I'm laughing so hard, that didn't last long.
It needed to be done. Shouldn't have unlocked it to begin with tbh.
Press F to pay respects.
Glad I could get in and find an RP community when I could. Sucks for those who were planning a transfer there, however.
/presses F
I used what little timeframe they gave us to create a couple of alts, just in case I feel like leveling one up someday ^_^
I knew it wouldn't last.
*plays Taps on a bugle in respect*
Damn bots.
*sighs*
And now, to wait for the inevitable stampede of posts about unlocking it and how it isn't fair, and how locking Balmung is ruining the RP community...
*grabs popcorn* Wanna share with me?
I'm laughing but also slightly crying because just today my chara's "late husband" wanted to maybe transfer back. WELP. Guess that plot's not happening
XD Glad I snuck an alt in there while I could, then. Dunno when I'll get around to leveling him, but at least I've got the option now.
Zalera will likely see a huge surge in players, then. It's the smallest NA server and has hundreds of free houses - so much like what happened with Mateus, I'm betting on wayward role-players moving there to set up another community.
Wonder how long until people start leaving again because it feels like it's "dying" all over again? how long until it's literally just all dead FCs and rp alts.
Never understood the reason why alts by a current player on the server aren't allowed. Only one alt/character can log in at a time and we do pay extra for alt creation options each month. I guess the character creation process isn't that sophisticated and they have to lock everyone.
That's the reason Balmung got locked again. Each alt that enters the server regardless of where the creator is from is considered "+1" to it's grand population. For every alt that someone within got onto the server, is an added additional "+1" to it's total server population. This means that a single service account can make up a total of plus eight of the population. For every player that took advantage of the situation and created alts, that made Balmung's total population sky rocket. This made Balmung more congested than it originally was having already been the most population server in the game, is now even bigger since players felt they needed more alts on the server.
In a sense they have no reason to do so BECAUSE those servers are low pop. Much less revenue potential there, no? Now don't get me wrong, I'm not arguing against Balmung being one of the more populated servers, maybe still the most populated even without the bots, but we have a LOT of bots on Balmung right now, so the question is are there enough bots to have tipped the scale and get us locked again, where without them we might've been able to go on for another patch or two. They certainly didn't help any, that's for sure.
The irony being all those alts players created while they could boosted the perceived population, while the actual population may not have significantly changed. GG, Balmung, for facilitating your own perception of a "dead" server.

1500 people transferred to balmung after it was unlocked, in just 20 days.
Very happy I managed to sneak on before it got locked.

This is actually a good point. BoTs and Gil spammers are going to concentrate where the populations are highest and work down..that is just strategy. You put more resources into the busy areas. Maybe this will cause SE to implement other ways to report said bots, and actually DO something about them.......then again, maybe not. Suppose time will tell. That was a fast as fack relock though.
Surprised it was open as long as it was, to be completely honest. Glad I got a full roster of alts just in case I need them for anything.
Considering over 1500 people transferred over in under 20 days which equals to about 30k or more for SE. I would say they might keep this cycle up. Encouraging people to move out each expansion with free transfers and bonuses. Then open the server back up and cash in again.
It lasted a lot longer than I thought it would to be honest.
It was a good run while it lasted and it most certainly lasted longer than I thought it would. It was by far a fair amount of time for those who truly wanted to get in.
It looks like Balmung's gain was ~6k people in 20 days and ~1,500 of those were paid transfers in.
That is a LOT of people. That's almost an entire small server's worth of active population in under a month, so anyone who claims Balmung is dying, dead or anything of the like is fooling nobody but themselves.
All of my friends who wanted in (either to come back or those who never got the chance before) managed to transfer in from other servers (Zalera, Mateus, etc) so I'm happy as can be!
Looking at the census, Balmung actually has one of the lowest total number of characters created, we just happen to have the largest active playerbase https://ffxivcensus.com/
I could obviously be very wrong, but looking at the census, it doesn't appear that the total number of created characters is really that much of a concern. Even if a person has 8 characters on a single world (on one account), they can still only log in one at a time.
