Eureka: Like it or hate it, life once again returns.

Say what you will about Eureka but it has done more to breath life into the forums and in game than any new content since stormblood launch and even that was short lived.

I'm enjoying the content so far for what it is. I do see room for improvement but its not so bad that it should be scrapped and redone. Some QoL adjustments, like prioritizing mobs over players, among others. Also expand on what we currently have like NM's, Rewards, Zones, etc. Compared to Both iterations of Diadem, LoV, the now dead PotD, and despite the vocal complainers on the forums I have yet to join an instance at any time of the day that feels dead. There are always trains and farming going on, that doesnt really support the "terrible content, much bad, no play" mentality that the forums would lead you to believe.

I think this says more about the mediocre tepidity of Stormblood's other content than the quality of Eureka.

Once you've eaten nothing but tasteless porridge for a year, even a single moldy bean will count as "shaking things up".

Hrmm well I love SB and Eureka. Neither are perfect especially Eureka but I truly do enjoy both. Maybe this game just isn't for you?

I've played this game for five years now, so it's not as if I don't enjoy the core gameplay on a fundamental level.

I don't think it's entirely unfair to expect or hope for even minor gameplay variety over the course of those five years, is it?

It's not as if I'm looking for something drastic like a complete change to the combat system.

You said everything,since Stromblood we got "less content ,but more different one" been several month already and....... nothing,so we just got less content and some farm.
Sure eureka change while looking to other thing,but nonetheless,stormblood stay one of the epmptiest expension so far

So you don't think Eureka, POTD or any of the new classes qualify as even minor additions to gameplay?

Your problem is you don't like what is being added, not that nothing is being added.

I mean, you're not wrong. But I don't think how often the content is played is a good indication of its quality when playing it or not getting your relic are the only two options. It's either Eureka or explore the vast wealth of other available endgame content.

Thinking about it, sacrificing one dungeon wasn't a bad thing. Let's be honest for a moment, dungeons in this game aren't great. Doing roulettes is a chore and I'd rather have some variety. The only benefit of dungeons is that they are not short lived, as you can get them anytime in the future when doing a roulette.

It's been one week.

Rival Wing queues were still less than 5 minutes a week after it's launch. The real test is going to be a month or two out. I'm not trying to rain on anyone's parade, but every patch brings back a surge of people for at least a few weeks. If Eureka is still jam packed and active after a month, then great, I'm glad people are still having fun. More power to 'em. But this borderline "lol all you haters are wrong, Eureka = da best" bs is wack. At least give it time lol.

Palace of the Dead was released in Heavensward which I consider by-and-large to be a decent expansion. Other examples of good gameplay variation are Gold Saucer and its accoutrements, Lord of Verminion (despite how much flak it gets), the different PvP modes, the class changes made in Stormblood, and others.

Of course, I'm not arguing that Eureka isn't "new" by the literal definition of the word "new", I'm not an idiot.

That said, I think it's silly to think that Eureka is variably different from Hunts.

There's not much point to debating it in detail since I'm probably going to get picked on over the definition of "new" and "variation", so I'll just give examples.

1). Making the Magia board essential rather than just a tepid damage boost. You cannot damage something without the correct element, making it necessary to strategize and manage board rotations based on what kind of monsters you want to hunt. This would make putting 5 magia all in different elements a somewhat viable strategy if you're looking to hunt a variety of monsters.

2). Eureka is a dangerous place, so adventurers have to defend settlements. You could mix this with crafting/gathering classes to rebuild and reinforce settlements after they've been attacked by dangerous monsters, or building defenses like usable cannons or barricades against the next attack.

3). Exploration goals: the expedition will give you rewards for going into dangerous areas and planting beacons, necessitating that you stealth your way through areas. What this does is add an additional dimension to dodging monsters, and if you make the monsters in this area very high level (level 30, for example) it allows Level 20s to feel a sense of danger as well.

And yes, if you want to use a ridiculous reductionist fallacy, dungeons and raids are all "the exact same" thing with different window dressing: spamming a rotation in hallway. That is a pretty core gameplay mechanic of FFXIV. Again, I'm not arguing for changing the fundamental core of the game. You can keep a strong core while having reasonably different variations of it.

Maybe HW was a decent expansion (I think so too), but at this exact time the opinion of HW was terrible and the game was really in a terrible state, if we have to do a 1:1 comparison atm the game is much better now than how it was in HW.

Frankly the [current expansion] is bad the [one before it] was much better is essentially a staple in MMO gaming

Tbh dropping that extra dungeon which was going to be mostly a reskin of an old one brought a chance to the endgame raiding, now raid gear has a meaning if you wish to tackle ultimate also what I'm warm about eureka is about the fact that a group of ppl that doesn't know each other spends some time together creating a cohesive group (well this is a personal opinion ofc).
It was something missing in the MMO genre of late. In fact I believe that the grinding and anything related to it isn't the really content in eureka but the social aspect of it is and let's be honest some of the problems of the lower levels can also be fixed by us as much as the company which imho still has to do her part

Just for the record, I didnt say ANYTHING about Eureka being "quality" content. I meant it is creating more conversation on the forums and I am seeing more people in the game than I have since PotD or the launch of an expansion. either because they like the new content, hate it and want their opinion heard, or are curious what all the fuss is about.

1) What Elemental Level are you? Just curious. Cause I'm only 15 and I can tell you if I dont have the correct magia board on for damage, I'm doing 10's of thousands less damage than if i have the correct one active. Same for tanking, the higher leveled NM's will wreck you if you arent in the right elemental setting.

