Graphics Updates?!?! :O

I'm not sure if anyone else noticed this as well, but the game seems to have been updated via "lighting" or perhaps texture reworks. Because the older areas via 2.0 look immensely fuller.

It seems every patch there are some minor changes, (sometimes larger) to the visuals in the game. Be it textures, or visual draw distance - accompanied by grander backgrounds to view. And it's one of those things that many don't tend to point out. But I personally LOOOOOOOOOVE when the dev's work extra to make my play experience more mmersive. The game will be live for many more years to come, and it's mind blowing everytime I log in thinking that it will continue to update and take my breath away.

Anyway, I'm just really passionate about the FFXIV team, they always do so much fantastic work, and it's the only MMORPG in the world to continue to surpass my wildest expectations. (now If we can just get rid of that 0.3 latency) *crosses fingers*

Either I'm blind or you magically run on a build from the future but I haven't seen any changes (running game with all settings maxed).

But I've got the same feeling that 2.0 area are "prettier" than before, but that's because HW/SB areas are less pretty. It seems that one price for bigger area was less density for details like grass, flower, etc. or something

Minor changes here and there.

The visuals seem to pop more, because I believe they changed the lighting in older areas, while refining some of the foliage / adding more of it.

Someone log in with DX11 mode recently?

The lighting and textures don't appear to have changed for me, but the game's two graphics modes do have some differences. Especially when going through the other graphics options.

I remember taking a bunch of pics of Wanderer's Palace back when DX11 was released because of how different the lightning looked, but I can't seem to find them. Pretty sure there has been nothing after that.

I think it's probably because
a) The older areas had slight tweaks to things like lighting, as well as when we went from DX9 to DX11
and b) they don't put nearly as much effort into fine detail as they used to in 2.0, making the newer areas fairly lackluster in comparison. You can see that much in the gear they release nowadays- they don't give two sh**s about clipping anymore, and you'd notice if you played a race with a tail, they don't bother adjusting armor to fit around them anymore and just let them clip through the default appearance.

I miss having holes and little special pieces for tails... I guess it's not worth the effort if it's only needed for two races out of six, but still. It was a nice touch. I feel pretty sad that I can't justify my tail clipping through one of the many robes, butt capes, and long shirts any more.

You know really sucks about this? It only counts for Miqo'te. Au Ra wearing the same outfits are given the Hyur model because they couldn't be bothered to associate the Miqo'te clothing models with the Au Ra. So it's literally just for one race.

I agree Hestzhyen, nobody wants to hear it, but there was ALLOT of really good stuff from 1.0. Mainly in challenge and the feeling of character progression and how lively the world felt. Also everything felt really tangible. But I feel we are slowly returning to those immersive emotions.

Because Au Ra was released after they stopped trying. Yet another example to drive my point home.
I'm convinced the devs just don't care anymore, at least not nearly as much as they used to. They aren't even trying to be creative or innovative at this point. Everything nowadays is recycled from somewhere. Be it re-colored gear designs or re-colored Diadems.

I don't think there's been a change. I also cannot fathom why the development team would introduce any sort of noticeable graphics update without advertising its presence, just as they did with the DX11 mode.
