A tiny, simple RDM Request

Could we please get some sort of Dualcast indicator near our White/Black mana indicator? Maybe the crystal at the top could pulse or maybe there's a glow in-between the two mana meters or something when Dualcast is up? Or maybe those "blades" on the edge of the meter light up or something? I hate having to look up at my stats or over at the party list when I need to know if I have dualcast.

Sometimes I cast one spell, get Dualcast, and have to move because of an AoE or maybe I have enough mana to do some melee attacks or something, and I end up forgetting that I have Dualcast in the heat of the battle and end up wasting it on something stupid like Jolt.

Rather than forcing me to look up at the party list or the buff lists, it'd be nice if the Job Gauge would display the presence (or absence) of Dualcast.

Enlarge your buff list and place it somewhere in your HUD where your sight mostly is on your screen.

As Dualcast is the key mechanic of the job, an indicator on the job gauge would not be out of place.

But why haven't you already pressed the button for the second spell before the first even finished casting, so that it cast immediately?
Movement doesn't affect Dualcast, and weaponskills cancel Dualcast, so in either case you shouldn't have a residual Dualcast lying around.

If your eyes are moving about the screen too much, I would recommend reorganizing your HUD so that everything important is all in one central location. That should solve that issue. For example, everything on my screen is centered around my hotbar—

My cross-hotbar is at the bottom of my screen directly centered (I play on controller because it’s what I’m used to, and I don’t like keyboard/mouse). Under that are my HP/MP/TP bars, and above my crossbar are (in order going up): Hotbar displaying important cooldowns so I know when important things are up (like buffs/cooldowns), Enhancements bar (blown up at 110% so I can see it and the timers better), and then the Target bar. That way I can see my DoTs on the boss, their HP bar, and my own Enhancements—Dualcast will show up there.

I find that even instant-use abilities will interrupt movement sometimes so I don't like using anything when trying to move out of AoEs. And yeah, weaponskills cancel Dualcast, but Fleche and Contre Sixte (which is what I will usually use right after moving if they are up) won't and a lot of times it goes like this:

1). Hard-Cast a spell.
2). Oh No! AoE! Move!
3). Move.
4). Contre Sixte/Fleche
5). .....do I have Dualcast?

I've been training myself to assume I have Dualcast and if I see a cast meter come up, to take a step to stop the cast and cast Jolt/Stone/Fire instead, but sometimes I just plain forget.

That, and I run 1360x768. I don't have a lot of real estate to be putting buff bars, etc in the middle of the screen. If I do that, then I can't see what's going on. As it is, I had to shrink the hotbars down to the next-to-smallest setting and move them off to the side so I can see where my character is and such.

You can see I'm pretty booked on screen space already. I don't really have much extra room to work with. The only thing I can think of, is trying to tuck the buff bar down between the hotbar and chat, don't know how that would work. Could try it tho.

There's no reason not to use your dualcast while moving. On both Bard and RDM, I've never experienced using an instant causing me to not be able to continue moving. If anything, Contre and Fleche would interrupt your movement for animations, but they don't.

You shouldn't be going in to melee combo without burning your dualcast first.

Maybe it's because I started on Bard and was used to monitoring DoT's, but I have my indicators enlarged and right under my character and I have no issues monitoring DualCast.

I can see how adding it to the Job Gauge will be useful though.

RDM has so many processes that would Dualcast be the best option to add to the job gauge? Ok yes it becomes available from an early level (compared to things like Verfire Ready and Enhanced Scatter etc) but it's not like Dualcast is actually active for very long anyway when you compare that to Hotshot and Straight Shot which really did benefit being added to their job gauges.

I do find the RDM gauge a little basic though and wouldn't mind something more appealing so any addition could give it some life.

They can keep the two gauges but make the box more into a sword shape. The pommel at the bottom can be an empty () but when you have dual cast it has dualcast icon inside (#). They can keep the gem at the top to be an indicator of balance, and accentuate the red glow around the sword when you may use Enhanced spellblade attacks when >30/30 mana.

I still stand by my suggestion of moving things down to where they are all in one area. RDM is a job that requires you to look at your hotbars/enhancements, as you do need to keep an eye on your Verfire/Verstone procs, as well as Impact procs, and when you have Verholy/Verflare. Verholy/Verflare do not show up on your enhancements bar, but the rest do, and all light up on your hotbar.

One thing I could also suggest, if you don’t need everything to be so large due to poor vision (I have to have some things large because I cannot see well), you can also try scaling some items down to give yourself a bit more room—unless that is 80% at your resolution. Can’t say I know because I play at 1920x1080. If I can, and if you would like, I will send a link to what my HUD set up looks like when I get a chance to give you an idea of what I meant.

I have the hotbar buttons one-size up from the lowest because it was just too much to squint at, they were blurring together. I run a 27'' TV as a monitor and it's capped at 720p (I hope to get a better one soon).

