The new lockout teleportation feature is nice, but

Why does it automatically teleport me into the boss arena at the end of the timer regardless of whether or not I click to do so?

It's not a frequent occurrence, but it's happened enough times where life calls (as it does), and I have to step away from the keyboard for a moment, and someone pulls the boss, and when I return I see I'm dead on the floor of the arena.

Why.

Because there's no reason not to? Ok so you afked. You're back aaaaand you're locked out of the fight. Your party is one player short.
The teleport, on the other hand, means you can still be rezzed within the fight and contribute.

Also keeps people from using cutscenes as a way to force the party to carry them.

If the boss does a mechanic that I am literally not there to move out of the way from, and I wind up dead from it, that's reason enough in my eyes not to forcibly move me into the arena.

The cutscene thing, I get that, however.

Being raised and participating in the fight with a debuff is better than just standing outside the arena doing nothing.

Better dead inside, than outside with no way in. At least this way, you can get revived.

Because it makes no difference if you're AFK for the whole fight?

AFK->not moved to boss-> locked out-> not able to help
AFK->moved to boss->dead->not able to help

Either way, if you're afk, I don't see why you care that you end up dead or not, your party's still doing the boss without you. It's not like you're penalized heavily for dying. A few repair costs, and a debuff (which if it was a boss, you will most likely have a whole minute to get the debuff off for the next one)

And if you come back before the boss is dead, you can be rezzed and help out, something you wouldn't be able to do if you were left out the whole time.

The only reason I can come up with why anyone'd rather get locked out of a fight than get the rez debuff is someone who cares too much about parsers. There's absolutely no other downside to this sort of thing. Eat the rez and help your party, and if it's a longer afk? As others said, it shouldn't matter, you're not even there.

I'd sooner say they should give you rez-immunity after you're teleported in, rather than cancel the teleport.

Because clicking only moves you instantly, where the timer is ticking you down to moving you. You will be moved either way.

If it didn't you would have that inevitable rash of "LOL misclicked" players. Same reasoning behind why you have to deliberately return to Home Point or decline a Raise now. I'm not even sure how this is a valid complaint. Now you can still potentially participate even if you have to be revived instead of being locked out for the remainder of the encounter.

My main point is this: If I'm still AFK, and the thing moves me to the arena to die, and I don't click on the revive thing, why even forcibly move me to the arena? Bigger point: why does the "get warped to the arena" thing even have a timer if it'll just automatically move you in anyways?
As far as dude said with the cutscene thing, that is all well and good. I'd rather that you not get forcibly moved into the arena with the option to teleport into it, and get rid of the time limit before being automatically moved in regardless.

Timer is likely there to get around loading times.

I got DC'd the other day just as the run started, and as soon as I reconnected I got the prompt and was able to rez both healers on my RDM. Vehemently against this functionality going away, though again, I wouldn't mind them adding a short invulnerability since you don't know what you're teleporting into. Won't help if you're afk, but if you're afk that much, you deserve a kick and won't be there to mind anyway.

1) going to open a chest
2) reviving another character
3) reading some random text thing that exists in some areas

To give people a little bit of time in case they needed to do something else before being forced to teleport. Maybe get a nearby treasure chest, like in Sohm Al, which has 2 chests near the final boss), or to quickly change role actions or gear. It also serves as a bit of a ready check as if everyone moves in before the timer, that would imply everyone's ready.

Whereas you don't really seem to provide a reason as to why this is such an issue. We've listed several pros, and you've yet to provide a con to it (since death, as we've established, in itself doesn't count as a con as it has no real detriment to it, and in itself provides a benefit of being rezzable the moment you return).
You just keep with "why". Well, we've answered the why. Move on.

Because then at least you're in the arena and can be revived when you return. Unless you intend to be AFK for the entire encounter I don't see why you'd be against being ported inside. And if you are going to be AFK the entire time I don't understand why this even matters to you so much.

Because I've run enough dungeons with someone deciding that they'll lolafk a fight they don't want to deal with that this means that they don't get to just sit it out; instead of being locked out oh darn, now they're free for the duration of the fight, we get to see them brought in, and if they don't take the rez, we KNOW they're afk/not contributing & not just 'locked out sorry guys I'd help if I could'.

I haven't experienced this feature but I don't love the idea of AFK people being ported in. It doesn't sound like there's any point to the timer, if you just have the prompt stay up then couldn't the AFK person just click it when they get back? And then they'd port in alive instead of being dead and had multiple people waste MP on trying to raise an AFK person already.

I don't think we need to encourage people to pull early and ignore everyone else in the run. It seems like the opposite of the ready check and countdown timer features that seem to get used less and less, now you can just go and don't have to worry if people are ready because they're coming anyway and then it's their fault if they die.

The problem presented by OP is that you're being teleported into an AOE. Between loading times and reaction times, you might just not have time to dodge even if you're actually there. Which is a point I will concede, hence why they should consider adding a short invul.

Yeah, just treat the teleport in as if you've been ressed via healer LB3 (meaning no weakness debuff applied), and add invulnerability frames UNLESS you start doing an action other than moving. Like you said, same as being ressed. That I think should be added, seen several people get caught out by the lack of invul frames and promptly get creamed upon entering the arena.

I don't think I've encountered AFK griefing. Though I've had to stay out of arenas due to griefers pulling in 24 mans, so this mechanic seems more likely to enable griefers based on my experience.

There's nothing SE can do about that sort of griefing unless they lock the boss until everyone's there, but they're not going to do that nor do I think they should (if 23 people don't want to wait on the 24th to finish cutscene, they have a right to, only now that 24th will be shot into the boss room and not miss the fight). If anything, we're now spared half the alliance being locked out because someone pulled while they were still in cutscene.