2) I would love them to add in Hamlet Defense to the next stage of Eureka, that would be amazing! I would also love to see them bring back 1.0's Black shroud to another Eureka map but have it procedurally generated so its different for each instance and confusing to navigate (why? I guess I'm a sadist...)

3) Well, they have mobs that are triggered by sound (Fan Mobs) and by the use of magic to close to them (sprites) and I know there are areas that I cant easily get to if i didnt have the protection of the NM Train. There will be more Isles added for the next stages of the relic (Anemos is the Isle of Wind, read into that what you will), I'm positive thats where the devs went who used to make dungeons, putting that talent to something new.

Eureka is far from perfect but I do like how it functions differently than other content currently in the game, my only lament is that this wasnt the overworld in general from the get go.

I'm currently Level 15 (with the requisite Magicite) and the only time the board noticably speeds up killtimes is when I'm fighting things vastly below me.

The defensive bonuses are nothing to sneeze at, sure, but for the most part it's not particularly detrimental to be attuned to an irrelevant element, making the element system and the Magia board a gimmick rather than a core mechanic.

Level is far more important than the Magia board for surviving and dealing damage.

Yes, the level definitely makes a big difference, if you are too low leveled compared to the mob, even the magia board wont help, but that is kind of the point. It does make a difference when fighting your level or lower as is intended. I mean, you could not bother but then you are hobbling yourself and your party (unless its the NM train then who knows if you even make a difference farming the mobs)

It's like the old saying: "MAD Magazine was at it's best right before you started reading it."

I recall HW early on as being a thing I quit. When I came back it was at the tail end and it was awesome, but I didn't have tons of waiting around for the storyline to be filled in. It was all handed to me on a platter.

Games seemed alive and vibrant to me since I started playing mid HW and hasn't ever slowed down. Content has always been good. Maybe it's just becuase I've played games which were actually dead, and know what that is.

I know exactly how you feel. I played WoW during Warlords of Draenor, the expansion that nearly killed the game. People I knew were quitting or taking breaks left right and centre. Many very very old guilds fell apart or stagnated. Cities were noticeably far less populated. It was a very sad time for the game. Although I don't play it anymore I'm glad it has redeemed itself enough to keep going strong.

Some people seem to think XIV is already a sinking ship. I'm certainly not seeing signs of this. Eureka has been very divisive but most players still have enough fun in the rest of the game to keep going happily.

I dunno SB has been a steaming pile compared to HW. SE needs to switch it up

YMMV. I am actively looking for a new game to play until next raid tier. Multiple circles are pretty much just doing Eureka in the evenings, and I don't want to commit to that kind of a grind after work or trying to semi-match their level. At least with Diadem, that didn't matter.

Normally I like to help out with Savage learning parties or run normals with an FC I hang out in on my alt, but even those are drying up right now, so outside of my own weekly clears there's literally nothing I want and my sub lapses in a week.

Didn't they say they were going to update Eureka on every odd-numbered patch? The patch that will just have one dungeon? I think I recall that but it's been so long. I think that would be a good pace to keep the place active if the rewards are spaced out enough. Most people I know haven't really bothered with it much yet, but that's largely because they're waiting for the lockboxes to not projectile confetti all over their inventories.

Supposedly the zones are 4 so they'll have do update it at least 3 times

I for the life of me haven't played ffxiv for so many hours in a day since launch all I do is login to expert dungeon and log off and login for static raid and log off...

But ever since eureka... Man 14 hours a day in eureka for the past 4 days

It was a fun experience for me but it's rather dead for me at this point I would go only if my friend ask me to tag along for body guard service

I really question your ability to look close enough. I am not sure when and if it started in 2.0, but mid HW+ it def followed this:

Every time there was a new feature or patch, housing esp, activity raised exponentially. After a month or so of the "big patch" activity declined. FFXIV activity acts as a wave where activity contentiously goes up and down depending where the game is at during patch cycles and what the patch did. Some patches got a small spike in activity few days to a week before a release for a new patch to prepare for it.

mid HW this was def taking place though and all though SB, it is the same pattern. One of the SB patches took longer then normal causing the dive to be more felt, it was after.. 4.1 to sigma release I believe, it had a 2 month slow period and felt it more then I usually do. "it never slowed down" is def false.

Not a troll or anything but...

Of course it does, it's "new", and that's the first "real fresh" content Stormblood has brought us until now.

Speak for yourself. Would gladly take the 3 dungeons per patch in ARR over the halved amount we're getting now if what we're getting in exchange is stuff like this.

I didn't like the place, I tried level a bit when I discovered that you need to party beggar and run around at the mercy of people who are at level 20 to get scraps of exp from fates. I don't like the kind of content that are made for a few, not for everyone. Its most likely they will change the mechanics of the place in future patches, guess its time to give the place a break until then. I don't pay subscription to get frustrated.

We mostly do Eureka because we don't want to be left behind, content-wise. Since it's also tied to relic, unless you raid savage, you don't have much of a choice.

I'd stay in there all day exploring if there were a reason to. One of the things I loved about POTD was the higher floors you got to, the better the rewards were. It just sucked that it took hours of time to get to that point with the exact same group. Perhaps Eureka could reward those scouts who brave the more dangerous areas by using potions and the like that give them certain effects like a sneak ability or greater evasion from monster attacks. The more they discover, the more their level increases.

At this point, I'd take just about anything over the mindless mash-fest that is the NM Pain Train.

Is it against the rules pay gil for levels in Eureka? I'm considering this.

Unless it involves them logging your character in to do it, I can't see how it would be illegal. It doesn't involve anything underhanded like property scalping.
