Crp don't make any sense

Was just looking at the lumber recipes in Crp and realized it takes 4 "logs" to make 1 lumber. Now I know something about Crp in real life and pretty sure 1 log can make at least 2 lumber (depending on size of log). SE please fix these wrong quantities.

Honestly you are doing some great work here, but you should not stop compile a comprehensive list of every recipe that needs readjusting. These quantity inaccuracies must not be allowed to go unnoticed any longer.

Yeah and it needs 3 Raw-Stones to make one cut one.
Way more Vlies than it would actually need to make one yarn.
And ores are probably somewhat off aswell.
Looking at my current cooking, I need 3 loquats to make 3 bottles of juice - when in realty I probably wouldnt even get half a glass out of them.

Classic case of "gameplay over realism". If it helps your headcannon just pretend that you're always sawing 3 practice-pieces that your character throws out before the final, foruth attempt.

Dont do the Ixal or Moogle crafting quests if 4 logs for one lumber makes your mind hurt. For those quests allow you to saute hull interior components and such.

And this is why I use specific crafters for the beast tribe crafts - blacksmith for the Ixal quests, carpenter for the Moogles. (Then just switch to whatever needs EXP when it's hand-in time.) Also alchemist for crafting dyes.

On the flipside of the bizarre ingredient requirements, the Jacko'lantern recipe calls for one pumpkin and produces three.

Well the sims is still a game after all.
I can't imagine building a pool, inviting people in and then remove all the ladders so they can't get out and drown, or putting a pile of babies in a room and then remove the door so nobody can get in and they die.

Considering the same term for crafting from FFXI was retained here in FFXIV as well (Synthesis), which the FFXI specifically mentioned was not actually crafting something with your hands, but using crystals and a strong will to effectively transform the raw materials into the desired item magically, I'm liable to regard the same applies here, despite the use of tools like a saw (maybe the saw is used like a CNJ/WHM uses a wooden staff, as a conduit to direct the flow of aether in the process) - you're not actually physically making something with your hands, you're using the aether contained in crystals to transmute the raw materials into the desired item, with the tool directing the aether to do so.

In particular, Minfilia in FFXIV 1.0 mentioned that elemental crystals were lore wise a required component of item synthesis (so much so an entire crystal trade with the beastmen was necessary to procure those at the time rare crystals in order to keep the in-universe Eorzean economy afloat, I believe this theory is probably correct. So why does that then mean crafting requires ridiculous amounts of raw materials? Maybe the synthesis process has to consume a large amount of matter to create a 'smaller' item (rather like in real life physics with atomic fission where the difference between splitting an atom into two smaller atoms is given off as energy, maybe the excess matter is consumed as aether as part of the process.

Maybe I'm overthinking this though. ;)

I once watched something on tv... i think it was a documentary. Bugs Bunny might have been the host. Anyway, they took a whole tree and whittled it down to a single toothpick. If it takes a whole tree to get one toothpick, then my carpenter must be really good to get an entire piece of lumber from only 4 trees.

There actually is a reason for this (amusing thread responses notwithstanding). In 1.0, one log made 4 lumber (or I think 3 planks, or some amount of wood chips). Across the board, components were made in much larger quantities than they are now. However, each craft also had many sub-crafts. When they revised the crafting system to remove the sub-crafts, they changed the component crafts to make less materials so the total number of crafts would be the same. That's how you got 1 log for 1 lumber in ARR.

Then in HW, they decided being able to gather materials in a reasonable amount of time was boring, and to arbitrarily triple all component requirements to make sure no one actually had fun crafting anymore. And thus you need 3 logs for one lumber. See? It makes perfect sense!