I have no trouble with Verstone/Verfire, as you say they light up on the hotbar, and the moving outline (the same as combos) are easy to spot and catch your eyes quickly, that and I have those just to the right of my character.

It's just that Dualcast doesn't give any kind of indication on the hotbar at all and that's why I'm having trouble with it. But again, next time I play hopefully I will remember to try to move the buff/debuff area down to that space I mentioned.

You can post a screenshot if you like, though I've seen some peoples' UIs and they just look confusing to me lol. But who knows maybe I might see an idea or something.

But at least it ain't like the crazy junk you see on WoW lol.

Yeah use dualcast as soon as you have it period

Youre not playing drg no reason to fear animation lock
Also to my knowledge no spells in game stop you from being able to move

But your idea would still be useful as i get caught with dc between ads
Which is a problem in eureka when im taking damage like a dope cus "oops instad jolt" lol

To be quite blunt... you're doing it wrong.

any moment that you spend with your GCD not rolling... is lost damage. So moving instead of using dualcast? lost damage. Starting a cast then stopping it? missed damage.

When "movement stops", it's actually a symptom of the control scheme. using a targeted ability on the boss will face your character towards the boss. And, if new directional input is not recieved, it causes the character to change direction of movement because "forward" is suddenly towards the boss.

Simply put, you have some basics to master. Grasp how the camera controls and character controls interact, and keep control of it. Always be pressing your buttons. And keep track of what buttons you're on. With only a few exceptions (but it's rare and an indicator wouldn't help) I'm always aware of whether or not I have dualcast, because you always have dualcast after you cast a spell. And if there's something to hit, you should never have dualcast procced for longer than 0.5 seconds, because when you don't need a cast bar it's always correct to push that button.

i don't think it needs to be on the Job bar red mage is simple enough as it is,it makes WHM look complex
it should just be something you know "you cast jolt,scatter,verfire/stone/heal i have dual cast now"
it would be like having a icon pop up on your job bar for Combo moves

Here is a picture of my HUD layout. I tried to get some stuff going to show where my Enhancements bar is. My enfeeblements are above the target bar (and I have them blown up super big because sometimes you have to take note of different debuffs and react accordingly—like in Neo and his blue/purple).

As you can see, I keep everything sort of bunched together at the bottom of my screen so my eyes are focused mainly in that area. I decided this was the best way to do things when I found myself staring at my hotbars more than usual after the 4.0 BRD changes, and where I had to look out for more than just Bloodletter resets. I have my RDM gauge right next to the hotbars and the top of it lined up with my Enhancements to lower the amount my eyes have to go from hotbar to gauge to enhancements to boss to mechanics, and repeat.

The hotbar I have set up with cooldowns on it is optional; you don’t have to do one if you don’t want to, I just like it there so I can keep an eye on cooldowns that are on my extended cross (and not always visible unless I am holding down R2+L2).

The other one to right-hand side (numpad) is one I use for cross-role skills I don’t need that often (Apoco, Surecast), skills that I switch out on hotbar spaces with others (Addle...should probably have that one actually), and then for items (like here, they’re from where I was doing a PotD solo run, so there are potions, sustain potions, and echo drops there. The Vercure+Verraise are from early Eureka days where I was a RezBot and not much else lol.

I can see the thought process that went into making that, but I doubt that would work on 720p.

As it is, I have issues with targeting larger mobs, because if the top half of the mob is off screen, the game WILL NOT tab-target the enemy, At All.

So moving your character's feet up cuts off the viewing area above your character, which means that tall enemies will go off-screen forcing me to click-target them which is a PITA in any fight that has adds because it can cause multiple GCD loss in trying to find the thing to click on it, sometimes I click and I get a party member that's standing next to it, etc. Unless I tilt the camera way down... then I can't see the area near my feet very well to avoid AoEs.

TBH, I really wish they'd fix the tab-target problem; I don't understand why the top half of the enemy has to be in view for you to target it. I don't get why you can't target it as long as its hitbox circle is within view.

I had that issue so all I did was make the self buffs larger, haha almost 140% larger to be exact. Dual cast is always in my face now

Set the following three keybinds to something close to home position:
Set Focus Target (I recommend shF)
Target Current Focus Target (I recommend F)
Target the Target of your Current Target (I recommend T)

These are actions that need to be used quite often, so my recommendations stand even if you already have things bound to those keys that you think should be bound to those keys.

When you get to a boss, set it as your focus target. Whenever you need to switch back to it, don't tab. Just target focus target.
If for some reason you can't target an enemy but you can target a friend, quickly target the friend then target of target.

If I may add:

I would like for the RDM bar to reflect the remaining timers on Impactful (mainly this), Verstone Ready, and Verfire Ready.

Kind of confused by the OP’s request. There is an indicator at the very top of the screen next to any other status effects on your character. It’s small and pink with a countdown beneath it.

But aside from that, it’s second nature to me to immediately cast verlightning/verstone, etc. just before he initial spell’s cast completes. And when I’m on the run from AoEs and such, I just glance up to the top of the screen to see if I have DC.
