I was at 23 anima D-:< when the servers went offline. When they go back up, will anima be at 100? Does anybody know?
Someone please answer that... I FEAR my guardian and ANIMA will still be at zero when I log back in finally.... Someone from SE... PLEASE ANSWER THIS
i would believe that from what i understand they have been taken down completely so we would be where we were pre disaster.
I am in favor of everyone's anima being reset to 0 once the servers come back online.
I am in favor of anima and anywhere-anytime teleportation being removed from the game once the servers come back online.
if they go back to where they were before the servers went down most people would be close to 0. i'd have 90smth because i run most everywhere besides we take turns porting from one camp to another for nm fights.
I am in favor of Galamantyl's character being reset to 0 once servers come back online.
I think the most likely thing is that they will turn the clock ahead so anima and guildleve timers will move forward.
Or else the game syncs with a real world timer... in which case time will be moved forward to match how much time has passed
yeah that is true. my alarm clock does that. no matter how long it's unplugged it will automatically reset and move forward to the correct time. idk if they'd have an advanced system like that, but after the 3 hr downtime for updates it moves forward to the new time so idk if it's done automatically or manually there either
I was running away from giant toads in Coerthas with my R21 CON, and the first thing I need to do when I get back logged in, is to GTFO to Ul'dah. Hopefully I'll be at 100 anima, but I kind of doubt it. Sigh...
Resetting anima would be a way for SE to keep players content after the downtime
My retainers better be sold out when I get back.. they've had plenty of time to sell their wares.. if not they fired!
maybe I can have 1000 gift from the festival NPC
it probably runs of a server time sync so it will be increasing during this time (not constant but it will compare the time when you next login).
servers can be completely powerless and still retain time due to bios battery
Come on people. I'm sure you'll have full anima when the servers come back online. It doesn't have to be a time thing. SE can just reset everyone's anima to 100, which I imagine they will do. >_>
Hah! I did not fully think about it when I decided to splurge on warping back and forth an hour before the shutdown thinking my Anima and GF will be at max when servers are up again.
Damn... oh well. Guess we'll just wait and see.
i can't believe this was really asked. lol.
people are an amazing creature for sure, does it really matter that you might have to wait a couple days to get your freaking anima back?

The time is set at an atomic level, just like in XI so when you log in the next time it will know its been "X-time" and you would have gotten all your restored anima and guardian favor.
Thats how SE can sell things like the real life clocks that keep in game time perfectly.
was this even necessary? a guy asked an innocent question. [Removed by Moderator according to the FINAL FANTASY XIV FORUM Guidelines.] come on we have free time and i hate how people are struggling over there to just survive, but it's not like he said they owe this or that. a simple question doesn't need a rude response.
I cant remember if anima regened between testing block back in beta. I don't think it did. well like most things, Hope for the best. expect the worse

The guy was simply saying that there are more important things atm than your "game data". At least he has some sort of reverence for the situation in Japan.
On the topic of the servers. This is how it usually works: The Servers are down to conserve power. This means they are either A) Completely powered down or B) in standby/stasis mode using very little power. Either way neither option would generate enough power to calculate all the data required to keep the virtual worlds persistent.
Back-Ups are the most likely scenario. The only option is to reset counters at reboot IF Anima and GA is to be reset.

My main point was that the servers will most likely need a counter reset. That is usually how these things go.

I felt the same way about him back on FFXIVCore. I think I will do the same thing here.
Hard to explain this, but in the server, there's sort of an internal clock based on the current time. That said, in the game, many game months have passed, so I'm sure the counters (IE Anima and Guardian Favour) will adjust to compensate this and will probably be reset.
And you are all off-topic.
On-topic:
I wouldn't worry about it either way, I don't think it will be a huge issue, since people will have time to gain it back in the meantime. I personally don't pay attention to how much my Anima or Guardian's Aspect has increased during a Maintenance. So if it does, then yes we will probably be back up at 100, if not, then probably not.
Furthermore, if you want to do the math and work on percentages, knock off 20% from the probability working in your favor.
People. Just because the servers are offline doesn't mean the timer is off. It's like Animal Crossing or a number of other things. There's still an internal timer and when they boot back up, they look at what data was up at the time and the current time, and calculate changes as they should be based on the difference in time. The servers aren't like VCR clocks. Besides, even if I am wrong, then it would reset everything to full. That's just how it works.
@Griss, back in Beta, when they first put in the Anima, it only recharged 4 a day. Between beta sessions, you'd start with 8 more than you had the previous time. I remember a lot of complaints back then about how slowed it recharged.
I understand your point, however, keep in mind those machines you used as an example are nowhere near the complexity of a Server nor do they require the large amount of computations a Server does in order to function in standby mode.
I have asked my cousin about this, he is a Network Tech for a corporation called NMCI "Navy Marine Corps Internet" and his response was what I based my current and previous posts on.
Optimism is always nice though :D
Let's hope SE does a counter reset for us on reboot in celebration of the servers coming back up AND Japan coming out of its power crisis!!!
***Many prayers to those in Japan. May their families be blessed.***
That's the thing though... Those servers can easily figure out the calculation. The only things that would be reset are monster and NM pops. Everything else is based on a simple count down clock mechanic. Each character's last time of use on any given timer is going to be saved with the character data, and after that, it just runs a check against a clock. It's the most parsimonious answer and way to do something like that.
No Sir. The servers closed with me being back up to 73 Anima. It would be wrong for them to take that from me. I was hoofin it before the servers went down just so my anima can build back up. And if it is still at 73 when they restart the servers I am fine with that too. I worked hard resisting the temptation to teleport!
i assume even if the servers are shutdown, its not completely shudown, it must have somesort of low power to keep internal clock running. About the anima thing... i woulnt mind travelling to another city using anima, but running from Ul'Dah to Camp Horizon shouldnt need the use of anima, if u cant handle running 6:25sec(not using DoL skills), quit playing MMOs, i want to enjoy sights as i travel, its part of my final fantasy enjoyment(yes i know this have lots of copy/paste but if they ever diecided to fix that). I hope once Chocobo comes out, travelling using anima should be restricted to areas that are far or beyond a set distance, or make the anima regenerate slower.
I'm hoping for 100 anima and 200(?) GA when we get back! :p
I think the timer will continue and Anima and GA will continue to accumulate. That way the resets for Leves are the same.
