That'd be nice. Yoshi-p commented on this and why the project was on stand by. They were planning on supporting some sort of VR compatibility.
I'll link this article:

"But we have had some ideas, speaking with some media of maybe creating some kind of special room, maybe calling it like a Miqo'te paradise, where maybe you pay $50 and you can go in and you know, have some fun with the Miqo'te.
...That "paradise" mentioned sounds like a M-18+ rating the way it's stated.
I think they could do the crafting/gathering in VR. Have it so that your inventory is set out on a blanket, like a picnic, while you're crafting, or have special benches in guild halls/personal(or FC) housing that have ingredients laid out(probably just the ones you need to craft if they are in your inventory, otherwise there is a blank spot where the missing ingredient goes).
Gathering, well, that would be easy enough to do considering what there currently is out there for VR stuff, just incorporate it(hell, take the FFXV fishing one and reskin it for FFXIV fishing!!!) and do the botanist and miner stuff.
Considering how awful everything looks up close, not very awsome.
No, they should purge the entire the game and make a new FFXIV VR only. Players must buy separate weapon controllers in order to play as well. If you want to play as another class you'll need to purchase the weapon set with real money.
//I am joking.
Edit: that Miqo'te paradise sounds kinda....extra.
You mean something like this?
FFXIV in Virtual Reality!
I suppose the Miqote Paradise was more meant as a joke ;P
I do agree with some of the real points made in that article though - specially as someone who tends to get motion sick quite easly and wouldnt be able to use the feature at all due to that (I cant use any VR-stuff - 3D movies are a complete waste on me aswell).
So this gets a "No, thanks" from me for personal health reasons
But also a "No, thanks" considering that I cant really see a general benefit to this. Maybe I have the wrong impression of VR, considering I cant use it, but I dont really expect the current dungeons/combat system to work with it, so we'd probably end up with pouring ressources into re-making open world areas as some sort of walking simulator that most people will stumble through once and then return to normal settings (or ignore it in the first place). Seems like a waste to me...
Only if I can get a peripheral that pets me whenever I get /pet.
Rather than try to shoehorn FFXIV into a VR mode, I think they'd be better off making a Final Fantasy VR spinoff game, independent of all the other Final Fantasy games. This saves them from trying to adapt FFXIV mechanics (such as having to look all around yourself for aoe telegraphs) to a VR setting for which it was never designed.
To be honest, though, I haven't been tremendously impressed with the VR games that I've tried. I'm not sure the technology is really there yet.
FFXIV's texture resolution is too low, IMO. You can get away with low res textures if it's like, cartoon styled or such, but FFXIV isn't...
It’d be fun until you get into a raid. Then you’re blind.
VR can be a lot worse, actually. Some people cant even do it, yu can get pretty severe and violent motion sickness if you can't adapt to it. A lot of games really do shortcuts to minimize that, to the point where don't even move normally, you teleport between locations. And more worrisome is that you can get some form of depersonalization/dissasociation after, a VR hangover is the term.
VR would be slightly terrifying in this game because the game is weird. Seriously, have you seen some of the mobs? They look like something out of Willie Wonka's worst nightmare.
Oh yes. Especially if you aren't used to VR. When I first tried it and finished the VR demo, I was unable to stand for about 5 minutes after (I legit tried to and promptly decked it onto concrete floor). Now that I have a VR headset and have used it a good few times, I've grown resilient to it. But yes, disassociation, depersonalisation, loss of balance and co-ordination, etc. All very much real issues with VR. Be careful when you attempt it.
Hahaha! That's one of my favorite parts in leveling Botany/Mining: I can get reaaaal close to the mobs. Good lord some of the designs truly are terrifying. Those elephant things at Costa del Sol are soul-less looking and Goobbues have TEETH. SO MANY POINTY TEETH.
Could you imagine dungeons or raids in VR though? "How did you manage to stand in the bad!" "I literally couldn't see it because I wasn't looking at my feet!"
Crafting is pretty much identical across all classes, with same actions and animations, so...
Gathering is viable (SE already have a fishing VR already, thanks Noctis) but it'll probably need extra animations at least.
I'd rather run around in Vana'diel. Regardless of the lower texture quality, Vana'diel felt more like a real world.
I've tried VR at a gamescon few years back. Both 90 & 120 FPS and I just get headache, start to see bad, etc.
It's similar when I watch a 3D movie on my 3D TV but less after an hour or so my eyes start to tear and the headache comes.
Playing games on a normal monitor I have no issues, I do however need 60FPS though. On G-sync & Free-sync I can do with less but not too low. Frame stability is another huge drop for me, if frames are jumping around I get headache as well.
Idk how PC works, but you technically can on PS4. Just need to go first person, turn off hud, and plug in ur vr headset. Only down side is u would still need to walk/turn with ur controller instead of looking around.
