Miss the day when dev puts out a road map

I wonder if devs could return to put out road maps for ffxiv.

I miss when Yoshi P first did this. I wish the devs team would make effect return to put out road maps

Any examples of what this was? I joined during 2.0 beta

They used to give us more details on future things... and then the community took up pitchforks when they didn't implement it or changed their minds (for technical or practical reasons?).

At least it seems that way to me and now they only tell us something when it's pretty much set in stone.

Was this back when the game was a total mess? (only hearsay as I'm new here) If so it was probably a sort of damage control; just to let people know things will get better. Now that the game is in fairly good shape they probably feel it's unnecessary.

Sounds like a good thing to bring back though.

Just look ath XI and their road maps. There's a lot of things didn't get put in when the road map said it would, got scrapped, or pushed back. It's bad enough when we get told about a new feature and either A) never hear about it again B) rarely hear about it C) It keeps on getting shoved back. How many people would have lost their minds even more if Eureka was on a road map? I mean the damn app has been in the works for years. Look how long it took for egi glamours to come out. Road maps are nice, but you're really going to say people aren't going to get just as mad if not more if the thing they've been looking forward to doesn't come out the month it was said to happen in? Or if the next one they show now doesn't have it listed at all?

I meant about the first year or so of ARR being released and possibly you're right, but one example is the housing demolition. Originally it was said that there wouldn't be any housing demolition/maintenance, but obviously that later changed. However people still throw that quote back at them. It doesn't seem to matter that the quote was made before housing was even released, or that we as the community were complaining about inactive houses/wanted them removed (so they did...), people still shout about it.

Good shape yes, but the problem of sticking to a tight schedule is still an issue and the lynch mob community still being here too. Look at Eureka and how much that was pushed back. They didn't really release any details on it until it was set in stone and nearly here. I'm sure that went through many changes before it was released as it is now (and even then a lot of people were unhappy with what we got).

I agree, it'd be great, but as we've seen from experience, if they say something and change their mind later (for any reason!), the community has a go at them. They're going to continue to try and minimise that as much as possible.

They probably won't. People will just get mad when they keep delaying stuff that was "supposed" to be out or things that get canned while in development and never see the light of day. (Look at Eureka, imagine if that thing was on a "roadmap" for an entire year.) If I was them I wouldn't do it either. It basically got replaced by the livestreams where the scope is + - a couple months which is much more workable. Other companies have realized that announcing things before they are ready usually isn't a good idea.

The same happened with activision-blizzard and wow expansions.
When wod (and arguably any prior exp) was announced they announced more that they could actually implement and were very open about their intentions but once they had to tell that much of their ideas had to be cut and the resulting bad feedback from the community because of that, they started beign much more closed about devs stuff and releasing the bare minimun infos to avoid riots.
I know this because I was one of those very angry and vocal about this and frankly I can't hide behind me beign critical and just sending a feedback card which imho too many ppl use.

This game is already extremely predictable, I didn't even list the extra eureka maps or deep dungeon, but while we don't know when they will be added, we know they are in the roadmap.

But yeah, the roadmap alimdia provided seems the most legit. It's as predictable as knowing what the school cafeteria will be serving for lunch (pizza again? really??). I want to be surprised, but I guess that ain't happening in XIV. Oh well. /wine

What if the surprise will be nothing as in literally nothing, mind you it'll happen I'm sure of it.

But Let me ask you however this.
Will you be ok with a longer patch delay but with real new content or will you prefer a formula BUT all the new infrastructure shifted to an expansion release (for example aquapolis, potd and everything else at SB release instead of their normal release).

Yoshi already stated the Eureka updates were going to be every half patch.

I'm not sure a road map would make a difference right now. I mean, we can craft 90% of it ourselves; new dungeons here and here, new Alliance raids here, new Savage / Ultimate stuff there...

Personally, rather than missing the road map itself, I miss feeling excitement at what a road map might contain. I haven't really felt that since 1.x and the first couple of update cycles for ARR. Since then, it's very much felt like the development team is treading water, lacking the motivation / talent / resources to actually build out FFXIV properly. Until the development malaise improves, a road map would just be a reminder of precisely how stale FFXIV's updates have become.

Well to be fair they promised a lot and delivered very little. And if they would have taken the time to say "We are sorry but A couldn't be implemented due to technical difficulties so we switched priority to B and A likely wont be implemented as promised if at all" it wouldn't have been such an issue.

The issue lays in the way they handle their PR or their lack there of. They have very little want to communicate with the community and just never talk about things again when they move on or can't do something. Nor do they directly comment on concerns or questions. If they would be more open about their development and engage their audience more there would be a lot more trust and a lot less pitchforks.

Yoshi made so many grand promises about content and even things like housing pre 2.0 and then when they didn't deliver he just never mentioned it again and now just dodges any questions. So many of us, esp us legacy people, take everything said worth a grain of salt, not only in this game but in other SE titles as well. They mention something for XV, VII remake, X-3...I will believe it when I see it.

Idk if its a cultural thing or what but when you have a global market and a majority of your customers are from NA you need to take that into consideration when it comes to how you engage that audience. They cannot survive on name alone for that much longer if it feels like they keep pulling fast ones on us.

Please Yoshi P bring the road maps. here some way you solve it give time frames

No need for road maps if the game won't be significantly changing. They only did that during 1.x because the game was so broken and they needed to show players they were working toward some kind of workable goals.
