It can pull inspiration from prior jobs in any given game, but must be heavily retailored to stand out as XIV's own, in a way that makes the job more attractive in the game's context. Likewise, it can pull inspiration from jobs in other games or franchises entirely.

Lunar Shaman

Inspiration: Gau(FF6), Blue Magic

Weapon: Beastclaw (Unlike Monk arms, these vambraces, gauntlets, or knuckle weapons are intended to rend and tear, and often are direct trophies from the beasts they have killed.)

Region: Othard - The Azim Steppe / That Desert Nearby

Lore: The constant conflict in the Azim Steppe did not only used to be for dominance of the land. Lost to time, the Lunar Shaman was part mortal, part beast, engaging in the thrill of the hunt, but for the sole purpose of garnering strength for the Lunar Cry.

The belief that on a fateful night, the moon will scream and from it, a stream of beasts the manner of which no one had seen before would tumble down upon the steppes, and for that night, a hunt like no other would take place. In the matter of hours, a hunter would need adapt to creatures unheard of, lest they become a meal themselves. To mimic the strength of their prey. The way they move, the way they stalk, the greatest strengths turned into their greatest weakness.

This belief faded with time, and with it, the Lunar Shaman's role in the Azim Steppe faded. For all they fought were each other, and the claws could only be sharpened so much against a singular foe, and so they ventured off to leave the tribes to their games, and to seek greater prey.

Until now.

Identity: Mobile Melee DPS that focuses on tight stance windows that greatly change their weaponskill efficiency.

Role: Non-damage utility Melee.

Unique Mechanics: Rage - The Lunar Shaman is most comfortable when lost within their primal instincts. Long hours are spent ingraining the behavior of their various prey, drawing upon these instincts to replace their own when they clear their mind. The Lunar Shaman gradually generates Rage when not taking damage in combat. Rage is used on certain abilities and empower Leaps.

Leaps: The Lunar Shaman's Leaps are Gap Closers and Gap Makers that cause them to take on the aspects of the creatures around the Steppe, and those they've encountered in their travels. So great is their frenzy that their allies also take part. The deadliest hunters are those that roam in packs after all. Leaps share CDs with each other, and cannot be used to enter the same stance you are in.

Examples

Dismal Dodo: Leap to your enemy, and take on the instincts of a Dodo, embracing the wild, unpredictable nature. Upon entering Dismal Dodo, Rage is reduced to 0, and you grant yourself and allies Movement Speed based on the Rage lost for ten seconds. Your Weaponskills hit all enemies within range, and you generate Rage for each enemy hit.

Whiplash: Leap away from your enemy, and take on the instincts of the Vine-Whip-Monster-Whose-Name-I-Can't-Remember-Right-Now. Upon entering Whiplash, Rage is reduced to 0, and enemies near you and your target have their attack speed reduced based on the rage lost for 10 seconds. Your Weaponskills Range is increased to 10y and ignore positional requirements, and generate Rage on hit.

Weaponskill Kit: Instead of granting Buffs / delivering DoTs, the Lunar Shaman's Combo Finishers place an effect upon the target enemy, empowering the other Combo Finishers.

Examples

Rend: Places Rend on the target, causing Tear to hit twice, and Gore to restore health.
Tear: Places Tear on the target, causing Rend to generate Rage, and Gore to reduce Cooldown timers.
Gore: Places Gore on the target, causing Rend to deal more damage when the target's hp is lower, and for Tear to increase buff durations by 4 seconds.

Where does it fit: A flexible melee combatant, bringing non-damage utility. In the world where this would exist, party damage skills in general would be culled, though in the current scene, this could be somewhat alleviated by simply having some Leap's having Attack Speed and Direct Hit bonuses for a short duration (As most other party buffs are Crit and +Damage)

Why non-damage utility: Party damage buffs are boring, but effective. Being able to provide a party with Sprint, life drain, etc tends to be under valued, but I'll take these over another "3% more damage" buff any day.

"Stop Bleeding: The gunslinger makes a firearm attack and then presses the hot barrel against herself or an adjacent creature to staunch a bleeding wound. Instead of dealing damage, the shot ends a single bleed condition affecting the creature."

A job originating from the need to have a combat medic, but with the lack of mastery of mana, a sect of soldiers found ways to staunch the wounds of themselves and their allies. Though definitely unrefined, this sect, branding themselves "Corpsmen" have found many ways to bandage and strap together allies in the midst of the battlefield with weapons of war.

The idea of the job would revolve around doing damage to heal.

