I'd love to be able to do eureka more but having to go out to pick up my armour/weapons from the retainers is pretty annoying to do.
can we just have retainers in the duty?

There are a few things that should be addressed imo, but retainer bells are not one of them.
I thought about this too, but it probably isn't feasible within the system. Remember that you are inside an instance, it likely can't pull up the data for your retainer inventory without causing mass problems.
And no, that's not bad design, its resource efficient and under the assumption that retainer bells would never be used anywhere except the overworld (when they were implemented back in 2.1)
It can't even pull up the Chocobo Saddlebag, can't expect retainers any time soon...
Just retrieve your one piece of antiquated gear before going in. You need an obscene amount of crystals anyway; you're not going to be upgrading your entire outfit in one sitting.
Maybe they can do that when they scrap it all and rebuild it again from the ground up for the 4th time.
Honestly this was my first thought when I got in the zone... But there are other things that do need to be addressed first.
I think that making eureka instanced was the wrong idea to begin with, but probably it's the only way for them to handle a cross server zone without their servers exploding (which frankly they should update because too many things is beign closed off because of the system so ye come on)
Basically.
If they were going to create an open world map for it, you wouldn't have the cross-server features. They would even need to separate the map in instances, like they did at the begining of HW, SB and for Ixion in particular. The map would explode otherwise. But it also creates a lot of issues for pre-formed parties, landing in different instances and whatnot. Being instanced, it would block you from using the saddle bag and the retainers, so I don't think it's possible to have them.
what gear you need? I carry all my gear with me
To make Eureka gear you need to use the Antiquated 70 gear, which if you're an omni and have all battle classes to 70 is 105 pieces of gear ASIDE from whatever other gear you've gotten for your jobs since getting them to 70. That's an excessive amount of gear to carry with you if you want to carry it all, which you certainly don't have to.
It's more a convenience thing than anything else, so you can drop the Anemos gear you may get from lockboxes, or all the materia, into you're retainer. Or even just attending to your ventures or things you may be selling in the MB. You have to actively leave Eureka to do these things now or wait until you're done.
How about we focus on it being good first? Killing x mob until you’re bored out of your skull to kill mob y is seriously stupid and retainer bells won’t solve that.
You can que in and leave at will if you need to check on your relic, there is no penalty for coming and going.
1) Too much server strain, think about servers outside of primal.
2) Are you simply too bothered to leave the zone for 5-10 minutes to get whatever gear, or send your retainers back out? There's no penalty.
3) If anything, it could benefit from some sort of internal party finder so you don't have to rely on shouts so much but I don't know if that's feasible. I guess the external one is okay for now.
There may be no penalty, but having to leave and come back is an interruption of flow and, honestly, if you do leave the zone to do things the chances of you deciding to do something else and not go back increases. If the idea is to keep the zone populated you want to let people stay in as long as possible without interruption.
Think of it this way, you're at an amusement park and you can go in and out freely, but the park doesn't sell food so you need to leave the park and go to your car every time you're hungry. You may do that once and come back in, but every subsequent time you do that the likelihood of you going back into the park decreases. It's why amusement parks do absolutely everything they can to provide every service you could need to keep you from walking out of the park... because they know that once you're outside the gate, the less likely they are to get you back in.
Higher odds of them just adding an antiquated armor vendor so you can just outright buy the pieces while inside.
I agree, but because it is an instance that is unlikely to happen. We also can't access our chocobo bags there...
The technology isn't here yet.
In the end it all boils down to what has already been said: Most you can possibly hope to expect to achieve in a 3-hour time span is 5 armor pieces upgraded with 50 protean crystals each, and that's if you luck out and score 250 crystals in 3 hours. Good luck with that, before and possibly at Lv20.
Between the fact all you truly get in Eureka is Lockboxes, Protean Crystals, and Anemos Crystals as drops in Eureka at any given time (the former and latter from Notorious Monsters), you only need a few inventory slots to bring some Antiquated gear with you to upgrade in that run. You can swap them out before your next run to upgrade other pieces if need be.
