I've had items up for weeks at STUPID low prices and nothing ever sells... I can't understand why, like I have a bone harpoon up for 1K, a Ash mask for 500G, am I selling things wrong? Do I have to do something first? I'm confused...

It's just simple supply and demand. Likely a lot of players have already maxed most DoW/DoM, and so it may not be an item anyone even looks for at the moment. From what I hear Fabul also has a pretty low population, which could also be a factor.
Your best bet to move items fast is to sell materials & materia. If you want to make money from the markets, I wouldn't make gear to sell to the broke battle classes-only players, I'd create or farm mats for the crafters, as they have the deepest pockets & quickest spending habits. :)
this is the reason alot of servers have issues when someone goes looking for items. i hardly ever put a piece of finished gear up for sale anymore because they don't sell. at this point the best way i've found to sell items is selling materials themselves. they may sit there a while, but then you may sell multiple stacks at once.
Nobody wants to buy the items you are selling.
Try selling items people need.
What you're selling and where you're selling it.
If it's not in Ul'dah, it's harder to see.
And with the current search structure, most will not check the categories to which your item belongs (mask at least)
Oh you're so nice.
To the OP: Yeah man you seem like a relativity new player. I know they recommend joining a lowly populated server at the character select screen, but don't actually do that lol :p. If I were you I would just start over on a new server, picking from Lindblum / Besaid and up population wise. Half the servers are as dead as a doornail by MMO standards - as someone had mentioned most people have all classes maxed out, specifically on those types of servers. They're all about requiring you to have at least 3 or 4 things maxed out for end game content, or they won't wanna have anything to do with you.
The items you listed as trying to sell would be of more use in a more lively server, which have plenty of new players or at least people who want to level new things who haven't already. As someone mentioned only Materia would be in any kind of demand on your type of server. However, they'd be mostly interested in tiers III and up.
Like I said man I'd just restart in a more crowded environment - which maximizes Market profit and enjoyability. Whatever you do, don't pick my server o_O.
Thanks everyone for your input, DoctorMog.. Clearly the shittiest DOC I have ever seen.
Oh, Sorry to be the only one telling you the truth.
Next time I'll BS you and tell you to sell them in a different ward.
/tips hat
Peace out.
I'll tell you what I do, granted as mentioned by Bulwarkz this works best on a better populated server, try and look at the items that are empty for crafts you are leveling that have nice stats and people are inflating the prices. You're new enough so ask yourself, "What would I pay for this?" and go from there. Some items will also sell better to NPCs rather than PCs. A lot of the 50 crafters in my LS ... they have MILLIONS in gil by simply doing just that; selling to NPCs. I personally try to sell a few things I know lower level players want/need and sell for decent profit without hurting a new player's chance to afford more gear.
Good Luck! :D
That won't help your MW problem, but at this price, you should consider selling your stuff to NPC rather than bothering with your retainer
simply they dont want what you are selling, these are useless because ppl will run by it's level and above in VERY short time, so fast that they wont think of upgrading gears
if you want to sell gears, sell Crafting/Gathering Gears any level, and DoW/DoM HIGH level
other than that, just sell materials crafters use to grind.
tl;dr , what DoctorMog said
I think there's a big misunderstanding in this thread against DoctorMog. I don't believe Mog intended for her message to have any harsh or condescending connotations in it. From some of the reactions, it sounds like it was interpreted that way, but I believe her message was well-intended.
DoctorMog
"Nobody wants to buy the items you are selling.

