SCH Tips/Tricks/Life Hacks?

I'm leveling a Summoner, but I'm definitely cognizant of the fact that healers get faster queues. Not wanting to be a burden on parties with the Healer half of my class, do any SCH mains have any tips, tricks or general quality of life advice they'd like to share?

• Inside dungeons, use Eos
• Outside dungeons, use Selene so she doesn't feel left out
• Use Rouse and Whispering Dawn together for aoe
• Use Rouse and Fey Union together for single target
• You can order the fairy to do stuff while casting
• Keep the pet placed near the party
• Adlo the tank between pulls
• Use targeting macros for Shadowflare and Sacred Soil
• Miasma II is a better movement filler cast than Ruin II
• Eos can be used as a Deployment Tactics base if you want control over the aoe
• Don't be afraid to Dissipate. By the time you've used your free stacks, the cooldown will be up and you'll have 3 more.
• Be liberal with your aetherflow healing abilities. They're strong and MP free

I feel more comfortable with AST as healer, but I use SCH when I'm confident at healing for the day (whichever DR I plan to get into).
- if you're familiar with the instance, and knows when a big AoE will hit the party, pre-cast succor for less spot heals/indomitability as the latter eats up your aether (time it wisely!)
- don't forget to put fairy on obey, especially when switching from SMN (I personally have my ifrit on sic all the time)
- pray you don't have to use lustrate often, but don't forget to use it for emergencies or after you've rezzed someone (while it's OK to spend your aether)
- if paired with AST, be wary of their stance, let them know to change it if they're on Nocturnal unless you're not planning to use your shields then carry on

Rouse and Fey Union do nothing together. This is bad advice. Fey Union is an ability and is not affected by Fey Union.

Also Rouse and Whispering Dawn can (and should) always be used together.

Would like to add that you should pay attention to traits at 70! Your final trait allows you to shave time off of Aetherflow by using Aethercharges: an amazing use of Dissipation for DPS increase and MP recovery if there’s been a lot of “oops” in a fight. Just remember to resummon Eos after as the ability does not (unfortunately) function like Demi-Bahamut.

Sometimes Scholar can feel like its healing potency from its spells is low and this is true to some extent since half your heals create shields for most of their effective value. Don't forget you can pump up your numbers with Largesse, Fey Illumination, and Dissipation. Fey Illumination is really interesting because all healing spells benefit from this buff on the party meaning you increase your cohealers output too. If you don't have Indomitability in an instance your biggest contribution as a healer is pre emptive shields but after you gain Indomitability you will have to judge whether shielding at a huge cost of MP is necessary when you can refill the entire groups health for free with Indom. Your cool downs are low with Scholar so try to rely on Aether Skills except Sacred Soil. Its not useful much outside Savage Content or Signature Boss Attacks and can waste valuable healing skills.

Bind fairy "place" action onto one of your mouse buttons, mouse 4 or 5 if you have it.

About this, pre-casting Succor is generally bad in terms of efficiency. Here is why:
- Succor's full potency (assuming no overheal) is 375. Indom is 500.
- Pre-casting Succor will likely result in overheal, which will consequentially reduce the effective potency you're going to take advantage of (if you only take advantage of the shield, it's only 225 potency).
- On the other hand, Indom is generally used after damage has occured, meaning less chance of overheal.
- Succor is the most expensive SCH spell outside of Ressurection.
- Succor eats a GCD.

Personally, the only situations where I use Succor are the following:
- People will die to the next AOE without a shield (generally this will only happen in Ex Content/Savage, people need to be really low to die to dungeon/NM content AOE damage)
- Having a shield will make healing after the next mechanic much easier (again, generally not applicable to content outside of Savage)
- I'm not wasting effective GCDs - i.e., the boss/enemy isn't targettable at that point, like before they cast their Ultimate skill on Ex primals.

TL;DR: It's more effective to heal AOE splash damage with Indom after the hit since it only costs an Aetherflow stack, than trying to shield it and waste a GCD/MP if people won't die to said hit.

I agree with these numbers, but to clarify, I never said use succor instead of indomitability, and I did specify big AoE not every AoE. also, succor and whispering dawn are the only available AoE heals for an SCH below 52, I think pre-casting succor to mitigate incoming aoe dmg during battle isn't exactly illogical unless, like you listed you're aiming for optimal healing performance.

A very common thing I see in scholars these days is poor aetherflow rotation. Using aetherflow stacks gives 5 seconds of aetherflow CDR, so... use them! Energy drain, lustrate, whatever. Just don't sit on them.

Let the fairy heal.

Too many scholars let the tank drop low, then heal the tank all the way up.
Much better to stop healing at 60% health, shield the tank, and let the fairy do the rest.

There's also the trick of controlling the fairy's Embrace, basically controlling who it heals. While its effective, this is an advanced skill for really proficient players.

For less proficient players, it can lead to healing only one target and ignoring others. It also requires far more mental processing; processing which can be used to watch out for mechanics. This leads to dead DPS, or the sudden need for multiple succors to save the party. Both of which are bad.

The main thing that intimidates me is basically having to manage two entity's positioning, my own and the fairy's, to make sure I'm not out of range of the tank to heal them. Can anyone give me some advice how to mitigate this, or to better move Eos/Selene independent of my own movements?

While placement of the faerie is important 9/10 times she can just follow you. And if your spell/AoE can reach the party, so can hers. Placement is really important when you need to be a significant distance away to avoid some mechanics, or to just keep yourself out of harms way: Phantom Train, A9/S, A12/S, T5, and I'm sure there are more. But, usually the battle field is a circle, and the distance you'd normally stay at to keep yourself safe is good for her as well, since most of the time the boss/mob is tanked dead center.

That being said, the really important thing is controlling yiur faerie by having her on Obey, and manually entering her skills.

Is there any situation where I would want to use Selene over Eos?

Eos has a tremendous healing output and sometimes there just wont be very much damage to heal through. If you have good gear and are synced down for 50/60 dungeons you will notice that Eos is actually so overpowered she is useless because Selene could handle the exact same workload with just Embrace. Some Scholars are scared to use Selene but once you get a feel for a boss fight or dungeon you can tell when it's safe to bring her out and enjoy the Haste she provides worry free.

Anybody have tips for healing massive pulls? I find myself having a very hard time trying to keep up with the tank. I put adlo prepull and excog. Once everything is gathered though, I put up whispering dawn. Once excog is used and adlo is gone though I find their health just drops pretty fast. Sometimes I have to spam lustrate. Physick doesn't really seem to cut it either.

You gotta know which pulls will be big (there are a couple groups in each dungeon that I deem as troublesome in healing.) I excog the tank as he's pulling (after I put a dot on a mob for the gauge), use whichever fairy spell is up (I use Selene), connect him to my fairy with aetherpact, and activate largesse with emergency tactics. ET only has a 20 second CD so you can use it fairly regularly. Then I use lust and psychic/adlo as filler. Knowing which packs of mobs will be trouble and gathering the necessary increase to your gauge helps a lot. I didn't use the aetherpact a lot when I first turned 70 but I use it a whole ton now. In every dungeon, just about. Certainly in raids.