But not necessarily the enemy.

Cauterizing a wound comes to mind: that entails burning a wound to stop the bleeding as I understand it. So the idea behind the healer would be they harm the tank, but in harming them they create shields that lower incoming damage. Perhaps a dot that ticks for 50 potency damage on the tank, then 100 potency for a heal immediately after.

Its weapon would be a gun.

This is probably a really bad idea for a healer, and very counter intuitive. But it's something that has been rattling about in my head for a bit.

Honestly, this sounds like a direction they could have taken machinist in, as a ranged support class.
Not sure it's different enough to make a whole other job out of it.

I have a couple of ideas to post but not the time to write it up just now.

A scythe-wielding necromancer healer is something I would've liked to see.

A Dancer with few attacks but tons of buffs and debuffs. You will have a system kinda like Ninja mudras where you have skills that you activate in a combo-like sequence. Instead of knowing when to press what mudra and remembering the combos like ninjas do...you'd receive a proc every GCD or every few GCDs and if you press the corresponding button for that proc youd get a chain like greased lightning..When you mess up your chain breaks and you would stop applying your buffs/debuffs/etc temporarily and start your chain at 0. The bigger the chain, the bigger the buff/debuff potency up until certain percent..

Example: You select a song. Say, "Song Of Pain" which will be a weak aoe song that hurts any enemies within range. It pops a proc, "Red." Now you must press the "Red" skill to continue the song and gain increased potency up to something like 15%. If you press "Blue" instead on accident, you gain nothing and lose any existing stacks and end your current chain.

Just imagine Guitar Hero or Rock Band if you have played either. It would feel kinda like that.

Effects songs could have:
Seduce - lower damage dealt by enemies ??%.
Taunt - Increase enemy attack but lower accuracy significantly.
Rally/Battle Cry/Cheer - tp/hp/mp regen songs(not together in one song).
Pain - Damage to all enemies in a circle around the player.
Stat buff songs like Critical hit chance + small amount.
Songs for mitigation of like 5%.

That sort of thing. Of course I didnt take the time to make the idea balanced so it might seem crazy without readjusting the numbers lol.

I would imagine a dancer using fans or clothing. Like how a monk uses gloves, a dancer could use bracelets or something. I also would like to see dancer actions fitting in with the lore as ancient techniques used by something like Vierra if they get introduced or by a mischievous band of traveling gypsy like characters.(im not good with writting \o/ ..so sue me)

Lore: bodyguard to Emporor or high ranking officials based out of Kugane (I'm not good at lore, but basic idea, and i wanted to post here)
Meta: can still use in game tank armour; defensive CD's would be wind based, same with attacks.

This is a simple explanation, but as a new class this would be cool (barring SE can't get in trouble from the Naruto people)

Also, I think with the way the story in Stormblood ended in 4.1 that it might be likely to see in the future.

Ok, time for my idea, Magitek Knight...

My proposal is for a Magitek themed, Gunblade wielding Tank, with the damage absorbing mechanics of a Rune Knight, and the flavour of a Blue Mage in its spellset.
A lot of jobs combined? No different from the Time Mage/Astrologer/Gambler called Astrologian.

In terms of Lore, it is the Garlean philosophy of claiming the power of the eikons for their own which serves as the basis. Job Quests would centre around seeking out the power of beast tribes or primals, and repurposing it as a new magitek skill/spell, while facing off against the Garlean agents who are after you for stealing their technology, potentially coming to blows with Nero.
As for name, I think it should all come under the moniker of ‘Magitek Knight’, as the magitek is the source of its power and the basis of its lore. Abbreviation? MGK?

The signature job mechanic would be a Magitek Paling (force-field) that increases defence, and allows damage received to be converted into the Job Gauge (hereby referred to as Magitek Gauge or MG) which caps at 100.
Each hit taken increases this gauge by 1, and in addition, every 5% of HP lost will increase the gauge by 0.5.
This gauge is then expended in the form of a burst-style DPS stance akin to Dark Arts/Blood Weapon, or to use the top ticket abilities, which would predominantly be Blue Magic, with the wide range of utility you’d expend from Blue Magic.

An additional gauge would be displayed with six slots, one for each element. Being attacked by an elemental attack would fill the respective slot.
In addition, any non-elemental hit you receive would have a 5% chance of filling one of these slots at random.
These elemental charges can be used to power up certain elemental attacks, or used for top ticket spells.
This sort of functions similarly to SAM’s Sen or MCH’s Ammo, however it’s triggered like a RNG Dark Arts, so you can control when you use it and on what skill, but not when you gain it.

