This game used to take at least some skill?

I recall folks using Punishing Barbs for a time and Aegis Boon and slaying enemies way higher than they were supposed to.
Although, that was before NMs, so I guess it didn't serve any purpose.
edit: And using Guard between Stygian Spikes would grant so much MP that Cure could be used indefinitely. No need for a Gladiator tank, when you can Mage Tank! AoE Cure, shield, Stygian Spikes, damage shield.
Well, I'm not saying it was perfect.
Just saying I (personally) thought it took more skill than it does now.
Ah! Understood. I'm not sure how I feel about the new system. I think I don't like the abilities, but I dooo like the exclusive traits. Perhaps if the old system had some more exclusive traits and re-evaluated their less sexier abilities.
i.e. debuffs lasting longer, slightly shorter cooldowns on crowd control-debilitating effects (Sleep, Silence, Slow, rooting, snaring, Paralyze, etc.)
Yeah I agree, the new trait system is great. I do agree with you there.
I havn't been able to get myself to play since 1.20.
Part of me wonders if I'll bother even when 2.0 is out.
Didn't know "Remember when this game took skill?" followed with a video showing something that took skill that can no longer be done due to damage balancing and removal of certain skills meant "You can't do this anymore because it hardly takes skill to play anymore." (or whatever you thought I meant)
/Andrien's derail thread misses and does no damage.
Old sistem never got skill. No moral.
Artificial skill is artificial. It's simply the exploitation of the imbalances in skills and stats in order to take down mobs that you shouldn't even be going near realistically.
I'm with Andrien on this one. Things that were easy back in the day are much harder now, even if that means some are no longer possible. Any game where a r50 character can solo a r95 mob is absolutely BROKEN. It just shows the lack of skill involved in defeating enemies that were meant for your level.
A better comparison would have been Dodore solo before and after or something similar.
You're comparing old FFXIV to current FFXIV. The video you linked still had the stamina bar.
Dodore was easily soloable back then, along with Gob and I think Uraeus as well.
Is that possible now? Maybe, but I'm pretty sure it takes much more skill than spamming cures and keeping Emulate up.
I too would love to see some extremely difficult content, but saying the game took more skill back then is simply not true.
I suppose this is all relative to the play style of the individual. What one would consider more of a challenge back then is all based on perspective, and ones own play style preference. I think Yoshida has favored the majority which is only fair, but for people who seek more of a "challenge" we will just have to hold out for that and hope Yoshida comes through for us.
