Poll: I'd sub to the app if I got a free retainer. Otherwise, no.

The only people who need that feature right now are those who have 9 retainers already. I mean, that has to be the vast minority of players.

SE, you'd make a lot more money if you just throw in the extra retainer as part of the 5 dollar sub. You're losing out on an awful lot of extra money (like mine) by making us pay to pay even more...

It gives you the option to hire another one above the previously existing limit, but you still have to purchase it separately IIRC

This "free" retainer would still cost money on top of the game subscription, so no.

I already hate that additional bank storage requires an additional subscription fee, even for regular retainers.

You know you could make some alts and end up with 14 free retainers per world, yeah its a bit boring leveling alts, but hey, they're free and that's more than enough storage!

except without a willing free company or a person to hold your stuff for you between alts, you can't trade items between characters.

Egh I have zero inventory issues so the premium app doesn't interest me. I'll most likely use the freemium version though.

You don't need to level them to use their retainers to sell and using a FC chest it's pretty easy to transfer stuff.

The company chest is indeed handy for transfer of items between alts.

Same. I probably won't even use the free part of the app.

Voted 'No' because our FC already has it's own website with an event calendar and access to Discord.

Since I don't need any of the features offered by the App, I probably won't bother with it at all. I barely use the Lodestone, I don't need another place to check. It definitely wouldn't be worth paying for the Premium version imo, even with an extra retainer.

The extra retainer really should be included in the paid version of the app. Asking us to pay an additional subscription fee to get the opportunity to hire an additional retainer is exceptionally shady.

As shady as Amazon announcing record profits yet deciding to increase the cost of their subscription fee in the same breath. :rolleyes:

I can afford such things, but I have no interest in committing to bad deals. As a hoarder, I might have been tempted to get the premium version of the app if it came with an additional retainer. It'd increase the value for money aspect of it considerably.

You need to unlock retainers in MSQ (like Lv15).

I'll download the app once for the free teleport but I'm not paying for more useless junk. I may not even use the freemium parts of the app after getting the port access. It sounds like busy work.

I was excited because I thought the retainer came with the app subscription. Sounds like a horrible deal now that I know I have to pay an additional amount on top of the additional additional app subscription.

My biggest hope was a more streamlined UI for retainers. The additional retainer with the sub just added enough value to subscribe.

That wouldn’t really make much sense... you can subscribe to the app for $5/month for 1 “free” retainer (you will still be paying for the retainer since you’re paying the $5/month fee to access it), or you can rent a retainer for $2/month from the Additional/Optional Services tab in the Mogstation. Seems like it would be “cheaper” or “a better deal” to just rent the retainer for $2/month to me if all you’re after is extra inventory.

I have one extra retainer currently. If the premium app comes with a free retainer I'll discontinue my extra retainer and then get it back via the app.

Even if you got the retainer with a sub to the app, which you don't, it is anything but 'free'.

It's all about marketing. From my perspective, all the other offerings don't add up to 5 dollars of value to me. Especially since you pay 5 dollars a month to allow you to buy more currency, too. Bad model.

The option to rent an additional retainer is only available for paying the premium subscription; you'd effectively be paying $7/month for the app plus the retainer. Personally, I feel you'd be better off just renting 3 additional retainers (for $6/month added to your subscription) than paying $5/month for 1. Neither option would be "free", so you might as well just take the 3 for $6/month deal if you are just wanting more inventory space. Considering a lot of the premium features probably require Moogle Coins to make good use of (that's more money spent if you want more than your allotted daily), it's just a waste, in my opinion.

The way I read the initial slides was that the retainer was included with the app price, but the digest states unambiguously that that's not the case. I hope the digest is wrong, because that makes absolutely no sense, but honestly even with the retainer included for free I don't think the premium app would be nearly worth it. Especially if, as it seems by the phrasing of the slides, the retainer and saddlebag increases only apply to a single character. Speaking as a crazy person with a lot of alts, that makes the app even less worthwhile.

Agree. That's why I'm saying throw in the retainer at no additional charge. Whetehre it's worthwhile or not is subjective. As it stands currently, the sub is not worthwhile to me. Throw in the retainer and it would be. Ymmv, ofc.

Given that I have no interest in using the app's free services (much less the premium version), I'd basically be paying for an extra retainer at over twice the price of one through the mogstation. Maybe if it had 3x the storage, but even then probably not.

i dont will use the app for some reasons.

1. well, i dont have a mobile and i hate them. (dont judge me im old)
2. why should i spent a sub on top of a sub? this is money-grubbing.
3. this is not a free2play game! every single part what impacts the gameplay (move items from retainer A to retainer B/inventoryspace/etc.) dont should be cost extra. this should be part INSIDE of the game.

i can live with it if some glamstuff cost extra but gameplaystuff that cost money belongs to free2puke games.
i hope the app is failing but i dont belive that this will happen.

Knowing SE and how they deal with crap, I wouldn't be surprised if they say you can't delete the app to be able to keep the teleport. I wouldn't waste space on my phone for this thing, mainly because I have enough space taken up by games as it is. Plus I already have free teleport everywhere with aetheryte tickets which further makes the app useless to me since I have no interest in the premium that gates the useful bits.

Thats the thing about free to play games that really sucks. Its not about OPTIONAL vs non-OPTIONAL. Its the fact that the devs gain incentive to make parts of the game bad, withhold making QoL changes, etc in order to monetize them.

Best example of this is the Story skip potions. The ARR and HW msq is horribly tedious, even to people who haven't completed it before (a vast majority being filler quests having no relation to the main story). SE could have made some of those optional side quests, or abridged them, or even given us the option to skip them once a single char on our accounts had completed them. Instead they left them as is and gave us a solution in the form of yet another micro-transaction. (and in this case they're asking us to pay them to NOT play their game, which is absolutely disgusting)

FFXIV might not be free to play, but its gradually become a "micro-transaction supported" game. Been a slippery slope ever since they introduced extra retainers.

I won't be using the app for anything. It's bad enough that apps give free information about me when there is no cost and SE wants me to pay for that privilege and more for an item I can get at less cost via the Mog Station and better anonymity.

I will use the app. But I will use the free version. The 5$ imo is not worth it

I won't use the app, because I don't have a mobile phone (and I'm still very young too! Old enough for a phone but not old enough not to have a phone, if that makes sense!). Besides, I don't find $5 per month for those features worth it.

Someone that translated the liveletter stated that Yoshida himself said that it would only give you the right to purchase another one and not give you one. Hearing that, reading the digest and seeing how the slide on that side also says that it gives you a way to hire another one just makes this quite certain.

About topic: I wont buy it even if I would get a "free" retainer for it and I also wont even use the app at all. First out of principle because I find that app just really shady in a sub MMO but also because I dont wanto to pay another sub to them..It would still be cheaper to just get two retainers instead of subbing to the app because one retainer alone still has more space than the saddlebag.

I still wouldn’t buy into it even with the retainer included because I just don’t agree with the general direction se is headed with the premium currency, and I feel that the perks of the paid version are too slim to be worth the extra subscription regardless. I’m absolutely not going to pay extra per month for something that’s being advertised as allowing me the ability to pay yet another subscription to access a service that I don’t use because I’ve never agreed with the way se handles the retainer services while skimping out on in-game inventory upgrades as if hoping to force us into buying the retainers. I just can’t wrap my head around any of it.