So kinda like a more dynamic Paladin with some MCH and DRK mechanics thrown in.



Skill set:
My first hand tanking experience is entirely with Dark Knight, so I’ve used that as a sort of template, at least for the basics, just to make sure it all fits. Potencies and cooldown times are obviously hypothetical and I’m sure would need to be tweaked, but you should get the gist of it.



Lv 1 Cutting Trigger
Swipe of the blade with a simultaneous blast of the gun.
100 potency damage and increases enmity. Costs TP.

Lv. 3 Shear Trigger
Uppercut of the blade with a simultaneous blast of the gun.
110 potency damage and increases enmity. Costs TP.
Combo with Cutting Trigger: 180 potency.

Lv. 6 Icebrand
Trigger an ice-aspected magic round as you stab with the blade.
Physical 120 potency damage. Costs TP.
Combo with Cutting Trigger: 160 potency.
25% chance to proc Blazefire.
Magitek Overdrive Bonus: Gain 5 Magitek Gauge.
Ice Aspected Energy Bonus: +50 potency, Guarantees Blazefire Proc.

Lv. 10 Power Conversion
50 potency regen on self for 15 seconds. 90s cooldown. Costs MP.

Lv. 12 Punishment
Forward stab of the blade with a simultaneous blast of the gun.
120 potency damage and increases enmity. Costs TP.
Combo with Shear Trigger: 210 potency.
Magitek Paling Bonus: Builds enmity with all enemies in 5y radius.

Lv. 15 Magic Missile
Fire an aetherial missile from the gunblade into the air, homes in on target. (Matra Magic analogue)
Single target, ranged. Deals 50 potency damage and increases enmity. Costs MP.
Damage increases with targets HP. (up to 150 potency if target is at 100% HP)
(Like AST’s Essential Dignity, but offensive, works great as an opener, which is what it should be)

Lv. 18 Thundershard
Trigger a lightning-aspected magic round as you overhead-cleave with the blade.
Physical 140 potency damage. Costs TP.
Combo with Icebrand: 200 potency.
50% chance to proc Blazefire.
Magitek Overdrive Bonus: Adds a 40 potency DoT over 9s.
Lightning Aspected Energy Bonus: +50 potency, Guarantees Blazefire Proc.

Lv. 20 1000 Needles
Expel a wave of hypercharged aether particles in all directions.
10y radial AoE. 100 potency AoE damage split between targets, maximum of 1000 damage split between targets. Increases enmity. Costs MP.
Magitek Paling Bonus: Increases radius to 15y.
(Sabotender Job Quest)

Lv. 25 Blazefire
Trigger a fire-aspected magic round as you spin-cleave with the blade.
Physical 80 potency 5y radial AoE damage. Costs TP.
If proc’ed with Icebrand/Thundershard: 140 potency AoE.
Magitek Overdrive Bonus: Adds an additional 100 potency to make 180 or 240 total if proc’ed.
Fire Aspected Energy Bonus: +60 potency

-Magitek Gauge becomes available-

Lv. 30 Magitek Paling
Duration: Permanent, toggle on/off. (tank stance)
Decrease physical attack power by 10%, increase damage resistance by 10%, doubles Magitek Gauge rate. Costs MP.
Cannot be used when under Magitek Overdrive effect.

Lv. 30 Magitek Overdrive
Increase physical attack power and skill speed by 15%, drains Magitek Gauge at 5/s. Duration: 30 seconds or until Magitek Gauge is empty.
Cancels Magitek Paling effect. 90s cooldown. If MG is fully drained, Magitek Paling is placed on a 10s cooldown. (Burst DPS stance)
All Aspected Energies Bonus: No Magitek Gauge drain.

Lv. 35 Stoneskin
20% physical damage reduction on self for 12s. 90s cooldown. Costs MP.
Earth Aspected Energy Bonus: 30% physical damage reduction over 15s.
(Golem Job Quest)

Lv. 40 Rough Divide
Lunge towards target with an attack that deals 180 potency damage.
60s cooldown. Costs TP.

Lv. 45 Fated Circle
Spin attack that deals 100 potency damage to all targets in a 5y radial AoE.
60s cooldown. Costs TP.

Lv. 50 Blasting Zone
Fire a particle beam dealing 140 potency damage to all targets in a 15y corridor in front of you.
60s cooldown. Costs TP.