100% on the temp invuln. I don't want to punish people who were watching cutscenes/had to grab pizza at the door. But if you're gone long enough to be AFK for the entire fight, it's probably better that you be replaced anyway unless this is something you've talked out with your teammates. I understand that life happens and try to be understanding, but I also want the game to be fair to the folks who are active and participating.

You die once in a DF duty, so what? The gil you get by running the place is more than enough to cover any repairs. You would likely also die if your sudden need to afk occured during a fight instead of between them. I really don't see the problem here.

There are very few cases when a person cannot say anything when going away. If they had a heart attack or the like (when the game is the least of their problems), if their house is on fire (again, don't think anyone would care about the game), if they are at a robbers gunpoint (same) or if a small child they are taking care of is about to do something extremely dangerous.

As you can see, all of these cases involve a loss of life or severe health hazard at least. At all other times, the time it takes to write "need 3min" is absolutely nothing significant.


If you do say and end up dead because of this feature, then it just means your party decided that it's better to have you dead and ready for resurrection than wait on you. If you don't say...it's on you.

I'm not suggesting a change but one drawback of this is on jobs that have a raise ability. This change increases the chance of a wasted Swiftcast/Resurrection on an AFK player as they are now inside the arena and you have no way of knowing they are not there. With them stuck outside they will never be a potential target reducing the chance of wasting the Swiftcast on an AFK player.

I have life stuff and never have to walk away while doing a dungeon. It's not like they take very long. I think the OP should look into why he needs to hurt the runs in the first place...

Like I said, it happens so far and few between. But if I have to get up and help a family member who cannot do something themselves (elderly person unable to do a thing, specifically), or I get a phone call that requires my attention.
That and life situations are varied from person to person. I wouldn't judge others out-of-game situations based on your own.

I guess I just don't understand why you are so bothered by being teleported in and dying because you were AFK. I could understand if you died due to no invuln while you were at the keys, but wouldn't you rather have the chance to participate in the fight instead of sitting out just because you had to dip out for a second, whether you died in the process or not? Not trying to make fun of you here or anything, I just feel like I'm missing something.

Only people I feel like this would annoy are the ones I see standing around raids waiting to be locked out for an easy run. The ones who deliberately walk back to the boss after clearing from death instead of using the teleporter. Now instead of being sorry for being Locke doubt 4 times now you will have to actually participate when ported in or when raised if you die as afk.

Probably wouldn't be able to get away with invulnerability since players might rig it so the d/c before the fight and reconnect just as the tank buster comes. Yes, unlikely to pull off.

Rather they just teleport the player in blindly, but teleport them to where the party leader is standing, so you don't drop right into the middle of an AOE, but otherwise I think works in a way that nobody should be objecting to..

Why do I see so many worried about wasting MP on raising an afk player? If player didn't get moved until the timer finished, if the player didn't do anything after being moved, if the player is lying dead exactly where they teleported to, chances are you can save your MP, until/unless they finally speak up. Because it's one thing to step afk without saying anything, but if you get back and you're dead, kinda no reason not to take a few seconds to type something up. Because you're not doing anything else.

I don't thing the devs should cater to that though do you? If you have to step away fine, but take the punishment that comes with that. The feature is designed to get you into the arena when you lag behind so you can contribute. You are asking us to accept people who afk and remove a system that forces them to contribute in some way.

Seems like an excuse to not have to fight if it's so hard for you to be raised and continue the fight with your party. You just want to stay outside and gather your loot.

This thread is silly. If you're afk, say nothing, we get impatient and you don't start the fight or at least teleport in and die/afk, I like to avoid fights or anything of the sorts but this would at least give me a valid reason to replace you.

Obviously the button is to get in sooner of you get back before the timer runs out.

Why are you trying to justify going afk anyways? You are the problem, not the game...

Basically,
1. If you are in a dungeon you are expected to participate in boss fights.
2. If you anticipate needing to go AFK, don't queue.
3. If an emergency happens then dying in a video game is probably the least of your worries, given that there are no consequences for doing so.
4. If you know you're going to potentially go AFK, you should talk to your group. They should be as fine with you being dead as with you being locked out.

TL;DR: Leaving the button as optional still gives lazy players the ability to not participate and this forces you to participate in the content you sign up for. The "negative effects" of this are so laughable that they're 100% negligible.

Because if you're not worried about a timer and you're not contributing to the raid enough for this to warrant a forum post you probably deserve the single death for wasting people's time?

It's a death, if you're gone longer than the timer you're lucky it's that rather than the overall boot. You'll pay some chump change in repair bills and thats it.

Breathtakingly unlikely to happen and it wouldn't help an invulnerable tank take the hit anyways since they wouldn't have any enmity on the boss. The invuln would go away once they used any ability.

It almost sounds like you WANT to afk out of the boss arena.

I'm not paying attention to what that one player did to get to where they died as I have other things to pay attention to after the pull. I'll guarantee I'm not the only one who sees a dead player and tries to raise them. I don't think it is worth a change to the way the timer works but it is definitely a negative effect of the change.

That's fine. It's happened to me, and I've had to boot afk people as well. I just eat the kick, and requeue for whatever it was once i know I'll have more time to actually allocate to the dungeon/raid/trial/whatever.

My point isn't to skip out on content, like so many seem to think. My point is taking agency from the player by forcing them to be moved into a boss arena when they're not present themselves. Life happens, and if I wind up being kicked, then so be it.
