Swallow's Compass- Help! it tickles!

Anyone tanking this notice that mobs dont really hit hard at all? I coulda gone the whole dungeon without grit/defiance AND with big pulls. Seems a little undertuned mobwise to me.

Not asking they make mobs hit super hard but surely this is a little too much in the other direction?

Huh you're right, the dungeon doesn't have item level sync like I thought it did.

It is kind of strange that only the 4.0 level 70 dungeons have item level sync applied, though even the trash in those dungeons hits for rather piddly amounts of damage if you're at the max ilevel.

Absolutely.

When I ran it for the first time, the tank pulled 4 or so packs end to end in the knockback tunnel. I went into ‘heal all the things’ mode expecting it to hit like Hells lid but the damage just never came. Largesse regen pretty much covers anything here. Great for DPSing, but awful if you actually want to heal anything. I suspect I could comfortably tank most if not all of this dungeon myseld tbh.

That's what I tell all tanks when I get in as a healer. "Everything here hits like a wet noodle". I barely have to heal, which well, it's good because I can go full deeps mode!

They do it so a healer at max ilvl isn't overtaking a tank's enmity at minimum ilvl.

Reason, the next time SE puts out content the dungeons get way too hard, mobs have way too much health and spending more time fighting trash to get to a boss.

Then we have the very same people who post about it gripe that its just as bad as the Aurum Vale afterwards truth.

But Aurum Vale is great.
We need more challenges I'm the game. Not less.

I consider this to be a Glamour dungeon so I welcome the easiness

People complain about Aurum Vale because it's mechanics can't be ignored. Unlike everything else in ARR, even when synced. Aurum Vale with the command mission squadrun is a laughable pushover because nothing hurts the squad.

I was like ... where'd the DPS go and turned around? Did they both decide to step in bad?

But that's the thing, the game balance hinges on if healing the tank rips enmity from them or not. If there is a constant amount of poison debuffs going on, then the healer is going to put out more healing, and thus rip enmity from weaker tanks much quicker.

My intention is not to ask SE to make the mobs hit stupid hard, I just think they underdid the damage a little bit.

I feel the dmng from trash to be nothing compared to hell's lid and fract......well just hell's lid.

I kinda forgive them because Wukong fight is fun imho and overall I dunno the dungeon to me has a feeling of flowing well

Aurum Vale was an excellent dungeon (and still is) because it actually required you to be careful. Swallow’s Compass...I could literally throw Adlo + Excog on the tank, and Eos could easily heal the rest. During the bosses with AOE damage? Whispering Dawn had it...MAYBE I had to use Indom if people were standing in the bleed during the last boss. Same with WHM: my HoTs, Assize, and Asylum had everything; I never had to cast a single-target heal. I imagine AST would be similar in that Earthly Star and HoTs could handle most of the damage. And my healers are not max ilvl (they’re like i355 I think with 350/360 gear, and Anemos weapons).

One run some friends and I did (we were NOT i370), we pulled just the Malboro and it couldn’t even break my Adlo. That was just sad. I guess, to be fair, it was a Crit-lo, but still. Just seemed really pathetic to me. The dungeon itself is beautiful; I really like the aesthetic of it, but wet paper hits harder.

Aurum vale wasn't excellent by a long shot, it's hated by most people for a reason. And not because you have to watch what you're doing, plenty of content makes you do that and is far better appreciated.

Reminds me of Xephatol, also did barely any damage, can bait circles to hurt mobs, and basically same design, ascending.

Even at ilvl 360 the trash mobs in Hell's Lid still pack a punch and can put a tank into the ground if the healer doesn't pay attention. But in Swallow's Compass... I'm pretty sure I can get away without the healer ever touching my health. Things in there just don't hurt at all.

It’s hated because people can’t just roll their faces on the keyboard and clear it. They cannot pull wall to wall like most other dungeons. And the bosses have actual mechanics that you have to follow or you die. That’s why they hate it. I love it for those very reasons.

It's indeed hard being right so often.

Look, AV is the place before you hit 50. It has dangerous areas teaching everyone not to do silly things. It has mobs that require a slight amount of thought into the pull order by the tank. An experienced one will know the tricks to get even ranged mobs to a safe place in melee distance. A healer with shields can make great use of them and negate a frogs draw-in. It has boss mechanics that must be tended to by everyone, meaning your DPS can't just face smash their keyboard and hope to get through.

