Should we move to a token based loot system, instead of going back to Need / Greed?

Due to my poor explanation in the other thread regarding the greed all in 24's, figured I would pose the question in it's own thread. Would the community benefit from a token based loot system were everyone gets a roll, and whoever wins the token and use it to get whatever piece of gear they want that would have normally dropped from encounter. Would a token based system hamper the longevity of content? Overall any general thoughts or feelings.

I think the Savage mode loot system we have is the best of both worlds. You get individual item drops but you also get tokens that you can turn in that guarantee the item you want if you hit a really bad string of RNG. Now the system isn't perfect and some of the values should be re-examined/changed, but it's still a better design than what the 24m content has right now. That being said, there is a concern about clogging up our inventories with a variety of tokens which is indeed a legitimate one and so they'd have to alter it in some way.

I don't see why they couldn't add an additional token to the 24m, the one that comes to mind is the coffer you get from clearing O4S and O8S. I don't see why they couldn't add one that you would get at the end of the 24m that lets you trade for any piece from the raid that you want, it would be a way for glamour collectors and people looking to gear their main or alternate jobs an incentive to keep going and farming gear. With the new greed only system and the limited number of drops per boss/week, knowing you're guaranteed at least one item each week could be a great incentive to get people to keep going.

Didn't they have something like this in Diadem? Yeah, it gave you gear instead, but you could trade them in for tokens, which could then be traded in for other goods. Rab technically already drops a token of sorts, but I think adding tokens to buy gear may quell the burning fires of anguish across the forums. xD I think if it were to offer one drop while getting tokens for gear could be good incentive as Khalithar said (if I'm really correctly, just woke up). You could get the tokens, yeah, but rolling on loot and possibly getting it could could potentially help minimise grinding for tokens and spending your tokens on other items, etc. I hope I'm making sense.

That would very much depend on how many tokens you need for a piece of gear. Too many tokens would lengthen the longevity but hamper the enjoyment of looting, too few would shorten the relevance of the content.

There is also the danger of it feeling like more of the same given Omega also has a token system. But I think people would get over it if it was a good replacement for greed only and need/greed/pass.

Certainly it would lessen drama because the tokens can be useful for literally every class, so you can't claim someone hasn't got the right to loot it.

However there is the issue of bag space. There's already enough criticism about currency taking up bag space. These tokens would take up more. I'm of the opinion that all currency should be in the currency window instead but that's a whole other subject.

Only downside to this is we have yet an another 4-5 currency based items much like delta/sigma or yet an another "coin"

These need to moved to currencies tab.

Aside from...I'm not upset over this change..because I honestly don't care for the gear anyway.
Not against a improvement mind you...but its not a number 1 issue to me.

What do you think is a fair ratio? I was thinking more along the lines of one 1:1 but that would properly would kill the content fairly quickly. As someone mentioned in the other thread the idea I have a token meant solely as glam would be an interesting approach.

That guarantee existed (to a degree) before the "need" removal. the reason the savage raid system works like that is due to its "progression" flavor.

They want you to run this multiple times per week, why don't you seem to get that? A 1:1 token trade complete eliminates that.

That is a given that they want us to run the content, but that is why I asked what would be a good ratio that would still provide an incentive for players to still do multiple runs per week. I even admired that a 1:1 ratio would probably kill the content. If it turns out the adding a new system would be too much work I would be in favor of them simply going back to the old system personally I may not like it but need/greed/pass general speaking is the status quo so if they went back I would fully understand. Just like in the other thread simply trying to have a discussion that the change did bring about. Maybe as a community we can find a fair balance that is an improvement for the community.

You can keep the random loot, but start counting the runs the player does in a week. If a player does it X times and has gotten no loot, the player get a token. The token can be traded in for any item that drops in the Alliance Raid. The token counts as getting the weekly item. And it doesn't exactly have to be token going into inventory, it can be a quest based or it could be new type of tomestone. This doesn't change that much but cap out how many times a player would have to run to get what they want.

This purposed idea does solve a lot my personal issues I had with need/greed/pass, and if they did go back to need/greed/pass system using your ideas as a bases I would not be against it either.

I do understand and yeah having a mixture of both would be a good incentive. The questions how many tokens do you feel would be offer a good balance needed to hand into for one piece of gear?

That is an interesting take, would you keep the greed all, or would you rather they revert it back to need/greed/pass? I like this idea, still gives reason for people to run the content more then once a week, while alleviating poor rng luck.