Lv. 52 Magic Hammer
Single target, 10% magic power reduction debuff for 12 seconds. Fills Magitek Gauge by 25 points. 90s cooldown. Costs MP.

Lv. 54 Aqualung
Water spell, cone AoE 150 potency damage, costs 20MG, 30s cooldown.
Water Aspected Energy Bonus: +50 potency
(Sahagin Job Quest)

Lv. 56 White Wind
Recover 20% current HP of self and any party members in 10y radius, costs 40MG, 90s cooldown.
Wind Aspected Energy Bonus: 30% HP recovery.
(Job quest, Sylphs? Instead of stealing the skill, they give it to you)

Lv. 58 Degenerator
Ground target AoE field, 10% magic vulnerability up for 10s. Costs 30MG, 90s cooldown.
(As a technical 'Blue Mage' it has synergy/utility with casters)

Lv. 60 Aspect Enhancement
Primes Elemental Energy Signature to be used via the next viable skill. Costs 5MG.
(Energy Aspect Gauge and Aspected Energy Bonuses become available)

Lv. 62 Aetheric Overload
Deal damage to all enemies in 10y radius that scales with your HP.
100 potency base plus 20 for every 5% HP (maximum of plus 400 for 500 total)
Expend all but 1 HP, gain a damage shield equal to your max HP for 3 seconds. Costs ALL MG. 180s cooldown.
All Aspected Energies Bonus: +100 base potency, damage shield for 6 seconds.
(Basically the Self Destruct enemy skill, repurposed as the last-resort/death-cheat tank skill)

Lv. 64 Blaster
Targeted 5y AoE 40 potency damage, increases enmity. Costs 5MG.
All Aspected Energies Bonus: +100 potency and inflicts Blind and Silence for 3s.

Lv. 70 Mighty Guard
Extend Magitek Paling to all party members within 10y radius, giving them a 20% damage reduction buff.
Drains Magitek Gauge at 5/s. Can only be used when under Magitek Paling effect.
Duration: 15 seconds or until Magitek Gauge is empty. 180s cooldown.

Lv. 72 Arctic Wind
Deals 200 potency damage to all enemies in a corridor AoE in front of and behind you, also inflicts Slow.
Can only be used with Wind and Ice Aspected Energies. 120s cooldown. Costs MP

lv. 76 Unfettered Growth
Bestow a 15% damage reduction buff on a target, plus each hit that target receives restores 2% of their HP and 2% of your HP (4% of your HP is used on yourself) 15s duration.
Can only be used with Water and Earth Aspected Energies. 120s cooldown. Costs MP

Lv. 80 Betawave
Stuns and deals 300 potency damage to all enemies in a 15y radial AoE.
Can only be used with Fire and Lightning Aspected Energies. 120s cooldown. Costs MP

Aspect Enhancement Explanation:
As you take hits, you'll notice your six elemental icons light up somewhat randomly.
When you activate Aspect Enhancement, all available elements will glow. E.g. you have Fire, Wind and Lightning, they all glow when you use this skill.
When you then activate a skill that consumes these energies, that energy is spent and goes dark again. E.g. You use Blazefire, the Fire icon goes dark, and the Wind and Lightning icons stop glowing, no longer activated.
You can hit it again to trigger the Wind and Lightning energies again to be used on say White Wind or Thundershard.
You take some more hits and notice Water and Fire energies light up again, and repeat.

Most skills are only enhanced by these elemental energies similarly to Dark Arts, however the post SB skills Arctic Wind, Unfettered Growth and Betawave, can ONLY be used by consuming their respective energies, more like Iaijutsu.

Everytime he gets whacked down, he gets back up annoyingly so you have to whack him down again (i.e. self-Resurrects)

Illusionist/Dancer.
Healer.

The 'Dance' function would define the job, I'm thinking of it in terms of being a little bit like a "reverse mudra".
You hit Dance I (an oGCD ability,) then perform 3 GCD actions, and Dance I is saved as a special dance action that can be placed to provide a mix of the abilities used instantly.
For example:
Dance I, AoE heal, regen, AoE heal. This would save a dance that does a moderate AoE heal with a weak regen.
Dance II, Regen, regen, ST heal. Creates a dance that places a moderate regen effect with a weak instant heal.
Dance III, basic attack, basic attack, AoE heal. Does moderate damage to the targeted enemy and drops a weak instant AoE heal.

Most GCD abilities would use TP, your 'dance' ability created illusions would use MP.

I'm thinking the job gauge would basically exist to spell out what you've got saved in your various dance combos.
