Glamour plates can't be applied in many places... and that's Ok... but maybe at least in sanctuaries? I mean... there are literal changing rooms in Camp Bronze Lake and you should be able to change... in them... imo. IJS.

Server limitations. If they allowed people to change plates in both sanctuaries AND inn rooms the server hamsters would keel over and die.
I thought you could apply plates anywhere. Just not adjust them.
Sanctuaries aren't all in their own instance. I guess the present limitation means only zones that are just sanctuaries (Ul'dah, Rhalgr's Reach, housing districts, etc) are where you can change them.
I can deal with that tbh. What really annoys me is no crafting in inn rooms. I have to go out, loading screen, craft dye, go back in, loading screen, go to the glam dresser...it's very tedious.
Basically the rule for whether you can apply glamour plates or not is, are you on a map that has any enemies in it? That's why capital cities and the Gold Saucer are fine, but but Revenant's Toll isn't because it's part of the Mor Dhona map. If the Bronze Lake changerooms took you to a separate instanced room like an inn, you'd probably be able to use them, but you're still in Upper La Noscea so you can't.
The booking part is so there's not other groups outside, to prevent people from doing it right as maint starts, and so other people know when to show up.
They're both the same kind of instances. You can enter as DoL/Doh, you can't teleport inside of them, and they both spit you out at a specific part of a map when you leave. The wedding one just doesn't have a duty confirm screen.
It's not a big deal just something I noticed while being bored out of my mind waiting for tournament matches.
For now this isn't a big deal.
The amount of plates and item slots are a big deal though.
We need way more than that.
And it's not like you apply a plate every single moment so the available places to use them is not a big problem right now.
They said they can only work on one thing at a time in this regard (more plate swapping locations, or more plates/item slots) and personally I think more plates and item slots is vastly more important.
Being able to edit them at the summon bell would be a nice convenience.
I can't imagine glamour plates causing more server stress than communicating with a retainer.
It is made like this because in old fashioned way if you were in combat you wouldnt be able to change any glamour during it.
The plate system is based around the old system, it works exactly the same way replacing glamour for certain items, but instead it doesnt cost anything to do it.
I think they make it available in cities because they want to prevent spagetti code to crack up in certain scenarios, lets be honest the game engine of this game is really really old and may just stop working at some point if given some factors in.
Imagine if someone would want to change his look in the middle of dungeon and everyone would get a debug info from the game, pc could handle it but console would go absolute nuts restarting the system.
The glamour plates work using the old system and simply applying all glamours at once without prisms. I suspect they COULD allow them to be applied anywhere just like the regular glamour system but they've chosen to be cautious and see how the player base uses them, as applying one glamour at a time using a prism each time is likely not spammed a lot but with no cost and glamouring a number of items all at once, spamming glamour plates is a potential risk to server stability.
The fact that they're increasing only one thing at a time (in this case the number of plates over the number of locations plates can be applied) suggests to me that they're being cautious with how much they expand it and when. They'll probably do it little by little to ensure everything continues to run smoothly. I still wish they'd just let you take things back out, though. That's all that's preventing me from fully using it at the moment.
You can really see with recent implementation of certain "work arounds" for inventory and glamour, that this game still runs on 1.0 spaghetterrible code.
What are you talking about OP? I apply the plates all the time in a Sanctuary Area.