Overall it isn't an easy run. An experienced group can make it much smoother though. That's the thing, AV teaches you to either be moderately good at the game and have a decent time, or be uh... of a lesser tier let's say, and cause misery to the entire group.

The point is, it's the perfect stepping stone dungeon before you hit 50, and can outgear other content with ease.
Saying it's a bad dungeon is giving it a disservice!

In 1.0 even the air was toxic. There was a berry you could eat to mitigate it. The achievement to get through the dungeon without eating was some of the most fun I've had.

I don’t enjoy this dungeon much and find hells lid and fractal hard much more fun.

This one starts out with running in a circle, but you can’t pull big and the monsters aren’t very interesting and take a while to die. The first boss hits hard but doesn’t do anything interesting. The trip to the next boss you can pull big, but the monsters don’t hit hard, it feels like sushi, but with weaker monsters who take agggges to die. The second boss takes aaaages again to die but is boring. The mobs to the last boss feel also weak and take along time and the final boss is the most interesting. All in all feels like a long run after it ends :)

Yeah right you say Vale is so great then why is it when I go do it in the roulette people disband and take off.

this goes on for about 30 minutes and even sometimes nobody comes back forcing people to leave the dungeon entirely.

That tells me one thing NOBODY LIKES IT.

There is another map that was released that takes forever forget but once the mobs have too much health it drags on too much cause I feel like im fighting for 5 minutes straight to kill 3-4 trash mobs, that isn't fun to me.

What you talking about cactuar is one of the best servers ever I cannot speak for the others on same data center.

Of course stuff not going hit hard when we're in Ilvl360-70 this isn't a sync dungeon. Swallow is what Ilvl330 so most of us are 30 - 40 Ilvls above this dungeon, I imagine if go & get a I330 set to run it in then this dungeon would hit much harder.

That's funny because no one has ever left it when I get it in roulettes. Sounds like there's bigger issues going on than the roulette choice there.

They were attempting snark because so many individuals from Aether (Cactuar specifically in recent times) have contested posts from them in the past. However, so have many from Primal and Chaos as well. :rolleyes:

Aether has zero issues with getting groups. The last time I saw someone actually abandon a duty at the very beginning was not Aurum Vale; it was Halatali. Obviously someone displeased with the Roulette choice even though Halatali is a faceroll. I'd rather it than Sastasha.

Well tbh I never get ppl abandoning on any dungeons, personally I find Aurum Vale boring, but it's also true that I'm saying this because I've done it so many times already, plus there's the fact that the zone aesthetically is not on my fancy and some parts are very similar to Darkhold.
Objectively however it's true that it has something that other dungeons don't have like the fact that you risk on pulling too much if you are not careful.

Not strange at all. This is also how they did it during Heavensward. The older dungeons gradually have an ilvl sync applied to compensate for gear discrenpancy between longer time and newer players (to account for newer / lower geared tanks.)

I'm loving the new dungeon. Hell's Lid is a coin flip on the last pull depending on how many braincells the tank has, and everything in there has excessive amounts of health. Fractal is kinda neat mechanically I guess, but screw chimeras and minotaurs.

Swallow's Compass is much faster paced, visually amazing, and the music is spot on.

I feel like the other two experts have harder hitting mobs for sure, though. And those have a 20ilevel difference from Swallow's Compass.

Yea I had the same experience as OP but myself and the tank are 360+ ilvl so it makes sense that it didn't hurt us much.

Not sure about the tank’s ilvl but in my experiences as a healers in the new dungeon there really isn’t a lot of damage going out. I admit to having zoned out a few times, panicking realising I hadn’t healed the tank once during the pull, only to see they’re still at 75% HP and Excogitation was still up!
The visuals and fights in the dungeon are good but i do think it feels more undertuned than expert dungeons usually are

It's not just a feeling, they do hit for far less than the previous ones, however they seem to die also faster to me, but maybe it's just me using WAR while doing compass

What bothers me the most about the new dungeon is the flashing on the screen before certain mobs. It hurts my eyes and disorientates me for a moment. When I know one is coming I can close my eyes to avoid it, thank goodness the only harm that causes is some lost healer dps as a tank could do this naked.

Im just returned to play the new content after 2 months break so my gear around 340 (PLD), and i could pull together everything without problem, just before the 2nd boss, the malboro and all those monsters in water, could tank them easily ( ofc i used the tank cds, and the healer was also know her stuff but still...) , so yes its feels like dungeons getting more and more easier, anyway i do 1 ex roulette / week (for WT) because its just too boring for me to run the same dungeon so many times.
