Retainer Clarification

So, I probably already know the answer to this, but the retainer page on the Mogstation has some unclear wording that I thought I'd ask about.

First, the page acknowledges that two retainers are a part of our subscription.

But then, in the table that follows, the first column is labeled "Number of Additional Retainers." The associated fee for 1 and 2 Additional Retainers is "No additional fee."

If I am to take this page at face value, then, in theory, I should be allowed to hire up to 2 additional retainers, in addition to the two that we are granted with our subscription, for no additional fee.

But that's not actually how it works, is it?

pretty sure it means the total amount together
they give you 2 for free
but lets say you want a 3rd one you select the option for
1 additional retainer and it charges you the month to have it.
then just go to the retainer counter at the town hub and just hire the 3rd one.

I'm sure that's the intent. But the way it's written does not convey that clearly.

Yep. I have 4 retainers. Only 2 free, the other two I have to pay for. You can pay for up to 7 more right now, for a total of 9, and once the app comes out, you can pay $5 so you an spend another $2 to hire a 10th retainer.

Yes, you now need to pay microtransactions just so you can buy more microtransactions.

On the other hand, look at that phrasing - we can “hire” two retainers as part of the basic subscription fee.

What does the app supposedly do? Let you “hire” an additional retainer.

It’s still not clear, but the app may not be making you pay for the retainer on top of paying for the app subscription.

That's just how it works within the lore. The player character is hiring the services of these retainers.

Seriously, app talk, app thread. This was just based on the Mogstation page and the wording therein.

The wording itself is plenty clear. The only point of confusion is the table being labeled "additional" retainers, but then also including the two free ones you get. Context still makes it clear enough in my opinion.

That's kinda what I think. The table could/should probably remove "additional." Or perhaps instead of listing the first two retainers as "No additional fee," clarify that they're the two included in the game subscription.

It's poorly worded, yeah. I'd change "Additional" to "Total", and then the table is correct (as 1 & 2 total retainers are free).

2 bucks a month on top of my sub for those extra 2 Retainers.
If you want an extra one...you buy the service...and then go to the vocate to see an extra slot open for the new retainer.

Nope i didnt. All they are talking about is the mogstation portion of adding additional retainers. Nothing was mentioned about app by OP. #reading

Not sure I understand, I'm reading it to be on the safe side as I write this. My understanding, as I'm reading this, it shows that the subscription comes with 2 retainers. any additional shows fee. This is also referenced under their Loadstone guide. So not really sure where the misunderstanding is. They even show nice pictures for those who struggle with comprehension skills. No offense. As far I have known it's 2 included with monthly any extra cost.

I never bothered to look, didnt realize an additional retainer is only $1 a month until this thread....I will be buying one soon rather than buying something cosmetic from the mog station.

In fact before I go buying ANYTHING from the mog station I will remind myself "are you good on storage? cuz you could be getting another retainer instead of some $15 shoes that dont exist"

Have you ever had a scenario where you couldn't pay your subscription? does it affect the items in your extra retainers? or Just unable to play until paid, like normal.

I had a month free time added(I had bought ARR for PC while primarily playing on PS4), I just couldn't access those retainers until the paid time started up again. Nothing on them changed though.

had an issue with fraud on my CC once, items were still there I just could not access until I made a payment.

I don't think we're on the same page (literally). You're looking at the retainer guide listed on the Lodestone. We're talking about the chart that's presented on the Mog Station when you go to hire more retainers.

Without the context of the initial text the table could be possibly be misconstrued to imply you get two extra retainers on top of the free ones because the table says "Additional Retainers" for whatever reason. There would be less confusion if it said "Total Retainers" or something similar. Or it shouldn't mention the two free ones at all.

Even with the poorly chosen label, the table is clear enough in context. But if viewed in a vacuum I guess I could understand how it might be confusing.

This one gets it. I woulda included pictures, but image sharing isn't my strong suit.

Simply struck me as odd that they'd point out "your sub gets you 2 retainers to start with," and then seemingly imply you can buy 2 "additional" for no fee.

The 10th retainer is actually apart of the $5 premium package, no separate additional 2 dollar charge.

So you're simply misunderstanding the guy's post, then.

The last part of Ryaz's post talks about paying microtransactions (the premium fee for the app) to be able to pay microtransactions (being able to purchase another retainer above the current cap of 9 retainers).

Allow me to reiterate: Nothing about this thread is in regards to the app. All discussion of the app and how it may or may not pertain to retainers in the future is a topic for another thread.

hmmm maybe is our perspectives however, hence I did mention I was looking directly at the mogstation, and like it states even in that picture your account allows you to hire two retainers that are included per character as part of your basic subscription. The picture was made for people who have comprehension skill difficulties. So if your reading it properly it shows retainer by number. While I can agree sometimes translators can be picky and many things can be misunderstood. However, English is my second ( 4 languages total ) language, even I can figure out how it works as they intended to interpret.

Also usually I'm at work when in forums so links are pretty much the only thing I can link. ( have some restrictions )
