchases and help keep the board more legitimate.

For the sake of keeping the mode fair, competitive and fun, I really hope that you all in the SE team can take a good look at this issue.

Sorry but, SE follows a strict policy in which they doesn't accept screenshot and/or other evidences outside from their very in-game log.

I'm not quite sure what you're referring to as nowhere in the post was it mentioned that they should or "we" are offering evidence for them to look at outside of the in-game log.

And I'm aware of that myself, having been part of the PvP community since 2.2.

You should document when you see then playing normally, and then suddenly when you see them playing the different class at the different skill level. This way the GM can look at the skill log and maybe the IP addresses too as proof from their own end.

They have access to the IP address they can tell and see what other account has been logged in.

Boosting is cheating, and cheating should NEVER be tolerated. We have players here that dedicate time and energy to earn these rewards.

Boosting should be a permanent ban, especially since it is an inherent and essential component of RMT.

I feel that this problem should be addressed, especially with a major PvP event coming soon. We cannot have our PvP community plagued with cheaters and RMT if we are to promote competitive Feast.

This Problem has been here for far longer. All of this started with Season 3 Cause people noticed that Wintrading and the use of 3rd party software didnt get punished (Hi@ speedhacking Tank with quadrillion medals) Then people started selling Ranks even more often and more obviously. If i remember right there was a Player on Aether once that got boosted to Rank one, obtaining 800 Points in a single Day. So thats that.

The problem has existed for a good while, yes. But in much smaller scale. It's really started getting out of hand recently.

I won't name names of the well-known offending booster, but his name closely resembles 'Buncle Bacid'.

This is definitely something we need to address going forward with PvP. Thank you for posting this.

It's extremely disappointing seeing the same people get away with the same crap season after season despite tons and tons of reporting, especially when certain individuals advertise their "services" on streams and RMT sites, sites I'm sure SE is very aware of and yet seems to do nothing about.

Surely the same/similar IP logging into multiple, completely separate accounts all from different locations would be enough to set some alarms off but apparently not.

It's been years, SE. POLICE YOUR MODE ALREADY.

I really want to get into the PvP scene and see how far I can get in the rankings. Yet it seems like every time I try to climb the ladder I'm faced with people deliberately throwing or just engaging in very suspicious behaviour. It's really killing my motivation and a lot of people I know just don't want to touch the game mode at all, even if it's purely on a casual basis. I also haven't had much luck trying to find anyone to take me under their wing and give me some pointers, so it sort of feels like an exclusive club already but it's made worse by the unfortunate fact that some people are there through dubious methods.

I don't think low ranks are really feeling the consequences of win trading, but this is definitely an issue that needs to be addressed.

Man, what kind of person who
Only started playing this season
Using SMN and PLD has
Now suddenly become
Top ranked SCH gaining over 800 points in just 2 days
At the same time not talking to people
In game while it was happening
Now why would he suddenly stop talking to me and even log out when I ask if he wants to help write a SCH guide.

Boosting really is becoming an issue and this season there has been more than ever.
Exactly how can this game grow and become more competitive if blatant cheating like this is not monitored properly.
All of it is also very discouraging for players who are trying to grow the community only for this to happen

It's rarer in the lower ranks but I've unfortunately seen it happen.

Another consequence is that the longer it goes without being punished the more disillusioned people get and as a result queue times get higher because there's less people trying out PvP.

Boosting always happened in ranked pvp modes. In wow ppl do the same and in blade and soul one person can dominate alone rank 1 - 10 spots.

I agree wholeheartedly, however, the most likely scenario is that a number of these 'boosters' may potentially have a shot at the tournament & chance to compete at Fanfest.

As an example, one of the Chaos EU boosters who was caught a few months ago is in a light party team which contains multiple players who have been top in 50, 25 and 10. If they compete with that roster then they have a good shot at being one of the top teams that competes in the finals, yet the team contains a member who has boosted another player and cheated.

Bare in mind the PVP community is already seen from the outside as people who "wintrade, bot and cheat to get into the top 100" among many other things. Despite the majority of comments being untrue and confined to a minority of people in the PVP community, it does become increasingly harder to defend and build the PVP community when veterans get caught boosting and are allowed to continue, not only in the solo mode, but also in competitive LP teams without major repercussion.

This should be a non-issue because they already have player ratings.

One of the main features of player ratings for sports/games/leagues/etc that use them, is that a sudden change in rating should trigger an investigation. Like in competitive chess for example, you can't just show up one day and start playing far better than your rating and have nobody look into how that could have happened.

They should probably just have suspensions trigger automatically and have people barred from all competitive play until their case is reviewed.

Just today i saw at least 2 People bragging with their new pvp Mounts wich i know for sure are just RMT Stuff. Its really sad :(

Can't wait to see a pvp team P2W this tournament .

It may be cheaper to do that then to pay for a fan fest ticket with hotel....

I posted once that I'd seen a Twitch stream by a high rank NA player who was boasting about using hacks & boosts ("time for superspeed" was one of their remarks as they sped up whilst using Sprint). A horde of PVP players descended screeching about how it doesn't happen & that "I hope you're not implying *insert name that resembles the one you stated* is a cheat". I'd not even mentioned a single name, nor hinted at one, yet a tonne of defenders of said person piled in to say how it could NEVER be that person.... It spoke volumes to me.

Yeap, I have seen people speed hacking in PVP feast the first season, only started seeing it when I was in the top 10 for a little while. Put me right off doing it. And then the changes to pvp in stormblood just killed the rest of pvp for me :<
There's video evidence of healers that keep going at full speed while heavy'd in old pvp as well.

Not sure if they are still doing it in stormblood since I haven't really done much feasting.
