Companion APP Release Date?

Hai guise,

Does anyone know when the Companion app for xiv will be released so I can sub to it to be able to pay for an additional retainer?

I'm not sure if you're being sarcastic or not but it sounds so sad...

I posted a request for this as well. It hasn't been addressed in any of the news/notes of any kind.

I keep seeing “app” written in capitals lately. Are you doing it for emphasis or do some people think it’s meant to be an acronym? It’s just short for “application”.

Why would you pay $5 to gain access to pay $2 ($7 total per month) for one retainer!

Honestly, the radio silence about it since the app was first mentioned makes me hopeful that the huge backlash against it is being taken to heart - and thus they're working on making it less... that.

But we all know what SE does with hopes and dreams, so I'm not holding my breath.

Even acronyms aren't usually capitalized once they enter the common vernacular the way "app" has. Laser being a classic example. "Web app," "laser beam". Same thing. Everyone knows exactly what you're referring to and writing it as LASER seems silly and a little pretentious.

I don't think the Devs ever stated that the app was releasing with 4.3, just over the course of the 4.3 cycle. Expect it any time over the next 3.5 months

They actually did.

They said Companion app would be released around 4.3 and in late May so either this weekend or the end of this week

There was apparently a Japanese interview done where they stated that the app had some delays crop up with it. Haven't gotten the source just yet from it, but it wouldn't surprise me seeing as we're almost never told anything.

It truly baffles my mind that people have to pay for extra retainers in a sub based MMO. It's absolutely ludicrous.

I pay $13/m and $15/$12 per track and car to play an online racing sim.

I paid $70 for a hoodie to cosplay Desmond from Assassin's Creed. $90 to go to DCC. Some actors cost $100 for a sign and a photo... Each. And y'all complain about the cost of a coffee from Starbucks. I'm just saying, rather than complaining cost, complain what we get paid.

Why not both? People aren't complaining about the cost per se, more than the pricing model of XIV right now is very nickel-and-dime, and people are paying for subscriptions on top of subscriptions on top of subscriptions on top of cash shop. At what point does it have to get to for that to be a problem for you?

They did say it was estimated, and that could be longer...however looks like they can't finish contract with google and such.

As per the last Live Letter, there is still no release date for the app and nothing has been confirmed otherwise especially not relating to the recent patch. I'm sure the next Live Letter will have more information.

"We're currently going through the final checks for the app release. The app will be released once the approval from the software distributors is finalized, so we won't be able to give an exact time. We'll be sure to announce it via the Lodestone, so please look forward to it. During the broadcast we did a quick recap of the features that'll be available on the companion app."
