Have you played 4.3? :3c
I am stuck on a raid because of gear req so not all of it
As of 4.3, they're coming back into focus.
The guys are so devious it wouldn't surprise me if they were behind virtually every major conflict in Hydaelyn's history, including the Dragonsong War (They never really elaborated on who told the ancient Ishgardians that a dragon's eyes are a source of power, after all).
The Ascians are a big threat and cause many things to happen directly or indirectly. Most of SB happens to fall under "indirectly".
Yeah, but... what evidence do we have that they're actually, y'know, wrong?
We actually don't and it's constantly implied there's more than what we are told. We know they have the Echo and keep insisting that'll bring us to the same conclusion as them, we know Hydaelyn and Zodiark used to be the same entity, we're basically Hydaelyn's Tempered... story's pleasantly ambiguous so far.
The info we got is due to dragons and men once lived together, men eventually figured the secret of dragon's eyes. One sidequest deal about a healer who once tried to find medications suitable for dragons so it's possible they found out of the eyes on their own, tho I wouldn't be surprised if Ascian had a play in it.
While we're getting that Ascians still plot behind the scenes, I'm rather curious why they chose the emissary to play the bigger role here. It's my understanding that the black robe ones are the enforcers yet we see less of them ever since 3.0
Minfillia is essentially Hydaelyn's emmissary now and she certainly feels more powerful compared to before (not really hard since she wasn't a fighter before but still.)
Elidibus meanwhile has so far mostly only been a schemer/planner, we don't know where he actually fits fighting wise. However it should be noted that there is one other Elidibus in Final Fantasy history: Tactics. He is an optional boss who has the thirteenth auracite and is pretty powerful. His most powerful attack is to summon Zodiark. So his XIV version being pretty powerful makes sense.
Well Lahabrea's plan was to cause a ton of death, not exactly something our characters want to happen. Same with Igeyorhm. Elidibus has only ever alluded to us being willing to work with him if only we know the truth...which he never tells us, and one of the allies he does tell atleast some things of (Urainger) still doesn't ally with him fully, only going far enough to enact his own plan. And of course we have the Warriors of Darkness, who were also manipulated by Elidibus and from what we have seen Hydaelyn and Light in general weren't trying to cause what happened. Now accoriding to lore neither were the Ascians with the Void but it happened there first.