Also, sell in Ul'dah.
Ya, short and to the point, I misunderstood, it's fine I'm new and have a lot of grinding to do, I'll do leves for money to buy over priced equipment on my dead server. xD
Two hours to level 20 eh? Maybe with help.. We did nothing but leve's and it took 6 hours or so of play time. >.> You have to remember we're talking 100% 1's, no extra skills to help us ect, unless you know something I don't?
FYI, if it's very low level gear there are NPCs that are in the adventurer's guilds and class guilds, among other places, that sell a lot of very affordable low level gear. That may be a reason why your stuff isn't selling, the NPCs are just very convenient (at the time they were released, there were new players coming in but there was a lot of trouble getting starter gear). This is only up to around the teens/20ish gear where the NPC prices start to get ridiculous and encourage players to buy from the markets or seek out crafters.
I've got 22 million gil, so here's how i do it.
Yes i know, i should SPEND it, and i will. I plan to spend it all actually,
but not just yet, anyways.
First, materia.
USUALLY, at least for a few items someone is selling rank 41-50 gear on mass.
Electrum Rings are a prime example. You can buy these super cheap.
Doesn't matter if you're level 1.
Buy a full set of Rank 41-50 gear cheap that is not a required rank item.
Grade III and IV Materia is what people pay the most for, so start making it.
Second, mass materials.
Fishing and Logging are nice, but they aren't as big as Mining.
People are buying Silver Ore, Mythril Ore, Cobalt Ore, and Iron Ore by the hundreds each day.
Whatever your level in Mining, you're good to go really from pretty early on with this.
Mine, sell.
Crafting Leves.
i appreciate the interest in buying materials to spam synth all day, but it's expensive.
You can go beyond the leve limit this way and i have done so on numerous occasions,
but the game is built primarily well on this level.
Crafting leves usually give you materials people are buying.
At Rank 30 leves and up i find each one is worth around 15-25K gil in materials each, and they are free to do.
It adds up fast.
But random obscure stuff at the moment, is not a big seller.
Hopefully it will be when this game gets going,
but today, not so much.
If you come to Rabanastre I could also get you and your GF those levels back very quickly
This is entertaining because last night was the first time I put my retainer into the wards (I recently picked up mining.)
Put all my silver/mythril ore into it at competing prices and woke up the next day with 900k in my retainer.
*shrugs*
i was a miner in FFXI too.Quote:

I'll always be a miner.
Ores are just good for so many things.
i was also VERY HAPPY to see that Darksteel ore exists in this game.
If you come to Istory you might get ball stomped, but I'm busy so I can't do it.
that goes back to the difference between a high pop and low pop server though. you may sell it overnight, but a smaller pop server may have that same stack sit there for weeks. it's not all about price and item. it also needs someone looking for the item when it is up at the cheapest price. more people on a server will always mean a higher chance that one person looking for what you are selling is there.
This, you can save alot of money buying the mats for gear, and finding a crafter, an example is dyed gear, people will charge upto 100k more for a dyed version of gear, and alot of the time you can dye your own gear for about 20k on top of the base version.
And for your exp make friends with a lvl 50 thm and get a pl.
And for your selling problem sell crafting mats, materia and high level gear.
Miner is a briliant way to make money, you will get a mass of copper ore at low level, they sell cheap but you get that many they can make you a decent amount if the demand is there from low level gsm, as you level up you will get raw gemstones at lvl 8 which are used to make gemstones and a bit later rings and earrings, and when silver ores come, you will be laughing because they can be used for gsm quite late I think.
Btw these miner things are around uldah, only place I have mined.
Welcome to a game where the majority of the population is at "end game".
It's sort of a cycle.. your stuff won't sell fast (or at all, not that the horrid search feature of the market wards isn't annoying enough.. can't i just see what my char can use instead of going in category after category... /rant).
Now you stop making gear as it doesn't sell. New players come and can't get gear they want (thank god for NPC's selling stuff, or i'd have nothing),
People complain to each other (newbies) about shortages, assume there is a market... make gear.. and we start again.
Reminds me of when i restarted on ffxi.
Sure there is a shortage of lowbie gear in the wards, but there is no shortage of mats or crafters that can make gear. I fail to see the problem. If you can't find gear, just buy the mats, it's cheaper that way anyhow.
OP, sell things people want and you should have no problem. Really, 500 gil? NPC that mask instead, or turn it into tier I materia and sell that for 1k.
This........
What don't you understand about people not wanting to buy gear that isn't good? If you want to sell things quick try craft materials, shards, crystals, or materia (the ones that are actually useful). Otherwise just put something up and hope for the best.
Also most likely slow due to not many people playing atm.
